These days we are not getting any surprise flops, all big budget movies that are targeted at masses are working well. Chahey woh Salman ki movie ho, aamir ki movie ho, ajay's or akki's or srk's movie. Unless someone tries something really risky with a big budget like srk tried ra.one..all these stars that i have mentioned have their fan base which turns up to watch their movies.

It is still a means of marketing a films, except in this case it uses alternative user/audience driven channels rather than traditional channels.

No marketing would mean a black void. Absolutely no word at all. Not even a slip that Salman Khan will be starring in a movie. Not even a whisper on the movie going in production. No marketing would mean that even on the release date, there will be no posters, billboards or words telling anyone that a Salman starrer is playing in the theaters. Perfect complete oblivion.

I dare any movie to make money without marketing. Jeez people, marketing strategy by the name of no marketing would still be marketing strategy.

WORD. Its extremely difficult to sell ANY product with absolutely no marketing. Forget Salman, even Rajnikant can't sell a film with no marketing at all. 😆
If I go to the theater, I see Ek Tha Tiger playing..and it hasn't been marketed at ALL then I have absolutely NO clue whatsoever about the film like you said. No inkling about the star cast, the makers, the music, anything at all. I'd have to be very brave or a complete idiot to spend my hard earned money on such a product. 😆
So YES. ETT does need to be marketed, but it doesn't need to be excessively marketed and shoved down our throats.

I think Salmans movies sell on its own, body guard was promoted on two weeks prior to release, and than Salman had to goto the states to have a surgery still the movie rocked with highest 1st day in 2011.
But proper promotion will help sky rocket the numbers esp since goal is to beat 3 idiots record, and entice non Salman supporters to see the movie. otherwise, no it does not need huge promotions.
anyways SaL-KaT rocks and Ek Tha tiger rocks😊👏

But I agree ETT needs some kind of promotion. You cannot release the movie without any marketing.

Posters and hoardings were a huge way of promoting movies back in the day. Newspapers, radio ads heavily advertised films. So people knew exactly what they were going into. Big stars like Amitabh Bacchan, Rajesh Khana were prominently displayed on posters and radio ads would go "dekhiye amitabh bacchan ko naya andaaz mei blah blah blah blah blah".

The means of advertising have just changed over generation. Television came, they used television. Internet came, they used internet. Mobile came, they used mobile. Now with social media many movies actually have the strategy to not promote but go generate social media buzz.

Reminds me of Bachchans strategy to keep themselves in the news. 😆

We kinda had such a movie doing well recently under almost senior circumstances ie Paan Singh Tomar.

On topic I think ETT has got good buzz and it can create break records for sure with a little marketing. They need not overdo it and make us want to get over with the movie release.

Salman has never been a big media wh**e like Aamir and SRK anyways. He's never aggressively promoted his movie. He'll do the usual. 2-3 Interviews, couple of tv appearances, a radio interview. No All India trip like Aamir, no tv appearance on every tv show like SRK. Millions of PR articles. Nothing wrong with it, just not Sallu.

YRF on the other hand is going all out. They're the best marketing studio in the Industry and are going to turn it up a notch for ETT. Its going to be everywhere, all the time.

As for the question. No, ETT doesn't need 10-15 Cr Marketing. Salman's a brand, Katrina's a brand and YRF is a brand. Plus the TV channels are going to go crazy speculating about the film.

While I agree that Salman hasnt been a media wh**e...have you missed out the promotions for Dabangg, Ready and Bodyguard. He did all of that in bold.

Their is no film can make arecord without apromotion or in other words marketing .Salman is N1 right now thats clear but like always the media try to overhyped everything .The first teaser for the film is one of the marketing step .Even the still on the set is amarketing and promotion strategy .Even if the article try to talk about the future step we are in bollywood so people are waiting for song promo may be more than the trailer it self so if you sont even release asong then you will not have half of the people to watch the film and at the end every single article on the net is apromotion strategy so the idea itself make no sense at all .
