I never thought the profession was being vilified...wrong doings were shown and good stuff were shown...

System changes will happen if cases like these are shown and more people are aware...people will demand such things from the politicians and policy makers! Just knowing is not enough...you have to be moved enough to demand a change...I hope SMJ manages to move people into action!

i'm sure he did not mean to vilify the profession... but even just looking at this thread among others, people are cursing the whole medical profession... that is not of course, everyone...
you have to look at everyone's perspectives... the problem is, not everyone does that...
i hope they can change the system... but system can't change with one episode... or people getting flared up temporarily... someone needs to take the responsibility and keep at it... until that is done, thse are temporary things... similar to people going on rallys and when the whole thing calms down, they are nowhere to be seen...

society of course needs to change. but change happens slowly. it took many years of campaigning to curb smoking...it still is an ongoing process...policies have only recently started to take effect! think about it...when anti smoking campaigns started the nicotine producers paid researchers/doctors to say it's good for health! LOL! smokers still complain that their rights are being violated! i just hope such a show will make people wake up and demand change! there should be follow up to these issues...otherwise it will all be forgotten by the next month and things will go back where it was! This show hopefully will be a catalyst!

true. so i hope in the next election, people ask their politicians what they plan to do about healthcare! what changes do they plan to make! it's not just about doctors...the issue should be about healthcare system in it's entirety!

perhaps, aamir should have stated the stats as well... isn't that what the association is accusing him of...?
on one hand, he says these things happen... yes they do (don't see anyone denying that point)... however, portraying a picture that is mostly skewed with a few handful of doctors who really care about their patients is not the correct picture...
yes there are cases like this... but there are many more cases about the good that is associated as well... in India, most of the doctors are required to serve in underserved areas... there are many such examples... just because there are a few rotten eggs, doesn't mean the whole basket is rotten... and your very last comment implies otherwise, which is the same thing that people are complaining that aamir's show implied... which he himself claims is not true...
it's all about how the picture is presented... as i said.. many people have a tendency to go into the negatives only...

Couldn't agree with you more!
The reason most of the medical fraternity seems to be angry with Aamir is cos they felt the episode made it look like the whole profession is bad (This is a point of debate though). The response in this thread- about people thinking that only 10/100,000 doctors care about a life- explain it well.
@red: In India, there is a bond in many states that medical students have to work in rural areas for 2 years after their graduation. They work hard in places where the govt. does not even provide basic facilities or even medicines. No wonder many of them felt enraged.
At the end of the day the truth remains the same however. Jab apna hi sikka khota hai (doctors doing malpractice) toh fir dusre ki galti kahan tak nikal sakte hain? :(

i hope so too... it's just that aamir's record in such matters is what tends to put me off... and not just aamir, even amit ji has done the same... why do celebs take up a cause when they think they'll get some benefit from it or portray themselves in good light, but then disappear when it's time to actually do something about it...? 😕
LOL... those smokers need to see videos of what happens with second hand smoke... we still have certain celebs who smoke in the faces of people, yet all the laws can do is serve them with a 100 rupees fine... ajay, srk are well known for this... i hope they make the rules more strict than just minor fines, which will deter these people from smoking in public places...
unless and until the laws change or the policies change, it's all talk... the key is to take all this talk and translate it into something more meaningful...!

^the celebs need to pick one/two topics and keep at it. i agree most of them just talk about things show their faces do some pr and talk some talk and then go back to their usual!

seems like next week's topic will be about becoming a bollywood heroe! i am looking fwd to that...

The people asking for an apology..have they even seen the episode? It was hardly sensational and highlighted some good work done by doctors like one doc prescribing generic meds and Dr. Devi Shetty running an insurance for the poor, funded by the poor. Anyways its good for a change Aamir has refused to apologize for now. Not sure how long this stance will continue though given his history.

See, the thing is, the poor are already down asit is. They feel lonely. So when u tell them the docs are frauds, theyre bound to panic. Who can they trust? Perhaps what amir should or shouldve done is, just said that there are "some" docs who practice unethically but not all are like that so dont lose faith.

He wouldnt have offended anyone andhe wouldve exposed them as well.

Maybe heshoud concentrate on educating the people as to what their rights are so theres more transparency between the docs and patients.
