Amitabh Bachchan Saturday expressed happiness at the recent nomination of actress Rekha and cricket legend Sachin Tendulakar to the Rajya Sabha, while Sanjay Dutt was unhappy with Sachin becoming a parliamentarian.

"In each session of parliament, the president nominates few set of people for the Rajya Sabha from the fields of art, cinema etc. It is a very honourable position. Sunil Dutt's wife Nargis was also nominated. Whoever are nominated for this (Rajya Sabha) are deserving people," Amitabh told reporters at a press conference here.

Asked if being a Rajya Sabha member puts a burden on cricket and film personalities, he said: "It is their personal decision. Leave it to them."

Meanwhile, Dutt, who terms himself to be a big fan of Tendulkar, is unhappy with him being a member of the Rajya Sabha.

"It is an honour to be in the Rajya sabha. I am a fan of Sachin. He is the pride and jewel of India. But, I am not happy that he is a Rajya Sabha member. He should have been the way he is," he said.

i agree with Sanjay...why these people need to be taken to the parliament...sachin should have said no right away...stay from the dirty parliament which is responsible for all the destruction happening in the country.

^^^I disagree...despite all the corruption the Parliament is at the very heart of the Indian democracy. Its an honor to be a member of the house. If Sachin wishes to he can make a difference to society by being an MP. Much better than dancing with semi naked women to titillate the audience.

I am not happy about my daughter joining films.
I am not happy with Madhuri leaving kids back and doing a show here.

this will be the last thing he will think abt...he or anybody ...nobody has the time for today to make a change...if anna couldn't do anything what would sachin do...he should better concerntrate on his innings where he belongs to.

also lots of people are appealing to sachin not to go for it...twitter facebook there are so many voices...i can understand they won't want their fav legend to step in dirty pond of politics and i agree

The ONLY reason he has been taken is bcoz Congress is going down the pits and their image is just getting tarnished more and more with each passing day. They think this move might help them bcoz obviously, who in India doesn't like Sachin? And truly, MOST people don't want Sachin to join. As Sachin also said, the reason he's taken it is bcoz he he said something along the lines that the Press nominated him, and if he refused, ppl would be like he refused such an honour.

Oh and erm, what about Sanjay bhai? He himself is in Congress. Left Samajwadi and joined Congress. Including his sister too. Whats he unhappy about? He himself hasn't kept to just acting so...??
