Did Karishma and Kapoor surname MAKE Kareena?

For anyone wanting to make it in Bollywood the first break is very important. Sometimes despite being star kids people might not get the right break. Not getting the right break means more struggle to get noticed and be taken seriously as an actor and star. One of the examples of a wrong start was Karishma Kapoor. She made a lot of wrong choices initially. He manly looks didnt help either and she was ridiculed for them. But she learnt from her mistakes and managed to become a top actress after years of struggle. She not only was taken seriously as an actress but praised for the way she reinvented her looks.
When Kareena got into the industry she had it relatively easy. She had her sister to tell her the tricks of the trade when it came to presenting herself. Karishma's proximity with the Bachchans helped Kareena bag a coveted break opposite Abhishek despite Kareena and Babita getting lot of bad press due giving trouble to the Roshans. Even Randhir at that point had agreed that Babita-Kareena were in the wrong in their behavior with the Roshan. Yet everything was ignored as she was the then queen bee Karishma's sister and a Kapoor child.
Soon after that came various reports of Kareena's arrogance, brashness and bad behavior. It was still tolerated as Kareena was expected to be the next queen bee like her sister. But big films started flopping like Yadein, MPKDH. Kareena also had started rubbing off people in the wrong way with her media interviews. She made a huge mistake by going against KJo who ensured she got no work with his friends. Kareena found herself out of work and she was soon overtaken by Rani, Preity, Aishwarya. Kareena gave defiant interviews that she can still at home and still be a top star.
Then Kareena changed her tactic. She grovelled to people she had pissed off and got work with them and she once again started getting work from KJo and his friends. JWM's success helped too. So what really pulled her out of her bad phase? Her Kapoor surname and impeccable pedigree? Is the industry more ready to forgive and forget someone whom they have seen grown up? Would Kareena have been able to achieve what she has without Karishma's help initially and the Kapoor surname later on? Without the Kapoor surname would she have been forgotten like say Preity Zinta has been?

Karisma also has the Kapoor surname, but I dont see audiences or the industry being any kinder to her with her comeback.

Karisma, WITH HER KAPOOR TAG, is given what? A trashy Dangerous Ishq?

@Desu - Weren't Mads and Kajol at the top of their game when they left? and gave hits even after being married? May be that made it easier to make a comeback (not that they were ever on a loonnng break like Karishma was..and Madhuri's return to Mumbai doesn't seem to be all that smooth 😕)

Yes, the Kapoor tag did help her a lot in her initial years...Without her 'kapoor' surname she would have easily been lost in the crowd then.

But having said that, she is at top now because of her work...the bachchan surname didnt benefit Abhishekh mainly because he can't act!

I second that. Pedigree and surnames can only give you a platform - ultimately its your caliber , luck and hardwork that sustains you.Kareena has been no different in that department. Lineage gave her platforms and contacts but its her talent and perseverance that finally made her a superstar.

But you said industry is willing to forgive, forget, help out coz of nametag right? So it doesnt matter what shape Karisma's career was in when she took a break. Nametag should kick in right about now and give her a better comeback film. But I guess not eh? There's more to it than that. No matter how much Abhishek flaunts his Bachan tag, he cant make his films hits. Audiences arent gonna watch him coz of that last name, and producers arent clamouring to sign him on coz of it either.

The point is, Kareena is here becuase of a combination of things.

Yes, her nametag got her the break and first few films, so in that sense, you can say it helped,

BUT, it was more than this that kept Kareena on the radar.

Her controvertial offscreen personality kept her in news, her unconventinoal beauty set her apart, and for some bizzare reason, flops never really affected her.

There was never really a point when she was completely out of work. Something or the other was in her lap.

When big production houses abandoned her, she made do with offbeat films liek Chameli, Yuva, Dev, etc. Then got back to the big league with Jab We Met.

@DG: Coming to Abhishek Bachchan do you honestly think anything else apart from surname helps him still get films? I mean he is apparently busy with Bol Bachchan and then he has Dostana, D3 coming up. These are high profile projects. There might be others unannounced or small projects.

I actually find him to be a better actor than Hrithik, lol.
