Babil Khan is winning hearts with his performance in the cyber-thriller Logout, but it’s not just his acting that’s creating buzz. The young actor has made headlines for revealing that he plans to drop his surname “Khan” in the future—taking inspiration from his late father, the legendary Irrfan.
In a recent interview with Filmfare, Babil opened up about his decision. Speaking about his family’s royal roots, he jokingly said, “I’m a prince!" But soon, he shifted the tone and explained how his grandfather had left behind that aristocratic life. He added that his father, too, eventually stopped using the surname “Khan” in his professional life.
Taking the same path, Babil said that one day, he would like to let go of the “Khan” surname. “The lineage makes you a part of this conformity. It doesn’t let you get to your individuality… To let your individuality shine, you have to let go of your lineage,” he shared honestly.
However, Babil made it clear that this decision is not meant to be seen as a bold statement or rebellion. “It’s not some agenda,” he clarified. “It’s just about being true to who I am.”
Babil has always spoken about his deep bond with his father. On social media, he regularly posts emotional messages for him. In one such post, he wrote, “You taught me to be a warrior, but engage with love and kindness. You don’t have fans—you have a family. And I promise you, Baba, I will fight for our people and our family till you call upon me."
Meanwhile, his latest film Logout is streaming on ZEE5. Babil plays Pratyush Dua, a social media influencer who loses his phone, leading to a chain of events that force him to rethink his digital fame. The film explores the dark side of online validation and is directed by Amit Golani, with a strong team behind it including Biswapati Sarkar and Sameer Saxena.
With his career on the rise and thoughtful decisions guiding his journey, Babil is slowly but surely stepping into his own identity—not as someone’s son, but simply as himself. Just Babil.
