Mahrashtra borders Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. If someone called it South India I wouldn't laugh. But North is laughable.

If i remember my elementary school geography lessons correctly, Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat and Rajasthan are considered West India. Ofcourse the words East India and West India are not commonly used like North India or South India.

That is not what any of us were implying. Just that it's not North.

Some of Bollywood's prettiest, most popular and successful actresses have all been from South...or in anycase are South-indians, even if born and brought up in the North or Mumbai. Vyjayantimala, Waheeda Rehman, Hema Malini, Rekha, Sridevi, Jayaprada, Meenakshi Sheshadiri, Shilpa Shetty, Aishwarya Rai, Vidya Balan, Asin, Deepika Padukone and so many more (including the very pretty Aditi Rao Hydari, the latest addition from South).

But none of the men from down South have done well here...not even Rajnikanth!😆
I suppose its because South-indian women have a more pan-indian appeal to them...they have a classic beauty which works wonderfully for the audience in North...but South-indian men don't have that 'universal' look in them...so when a Madhavan palys a North-indian playboy character...it just doesn't convince! But get Hema Malini to play a 'Dhanno' from some rural North-indian town in UP and she will totally sell the idea to the audience!
South-indian hero's are very talented, but they are unfortunately held back by their diction and in the past, their moustaches and weight! Its only lately, that you have seriously good-looking men like Surya, Mahesh Babu, Prtihviraj, Arya and a couple of others from South, who have been bringing about some change, atleast in the way that they look.
Also, this might sound strange, but there is a lot of sexism involved here...the majority of audience that watches Bolly films is from the North..and they would rather see a film where the Hero is from the North (or from amongst them) and since the heroine for most part of Bolly films is nothing more than a pretty accessory, it doensn't really matter where she comes from! Like SRK, might be a muslim, but he is a 'North-indian' Muslim from Delhi and that matters...but Mammooty who is also a muslim (and about 1000 times more talented than SRK) would never click in Bolly, because he is in the end, a 'South-indian' from Kerala.
Similarly, a Hrithik Roshan would work beautifully in Bollywood, because he is a 'hatta-katta' punjabi puttar from Mumbai...but Surya (who has a better physique, better looks and infinitely more talent) would never work, because he is a pukka Chettiar lad from Chennai!
Well, atleast the girls from down South are a big hit (not just with the audience, but also with their co-stars😉) All of us South-indian's can take solace in that fact!😆

Sorry if I seemed confused or misspoke, but I didn't mean Fully geographically, I meant marathi = Maharashtra =where bollywood originates from. And Bollywood being Hindi language films are traditionally considered north Indian cinema.

Perhaps it is a generalization on my part but I was merely splitting India by north and south - so anything above the 4 southern states I referred to as north. I understand Maharashtra is more on the lines of central west India. And in regards to rajnikanth, south Indians definitely would consider Marathi speaking people to be north Indians.

nice game bipasha! and why did players flop again, im thinking who from the south was there in it?
As some1 said, JB flopped coz of bipasha, coz yes she cannot act but main thing she has lost it now, she doesnt pull crowds! and this can be proved by the fact that wearing a bikini and having a song named after her even couldnt help, it clearly means people dont want to see you in the same roles any more, get out of ur sexy avataar already, its been 10 yrs and thats all what every1 has seen, so nothing new left now!
by giving this statement she has indirectly made it clear that her movies are determined by the actors, she cant carry them off. Clearly if JB flopped coz of Madhvan then Bachna ae haseno was hit because of Ranbir and Dhoom 2 coz of hrithik! Im stating the obvious i knoww but im glad she even indirectly told what shez worth in her movies!

Maharashtra/Gujrat/Bengal/Assam/Orrisa cannot really be classified as typical North or South Indian. But Maharashtrian culture has lot of similarity with Andhra and Kannada cultures due to the proximity with these states.
