Katrina and Rani are on two very different boats. You can't draw any sort of comparisons between them.

but I don't think Production House is one of the criterion for people getting
interested in a movie, at least not the general, non-internet-browsing aam
junta. YRF never put much stock in the Khans. Since 2000 they have probably made
only 4-5 movies with the Big3.. Mohabatein, Fanaa, Chak De, Veer-Zara and
RNBDJ. A total of 5 movies in a 11 years. Rani was paired with small fries like
Saif, Shahid, AB jr. That's why her movies bombed and she went out of business.
Only recently YRF, to save their sinking ship, has decided to go the whole hog
and signed up the 4 most bankable stars of Bollywood for their upcoming movies.

Rani never had the kind of box-office clout
Katrina has and she never had the biggest heroes opposite her to make huge
hits. Katrina's net 3 movies would probably be all ATBBs and just reinforce her
reign at the being the box-office queen. I would think more Production houses
would be lining up to sign her after this.

And lastly, why would anyone let go off a movie opposite the reigning Khans to sign a Southie movie opposite Rajni. ASh did Robot and what exactly did she receive out of it?

Lol agree with most everything you said- but concerning Aish, did she not become the highest paid Indian actress because of endhiran?

what is the big deal abt rajneekanth even? His movies have only himself! what did aish receive from that movie apart from criticism which she pretty much does from all her movies! It was nothing good for her there

@ KShreya: I think only HumTum with Saif was a hit. Tara Rum Pum and TPTM were duds. I don't think anyone would have predicted that LCMD or DBH or TPTM (a Sound of Music wannabe 40 years too late) would ever set the box-office registers clinking. Rani made terrible choices and she suffered. Also her reputation of being Adi's GF scared off other Producers who probably might have signed her. Rani had a reputation of being rude and arrogant with most everyone, burnt her bridges with the Bachchans and SRK, never had any tract with Salman. Katrina, on the other hand, has great relations with everyone in the industry.I really don't see any similarity with Rani's and Katrina's career graph.

@Relda: I agree with CPR. Rani actually was cordial with all her costars. The only problem she ever had with a male costar was Vivek Oberoi. But he had a problem with most of BW so I dont think Rani can be singled out for it.

Coming to the topic Rani had given hits opposite newbie Vivek and typecast as second lead Saif at the peak of her career when she teamed up with YRF. Katrina definitely has better success record but Rani's wasnt bad either as lots of her films became surprise hits. Logically Rani should have been in the top 5 even today. She is almost the same as age Kareena and could even act. Plus she has all the right connections and friends in the right places. Yet she is nowhere near either of them. Whereas Kareena who hardly has had Yashraj films and films with the Khans after a long wait is still counted at the top. So though it was Rani who was making the right moves its Kareena who is still around. And now Katrina seems to be restricting herself to YRF/Dharma who appear to be giving her similar films.

No. Last time I checked, Katrina was still riding high on her blockbusters and mega-hits (I could be wrong as I don't keep a track of her filmography), which is precisely what she is here to do. Rani, on the other hand, was generally known as a moderately talented mainstream actress and recognized for her acting in commercial films (with a few exceptions), and her connections with the A-grade celebs helped. So when she stopped giving hits or good performances, and fizzled out of the public eye - people slowly lost interest in her. It's like, she'd nothing more to deliver - no hits, no acclaimed movie or performance, out of the public eye. She became history. Katrina is still the Box office queen so she is doing well for herself.

I don't really buy the luck vs. no luck argument. Rani dug her on grave when she refused The Namesake for KANK, or Bhool Bhulaiya for the same sati-savitri cardboard-cutout roles YRF had to offer. Some of her movie choices were awful and still to this day boggles my mind. How can prestigious actors like Rani and Saif do something like Thoda Pyar Thoda Nonsense is beyond me.

As for Kat, people definitely do like her for whatever reason it maybe. To be honest I am apathetic to her presence. Her movies don't interest me one bit and unless she does something like Rajneeti I wouldn't want to watch them. IMO, the Katrina fever will pass out soon too. Count another five or so years from now, her craze will pass out to someone new and 'hot'.

As for Rani's off-screen personality, we don't have any definitive proof, so you can choose to believe whatever floats your boat. I am generally a fan of Rani's acting, and I think she is one of the most manipulative actresses ever. IMO, she always out an act of being the ultra-innocent lady while in reality she was very manipulative and calculative. Most of the friendships she created with the A-stars . Katrina seems very calculative too but not as shrewd. In my opinion of course. 😆
