Film: Chup Chup Ke Location: Filmistan Studios, Goregoan Director: Priyadarshan Cast: Suniel Shetty, Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Neha Dhupia, Om Puri and Paresh Rawal We thought actors don't shoot on Sundays, but here were Shahid, Kareena and Neha Dhupia working overtime to complete the shooting of Priyadarshan's Chup Chup Ke. Unfortunately, a phone call received by Kareena, spoilt the mood on the sets. After speaking on her phone for a while, the actress appeared pretty upset and disappeared into her make-up van. Soon after, Shahid followed her in, and the two remained closetted inside for a long time. Kareena wasn't willing to talk to the press, although she did finally agree. But when we entered her make-up van, we could feel the tension in the air inside, with both Kareena and Shahid looking troubled. Personal problems apart, a fun song sequence was being picturised on the stars that day. Besides which they had to complete a couple of scenes too, this being the last day of the shoot. The lead actors had committed dates elsewhere, the next day onwards. The song, choreographed by Pony Verma, was set to a comic situation. A sozzled Shahid was dancing and singing atop Kareena and Neha's house. What surprises the two sisters, that's Kareena and Neha, in this scene is not his drunkenness the mere fact that he can sing a song, since through the film he had been posing as a mute person. Incidentally, the backdrop of the film is completely white. The entire set was white… the house, the well and the water tank. "In this scene, I get tired of playing pretending to be mute, so I get drunk, and break into a song," said Shahid. "Neha and I don't have much to do, we simply have to follow him around and gape at his antics," Kareena added. HAPPY-GO-LUCKY After Rani Mukherji in Black, Amisha in Teesri Aankh and Kajol in Fanaa, now it is Kareena Kapoor who plays a physically challenged girl in Chup Chup Ke. "Yes I play a speech-impaired girl in the film. I belong to a Gujarati family, so the advantage of my role is that I didn't have to learn to speak Gujarati for the film," says Kareena. "In fact, I will not have to do any dubbing for the film. Neha Dupia, who plays my sister, is my interpreter. This is the first time I am playing such a role." Aren't there too many films being made on similar themes, based on physically handicapped protagonists, nowadays? "Hey, mine is not an unhappy character," she says. "I play a happy girl. This is just a fun film and the situations are comic. Remember, this is Priyadarshan's film. I did not have to do much homework for it. Now, if it had been Vishal Bharadwaj making the film, I guess it would have been completely different." | |
