aksar the reel review

Ricky (Emraan Hashmi) is a photographer who is also known for his being a
casanova. He is heavily into debts and there seems to be no way out for him.
Rajveer Singh (Dino Morea) buys all his artistic photographs and bails Ricky
out of his desperate situation. One day Rajveer makes a deal with Ricky. He
promises to pay him a huge sum of money if Ricky can come to London and
seduce his wife Sheena (Udita Goswami). Rajveer says that he has an unhappy
marriage and needs an excuse to divorce her. Ricky agrees and even succeeds
in making Sheena fall in love with him. But there's a hitch. Sheena is not willing to give up her husband Rajveer. Rajveer falls in a fix. The situation worsens when Ricky gets murdered under mysterious circumstances.

Anant Mahadevan has done a decent job by etching the characters well whether it be Dino Morea as a rich unhappy married man or Emraan Hashmi a photographer who has practically lost everything in life or Udita Goswami as a bored housewife--all the three characters stand out. Also what makes the film worth watching partly are the locales in London. They have been beautifully captured by Mahadevan. The first half of the film is fast paced and slick. Mahadevan has added enough gloss to the story. But the climax is a let down. It only weakens the film and is a disappointment. At the end of it all it makes you wonder, "Where was the suspense?" The only thing noteworthy about the music of the film is the song Aaja aaja sung by Himesh Reshammiya.

Emraan Hashmi does what he is good at doing in all his films--being a casanova. Dino Morea does show promise as an actor. Udita plays her part well and certainly better then what she did in Zeher. But one wouldn't watch Aksar aksar (often).
