1. Over 1 Year's Massive Promotion

2. 30% Increase in Screens

3. Increased TICKET RATES

4. No Major Movie RELEASED along with Ra.One - No Competition

======== Lifetime Opportunity for any STAR with these combinations

1st day should have crossed 25 Crore, but it is below 21 Crore...

To be fair, the evening puja probably played a role here. Many ppl had to be at the prayers at the time instead of being free to go to the movies. Unlike Eid when the prayers are completed much earlier. The real test is the upcoming few days.

Nice to see you back btw.

First Day Record On For Ra.One Despite Diwali Puja - BoxOfficeIndia.Com

A BoxOffice Analysis -

Ra.One is set to release on Diwali and normally collections are hit by 25% plus as many families stay at home from around 3pm till 8pm for Diwali Puja but the buzz is so huge for the film that it could be a limited affect as many still venture out to see the magnum opus.

Last year Golmaal 3 was released on Diwali Puja and in Mumbai where there was biggest craze for the film as the first two Golmaal's had done best in Mumbai, it was not affected and collected what it would have on a normal day. In the South, the Diwali Puja affect is minimal as compared to the North.

Here with Ra.One the craze all over is more than the craze of Golmaal 3 in Mumbai circuit so the first day 20.60 crore nett record of Bodyguard may be beaten despite Diwali Puja as long as North is 20% lower on Diwali Puja and not the 50% plus that Golmaal 3 was.

It can be seen that Diwali Puja had hardly any affect in Mumbai and South as next day jumped 20-25% (normal holiday jump) in these places while at some other places the jumps were even over 100% where Diwali puja affected the film hugely.

Ra.One may well see a strong record or near record day one due to craze and 20-25% jump next day due to holiday and then word of mouth coming into play on Friday rather than the below par day one at many places and and 55% jump on day 2 which happened with Golmaal 3.

Ra.One vs. Bodyguard ' Explaining the Rs. 27 crore incremental

Expectedly, there has been enough speculation about what Ra.One's opening weekend will look like. Genuine predictions on the domestic box office have ranged from Rs. 70 cr to Rs. 140 cr (domestic nett, five-days, Hindi version). Our number, using Ormax Media's tool Moviescope, comes to Rs. 112 cr. Error margins tend to be about 10% in such predictions, which is this case means Rs. 11 cr!

Bodyguard, with a similar five-day weekend, netted Rs. 85 cr. So where will Ra.One get its incremental Rs. 27 cr from, assuming our prediction turns out to be true? From several components, listed below:

1. Rs. 10 cr incremental from a wider release - About 200 more cinemas than Bodyguard, and about four more shows per multiplex will give Ra.One an additional Rs. 10 cr, if everything else was the same.

2. Rs. 9 cr incremental from ticket prices increase ' Ticket prices are up by an average of about 5-10% across centers. Further, the 600-odd screens showing the film in 3D have another incremental of about 20% over the 2D prices. All this adds up to about Rs. 9 cr.

3. Rs. 6 cr from the festive season impact ' It's Diwali! The festive mood and holidays will make an additional impact. Bodyguard had one holiday in the form of Eid. Ra.One has the Diwali day, and then the ongoing extended festive weekend, with many holidays across the country, and many people taking the rest of the week off. Even after removing the 26% drop in the Wednesday collection because of Laxmi Puja, we still get a Rs. 6 cr incremental because of the festive impact.

4. Rs. 2 cr from the incremental Buzz impact ' Both Bodyguard & Ra.One have performed exceedingly well on Cinematix. However, Ra.One has the ever-so-slight edge, being a point or two ahead of Bodyguard. This should translate into an additional Rs. 2 cr.

So, these four add upto Rs. 27 cr. However, we have not accounted for the Word of Mouth (WOM) difference, as there is no way of knowing Ra.One's WOM till it releases. Bodyguard scored an average 54 on our WOM Index, which measures the post-release audience response to a film. If it scored 67 on WOM, like Ready did, Bodyguard would have netted another Rs. 6 cr, and touched about Rs. 91 cr.

Depending on how Ra.One is received, you can expect a 5-10 cr upside or downside on our prediction. One thing that will work in favor of Ra.One's WOM is that it is also coming in 3D. We have seen that 3D can give a much higher WOM than 2D for the same film. Now, this is an advantage Bodyguard didn't have.

Saw the film yesterday!

Felt like a slightly more polished version of Rajnikanth's Robot, minus the southern superstar's inexplicable charm which makes every ridiculous and over the top film of his work! (SRK could have made this thing work just like Rajnikant, had this film come out, say 5 years back! Somehow its very difficult to picture the aging superstar as the invincible superhero now!)
I personally found the movie unncessarily complicated, unwittingly hilarious, racist (South Indian's DO NOT have Afro-hairstyles and definitely do not speak hindi so badly!) slow (for a sci-fi genre) and displaying some of the worst acting I have seen in a long, long time!😕
But then, I am probably not the intended audience for the film, cause my son loved it to bits!😆 And so did most of the 'younger' audiences! (Tweens mainly) Most of the older audience was visibly cringing and laughing (at places where the film maker had hoped for the audience to be spell-bound, that is!)😆
Its a pretty brainless film but vaguely entertaining too...I would have written a more lengthy review...but frankly, it is not the kind of film that makes you ponder too much! You watch it, sort of enjoy it and then completely forget about it!
Or maybe not, cause my son insists on watching it again!😆
SRK was well...at his hamming best!😕
For some reason, I remembered his class act as a NASA scientist in Swades and almost felt like crying...where has that 'actor' gone?
PS: Arjun Rampal is turning out to be, probably, one of bolly's best character artist in recent times! He just devours everything in sight with his terrific screen-presence and personality everytime he comes on the screen! Kudos man!👏 Kareena looked like a thousand bucks in the film! Absolutely sensational, even if she had little to do! That kid was part irritating, part cute! Exactly what you would expect out of a kid, who has a father like SRK in the film!😆
PPS: In anycase, SRK must be lauded for daring to work with such a risky script, since as a rule, sci-fi has never done commercially well!

Ra.One: First Day Early Estimate

Thursday 27th October 2011 11.30 IST

Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Ra.One has collected around 14-15 crore nett on its first day as per early estimates. The collections are only for its Hindi version and regional version may have added around 1 crore nett.

It may turn out to be the second or third highest first day ever but around 30% less than the record of Bodyguard which released 2 months back comparing like and like and just its Hindi version.

It is a good collection considering Diwali Puja but even with huge the craze and hype, Diwali Puja affected it like any other film released over the years.

The collections fell from 1pm yesterday at most places and did not really recover with festivities on. South India has fared best comparatively while in North India the first day collections are lower than Ready and Yamla Pagla Deewana as well as Bodyguard for the films released in 2011.
