John Abraham FORCE is rocking masala film: Movie Review
[30 Sep 2011]

STARRING John Abraham, Genelia D'Souza,Vidyut Jamwal, Raj Babbar, Mohnish Bahl and others. DIRECTION Nishikant Kamat STORY The plot of the flick revolves around the character a senior Narcotics officer ACP Yashwardhan(John Abraham), who is ruthless towards criminals and believes in dealing with them through bullet. Yashwardhan thinks that sending the criminals to jail is simply a waste to time and energy.

However, Yashwardhan gives top priority to justice in his dealings though he never follows the rulebook. His working style is unorthodox, but brings in results for the department.

This time Yashwardhan is faced with a big narcotics offender Vishnu (Vidyut Jamwal) and his dreaded gang of goons who want to take revenge at all costs. Meanwhile, Maya (Genelia D'Souza) comes into the life of Yashwardhan and things begin to take a new turn.

Maya is a sophisticated girl and falls for Yashwardhan. Now, the brave officer has to make a choice to live a peaceful life with Maya or continue with his daredevilry ways of doing justice to criminals with bullet.

What happens to Yashwardhan and Maya and if they succeed in leading a peaceful life forms the rest of the film.

PERFORMANCE

John Abraham, the handsome hunk of bollywood who plays the part of ACP Yashwardhan, comes up with an outstanding performance in the film. His six- pack- abs and imposing persona on the celluloid makes him more believable in the character. Of course, the turning point for John Abraham into an action hero began with Yashraj Films' 'Dhoom', but it seems to have been completed with 'Force.'

John Abraham looks and behaves like a mature action hero in the film, especially in climax sequence when he faces Vidyut Jamwal. Then, the scene where he lifts the bike is sure to invite ceetees and applause from the masses.

Genelia D'Souza, the sensual bollywood babe who plays the gentle Maya in the film, provides a complete antidote to John Abraham's tough character. Her romantic sequences with John Abraham on the celluloid make for interesting viewing. The actress looks hot and the viewer will see her in a completely new avatar than her previous outings.

Vidyut Jamwal, the newcomer who enacts the part of antagonist Vishnu in the film, never allows John Abraham to dominate the proceedings and successfully holds his own. The guy has the potential and is likely to grow into one of the finest actors.

Raj Babbar, the senior actor of bollywood, has hardly anything to do in the flick. Similarly, Anaitha Nair, who had earlier proved her worth, does not get much scope in the flick. Mohnish Bahl and Sandhya Mridul enact their parts well. Mukesh Rishi goes about his role with consummate ease. Others provide able support to the main cast of the flick.

Director Nishikant Kamat is in his elements and has executed the project to perfection. Despite of the story being the same old vendetta and all that, Nishikant has made the project watchable through intricate handling of the subject in an interesting and mature way.

Nishikant shows his understanding of the craft by clever twists and turns in the flick as well seamless use of songs in the film. The second half of the flick is top notch and makes for any slackness in the first- half. The raw action in climax will certainly get a huge applause from the viewers.

Ayananka Bose's cinematography is top notch and will certainly help the flick at the box- office. Similar is the case with Harris Jayaraj's musical score which are melodious and already popular with the masses. Bosco-Caesar's choreography goes well with the genre of the flick. Other production values are also good.

STARDUST VERDICT

John Abraham has done superb action stunts and seems to have matured as an action hero with this film. John's chemistry with Genelia D'Souza is sizzling hot and the audience would love to see them. The second- half of the flick packs the punch and the raw action will keep the viewers hooked till the very end. A good fare.

After Ajay Devgn and Salman Khan, it is the turn of John Abraham. Yes! His latest movie Force, which has hit the screens today, is remake of Tamil hit movie Kaakha Kaakha, which starred Suriya and Jyothika. The film has heavily borrowed Masala elements from movies of 1970s and 80s. It is a treat for action lovers.

Force is an action-cum-love story and John Abraham's rocking performance is the major highlight of the movie. Romance, loads of action, treachery an revenge are other plus points of the movie. But it suffers from clichd and predictable plotline. Force might forcibly make you like it in some sequences.

Despite having some dragging moments, the first half of the film engages the audiences, but the real essence of Force comes in the second half. What make the movie work are its sharp and punch dialogues and real-raw action scenes. Director Nishikant Kamat has really managed to hold the attention of the viewers with his sound technical knowledge.

Yashvardhan (John Abraham) is a hard-headed senior narcotics officer, who always ensures that justice is served. In his mission to crack down on India's drug cartels, he encounters a ruthless enemy, who will stop at nothing until he gets his revenge for the damage done to his business by the narcotics team. Meanwhile, he falls in love with free-spirited Maya (Genelia), who forces him to choose between his professional life and her love life. What happens next will form the climax of the film.

John Abraham is a perfect choice for the male lead and he has delivered an outstanding performance. His chiseled body well suits the role of a young and self-confident Narcotics Officer. He rocks movie goers in action and dialogue delivery. Genelia has got lot of scope for performance in the film and she has used it to prove that she is not under-rated actress. The on-screen chemistry between John and Genelia is a treat. Vidyut Jammwal suits well for the villain role opposite John and has given a good performance. Others like Mohnish Bahl, Sandhya Mridul, Amit Gaurr, Kamlesh Sawant, Mukesh Rishi, Raj Babbar have done justice to their respective roles.

Force has superb production values and Allan Amin's choreographed stunts are the major attraction of them. Secondly, Harris Jayaraj's music is also the highlight of the movie and Nishikant has integrated the songs very well in it. Ayananka Bose's picturisation is a visual treat. Editing, art direction, costumes and the selection of the locations are also commendable.

In a nutshell, Force might be a remake movie, but it completely engages the audience with its story. It is really a treat for action lovers.

Force

Story: Supercop ACP Yashvardhan ( John Abraham) thinks his strength lies in the fact that he is a loner, hence he can go all out against the drug mafia with no fear. But things change when he falls in love with the vivacious Maya ( Genelia D'souza) in the middle of a tough assignment where he must contend with a fierce opponent ( Vidyut Jamwal), hungry for revenge. Will love become his weakness or can the tough cop carry on his mission, undeterred?

Movie Review: A remake of the 2003 Tamil blockbuster Kaakha Kaakha,Force is a heady cocktail of high powered action and breezy romance that ensure there's never a dull moment. Director Nishikant Kamat too goes the Rohit Shetty-Abhinav Kashyap (Singham-Dabangg) way and tries to create an old-fashioned action film which sticks to the tried-and-tested formula of pitching the hero against the villain in umpteen high testosterone sequences of pure mara-mari. And for punctuation, there are the romantic interludes where the macho superhero, awkward with emotions, tries his best to forge a strange new relationship which demands a totally new passion from him: one that has nothing to do with battering heads and smashing vehicles.

But hey, it's the age of serenading the vintage, isn't it and retro is truly in vogue. Also, the fact that Force showcases some superb craftsmanship, both in its action and emotional sequences and has a second half that literally hurtles at a frenetic pace, ensures that you never lose interest in the onscreen proceedings. Things to enjoy: oddballs John and Genelia trying to find a common meeting point, with Genelia openly declaring she wants to make love to the hunky cop, the cop quartet that tirelessly wages a war against the drug cartel, the fight sequences shot with art and finesse by Ayanankar Bose, the high emotional quotient in an out and out action film...And yes, how can we forget this: John Abraham's pure beefcake appeal.

Go for it, all you Gods of War enthusiasts.

September 30th, 2011 by Komal Nahta

John Abraham is a police officer working in the Narcotics Control Bureau. Love is not for him till Genelia D'souza comes into his life. And then his entire life changes. Read the review of Force to find out more.

Force Review

Business rating: 2.5/5 stars

Star cast: John Abraham, Genelia D'souza, Mohnish Bahl, Kamlesh Sawant, Vidyut Jammwal, Mukesh Rishi.

What's Good: The action and stunts; the songs; the acting.

What's Bad: The seemingly uni-dimensional nature of the film; absence of emotions and comedy; the sidelining of the romantic track.

Verdict: Force has taken a good start. Its action will see it sail through comfortably.

Loo break: Not really.

Watch or Not?: Watch it for the deadly stunts.

Fox Star Studios India Pvt. Ltd. and Sunshine Pictures Pvt. Ltd.'sForce (UA) is an action-romantic film. ACP Yashvardhan alias Yash (John Abraham) is a trusted police officer woking in the Narcotics Control Bureau. He and three of his colleagues – Atul Kalsekar (Mohnish Bahl), Mahesh Pandey (Amit Gaur) and Kamlesh (Kamlesh Sawant) – are out to track down India's drug cartels. While doing so, Yashvardhan encounters a ruthless enemy, Vishnu (Vidyut Jammwal), who will stop at nothing till he avenges the damage done to his business by the narcotics team. Yash thinks, marriage is not for him as his job is pretty risky. But Maya (Genelia D'souza) enters his life like a whiff of fresh air and pushes him to make a choice between the life he already knows and the life he could have with her. Yash takes Maya as his life partner but his life changes forever after that.

John Abraham is a trusted Narcotics Control Bureau officer who wants to track down India's drug cartels.

Force Review: Script Analysis

Remake of the Tamil blockbuster, Kaakha Kaakha, the film has an interesting story line about how love changes the life of a police officer living on the edge. Ritesh Shah's screenplay is fairly nice but the romantic scenes should've been more impactful because it is finally love that changes Yash's life. While the romance is fresh upto a point in the first half, it is relegated to the sidelines, especially in the post-interval portion. The tragic ending is also something the audience will not be happy about. It, in fact, leaves the viewers with a depressing feeling.

While the action scenes have been excellently handled, the excessive violence, blood and gore will put the ladies audience off. Young boys and men, of course, would approve of the raw action.

The unfortunate part of the screenplay is that the drama, although moving on two tracks (action and romance), seems to be moving on just one track – action. This makes the film a bit tedious for the viewers who don't like too much action.

Force Review: Star Performances

John Abraham does very well as the angry young man out to cleanse the country of the drug menace. He is suitably awkward in the romantic scenes. Genelia D'souza is cute and endearing but she gets limited scope. Her absence is more pronounced after interval. Vidyut Jammwal is excellent in stunts. He makes a praiseworthy debut. Raj Babbar hardly gets any worthwhile scene to enact. Mohnish Bahl is effective. Sandhya Mridul is natural to the core as Atul's wife, Swati. Kamlesh Sawant does a fine job as Kamlesh. His heavy Maharashtrian accent should've been taken care of. Amit Gaur is alright. Anahita Nair does a fair job. Mukesh Rishi is good in the role of Anna. Kiran Karmarkar makes his presence felt. Saksham and Ninad Kamat are okay as Bala and Vasu respectively.

Force Review: Direction & Music

Nishikant Kamat's direction is good but it would've been better had he balanced romance and action in a more mature fashion. He has unnecessarily made the film very serious and made it seem like a uni-dimensional account of the drug menace. Harris Jayaraj's music is melodious. Khwabon khwabon is tuneful and the best number. Main chali, Kaise kahoon and Dil ki hai tamanna are also appealing songs. Unfortunately, the songs have not become as popular as they are nice. Javed Akhtar's lyrics are appropriate. Song picturisations (Bosco-Caesar) needed to be better. Sameer Phaterpekar's background music is apt to the drama. Allan Amin's action and stunts are excellent. The stylised and raw action scenes will be loved by the masses and the youngsters. Ayananka Bose's cinematograohy is of a good standard. Editing (Aarif Shaikh) is crisp.

Force Review: Komal Nahta's Verdict

On the whole, Force will be liked by the youngsters, especially guys. In the final tally, it will prove to be an above-average fare, thanks to the impressive start all over.

Force Takes Good Opening Other Releases Dull

Friday 30th September 2011 13.00 IST

Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Force has taken a good 60% plus start at many places while other places were average. All in all its a good to decent start and it will be interesting to see what number the first day gives at it is a big release. Some centres were even 80% plus on the first show.

The other releases Hum Tum Aur Shabana and Sahib Biwi Aur Gangster had a poor 10-15% opening while collections of Chargesheet and Tere Mere Phere were very low at 5-10%.

Force has just wiped out the competition and leads the others by a huge distance and is the only one which really stands a chance to make an impact at the boxoffice.
