give SIK a try😊 I guess I enjoyed it because Akshay was in it, but I know many punjabis sadars and non sadars loved it, and no one thought it insulting

I know it wasn't probably insulting, my sister enjoyed it lol. I just don't like the way Sikhs are portrayed in movies.

Yeah that village scene was pretty stupid, but I don't think they meant to offend us ...
It was just a comedy movie, and they thought they can make people laugh this way so they did it ...
And I don't know if you'll agree with me but I know there is still a craze in Punjab to get their children married to NRI's... don't know why, because there is seriously nothing so special about my country Netherlands or any other foreign country & yeah its indeed ridiculous, but its there and we can't change it..

yeh, but i guess the turban is like a universal symbol of punjabi.. people in the west associate the headgear with punjabi/sikhism, so maybe they wanted to make the religious/cultural background of the family explicit for the non-desi audience.

i don't think most people will care if the actor has a real or fake beard, whether he's a real sardar or not, actors are hired based on what the character demands... and Anupum Kher has been in a few western productions so he's a familiar face, besides a good actor.

The turban is probably associated more with Osama, then with Sikhs to the world =P lol j/k. People might not care if the beard and turban are fake, but the actor portraying it makes the character looks fake. As far as Anupam Kher is concerned, his wife is a Punjabi so he speaks pretty decent Punjabi. I'd prefer him over Rishi Kapoor's portrayal of a Punjabi in Patiala House any day. Nonetheless, i still stand by the fact that there are many American/Canadian/UK actors who are sardars they could have used if they wanted to attract the "western" audience.

You're right, people are crazy about getting their kids married abroad. I really hope it changes though, it's tough to change views of the elders, but I hope the youth brings out a very much needed change. :) In many ways it's really messed up back home, the youth is too much involved in showing off, and indulging in their own pleasures, living off their parent's money. There is no system of working and earning. I really don't understand how it works there lol.
