OT: Some movies that come out of bollywood are good. I just watched Tere bin Laden tonight and it was pretty darn terrific. Hilarious as well as genius. These are rare but they come by so I'm not done with Bollywood yet. 😃

My last full Bollywood film was "Three Idiots" and then after that, it was "Band Baaja Baraat"...so basically I watch one Bollywood movie a yr. Never mind the fact that I am on a Bollywood forum daily (as Dexter mentioned 😆). Bollywood has become repetitive, stars lack charisma and it just looks like stuff is being churned out for the heck of it. There is good cinema but it's always lost within the mass entertainers, and the commercial aspect of Bollywood I will say is too predictable. No one excites me anymore in Bollywood, not even the younger lot. I feel there's not much room for actors in Bollywood and we aren't introduced to new talent which we really need...it's just the same old actors doing the same thing...VARIETY plz...I don't know why I am ranting, but there was one time, when I'd watch one or two movies weekly, but that was almost five yrs back. Nothing is exciting any more, it has lost its allure.

I have reached out to South Indian movies lately, and it just makes me appreciate cinema more. No, nothing is path breaking about South Indian films but I can sense a passion for films when I watch them, and I can connect to the actors enacting roles. I obviously don't know much about the inner politics of those industries, but Tollywood and Kollywood seem to cater to everyone. You can have a twenty yr old that gives a blockbuster who appeals largely to the youth; you can have a 45 yr old churn out a mass entertainer which pleases a certain section of the audience; or you can have serious cinema that can gather in its own niche. That way everyone is happy, everyone is excited. There's room for everyone.

Bollywood needs reinvention.

Bollywood has failed to excite me from the past few years. I blame it on the lack of content mainly. A huge blame goes to the star system whether the star is an actor, director or producers. Too many ridiculous mass entertainers are being churned out for whom I wouldnt be bothered to line up for a ticket at the box-office. I am absolutely bored of seeing buddha actors pairing themselves with below 30 heroines to pass themselves as young without giving a thought to how ridiculous they look. No one cares as they still make money.
But I am nevertheless excited by new age cinema and some newer actors like Abhay, Ranveer, Ranbir, Mahie Gill. I am curious to see their work in the long run.

I think except for Billa (and maybe a few othes) almost all the members here are armchair dilettantes of Bollywood movies. They argue, bash, praise, defend the stars with the passion of a 1000 suns. But, when it comes to actually going to watch a movie on screen.. then no bueno.

Nahi nah Billaji. I think you are probably one of the very few authentic movie-viewer in this forum. Everyone else go by hearsay, online reviews and word-of-mouth impressions.
