Why pin pointing only on Aishwarya? why not question Rani Mukherjee, Preity Zinta and many more, when was the last time Rani and Preity had a successful film lets just not even go to the blockbusters.
What kind of roles does heroines have in so called blockbuster movies? doing sleazy item numbers, having least 8 scenes and that's it.
Recent example Ready, one of the biggest blockbusters but what did Asin had to do in the movie? or lets say what will Kareena will do in Bodyguard? will people remember her performance or a character? NO, they will just remember that movie has big hit and after few years people wont even remember that, an actors job is to be remembered from their characters and give memorable performances and roles to people which they will cherish.
Fair enough Aishwarya did not had many blockbusters, but she do have many successful movies, great roles and excellent performances which people remember, even after 10 years from now on people will appreciate the great effort both Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan put in Guzaarish. Was Black a blockbuster? but it opened so many doors for Rani and made her one of the best actresses. Movies like Provoked, Raincoat, Chokher Bali getting selected in prestigious film festivals not because they were big hits but a quality of cinema which made huge impact on audience worldwide and for me that is the biggest victory award and whatever for an actor then being in a blockbuster movie where and actor have nothing to do.
Honestly speaking Aishwarya is over that hit or flop phase an hit wont make her any bigger star then now and a flop wont make her a failure, she is over that, she is a superstar and will always be whether her movies works or not. Her movies might have been disappointed on box office but she got to play some of the best roles in those movies, Raagini in Raavan was a fabulous role and performance she not only got praised from critics but even got great feedback from the film festivals, Guzaarish is a another movie where she proved why she is in business, she was outstanding in the film playing one of her better roles. Even in Action Replayy she walked away with good feedback and Endhiran was a history.
As for her Hollywood movies, well she did made some wrong choices but did she do good work in them, well yes. Bride and Prejudice was a clean hit everywhere (Solo Aishwarya movie), The last legion recovered all the money from the huge success in Russia while it never got the wide release in other countries. Provoked another solo Aishwarya movie, which got screened at Cannes and other big film festivals was a clean success in London and actually did way better then Mira Nair's Namesake and Aishwarya walked away with some of the best reviews where western critics called her a excellent actress. Mistress of spices was a big disaster and after watching the movie I can understand why. As for Pink Panther 2 it was a hit too and even in India thanks to Aishwarya's presence, and those who says she have 5 minutes role in the movie really need to watch the movie before passing such false remarks, she had the 2nd most important role in the movie.
Boxoffice success is important but for real audience better movie, great characters and fabulous performances are far more important. If anyone pays me biggest amount even then I wont even go and watch something like Ready, Thank You, Houseful etc, I will rather watch something sensible like Ishqiya, Guzaarish, Raavan or a Udaan.
Does Aishwarya have hit movies yes, does she have many blockbusters not really but does she have great roles, HELL YES. & that is more then enough, Kareena, Katrina and all others can have blockbusters and play bit roles in them, Aishwarya Vidya can enjoy the real roles. 😊
