'Most of the writers are in time warp!'

All set to kick-start his next film SHOOT OUT AT WADALAand spending time giving the finishing touches to the film's script and screenplay, Gupta believes that the reason behind the writer community going extinct in Bollywood is due to the 'shortcut' approach being adopted by those in the business.

"See, it is a specialized job and I am all for someone really competent and talented to graduate from being a writer to a director. But then when someone just knocks your doors as a writer and then wants to become a director since he is so starry eyed, it seems like a pointless exercise," explains Gupta, "They get an opportunity to sit across the table with celebrities and feel good about getting promoted in their journey to the top, that's about it."


He isn't particularly happy about some of those few writers either who haven't quite bitten the bait when it comes to moving into direction.

"Thankfully there are a few out there but then let the fact be stated, most of established writers are in a time warp," he says, "They should understand that they can't be churning out the same stuff that they probably did successfully in 2000s. They should aim at getting out of the comfort zone and should understand that cinema is changing rapidly now. The generation gap is not 20 years now, it is just 10 years. What worked in 2001 won't necessarily work in 2011."

Well Sanjay, looking at first half of 2011 being disastrous save for READY and some other small successes, one tends to agree with you here. However now one just hopes that you too practice what you preach and indeed give audience something to cheer about with SHOOT OUT AT WADALA.
