Salman Khan's clearly on a roll. Salmania started with WANTED, continued with DABANGG, and now it's all set to get stronger with READY. In fact, the success of WANTED and DABANGG, was in all likelihood, the reason to make READY. The film has Salman Khan written all over it.

Salman plays Prem (for the nth time), a 'bholi shakal wala kamina'. He stays in a HUM AAPKE HAIN KAUN type happy joint family. Sanjana (Asin) enters Prem's life pretending to be the US returned Pooja, Prem's potential wife. Even Prem isn't aware about Sanjana's asliyat. She's actually on the run because of her warring mamas, who want to get her married to their respective saalas, so that they can inherit her property. When Prem is made aware about this, he decides to put an end to the animosity between the brothers, but in his own unique style.

Director Anees Bazmee kicks off the film nicely with short character introductions (Mahesh Manjerekar's forgetful character is clearly lifted from KHOOBSOORAT). And to introduce Prem's character, there's the Character Dheela item song with Zarine Khan. Even the initial fights between Sanjana and Prem infuse freshness. The first half is breezy, sprinkled with the right amount of humour. So far, so good.

After the 'pee/tea break' (read interval), the graph of the narrative does dip. The typical Anees Bazmee type humour takes over. Prem's action scenes in the climax do manage to elevate the proceedings to a certain extent. But unlike DABANGG, there aren't many dialogues or action sequences that you'll treasure for a long time.

Sunil Patel and Thomas Xavier's cinematography is great. Pritam's music is good, with Dhinka Chikabeing the peppiest number. However some songs do appear forced in the narrative.

Salman Khan is in his element. His usual style and charisma is very much there. Asin is nice and has a meaty role. Paresh Rawal is excellent. Mahesh Manjerekar gets a well etched out character. Manoj Joshi gets a good role. Sudesh Lehri is hilarious. Sanjay Dutt, Ajay Devgn, Kangna Ranaut, Zarine Khan, Chunky Pandey and Arbaaz Khan are fun to watch in their cameos. All the other actors are fine in their respective roles.

Apart from Salman, READY has enough masala to be a complete entertainer.

P.S. For all the girls, Salman Khan does remove his shirt in one scene.

Rating - 3/5

READY: SALMAN KHAN PROVES HE IS A SUPERSTAR👏
A dialogue in READY which is a punch-line of the film I, Me, Myself defines the contours of READY as it being the film which has been taken off from where DABANGG ended, i.e. a film which underlines what an actor should do, let the audience eat out of his hands with his innuendoes and idiosyncrasies, and this is what has made it another super hit in the making. Audience all across the country, i.e. the film viewing public who goes into the world of escapism to forget their worries are really floored with READY and the critics be damned.

After all, which film star in the present times has the confidence to turn a film having a weak story line to gloss over the weakness through his mannerisms and confidence to wade through the film and make the audience READY to lap up DABANGG-2, but a Salman Khan? It is precisely for this reason that Salim Khan, Salman Khan's father keeps on saying that if Salman Khan starts giving more attention to his acting, competition would think twice before standing up to him.

While he may play the role of a spoilt brat belonging to a rich family as he has done in READY, he indeed is a smart alec that the signposts which he uses in his songs as backdrop have a commonality, be it a bus in 'Dhinka Chika' or an auto in the climax scene of the film, Which film star other than Salman uses such street furniture with regularity, and he has been doing it since MAINE PYAAR KIYA where bicycle was his leitmotif in the climax scene. There are other stars as well who try to use these tell tale signposts to convey a message of commonality but the conviction that Salman Khan brings into his role is seen to be believed.

CHECK OUT: READY Movie Review

As far as Asin pairing with Salman Khan is concerned she has proved that the chemistry that she brought about with Salman Khan in LONDON DREAMS was no fluke and she has taken it to a new level with her comedy in READY. The moot point however would be, whether Salman would pair with Asin in the subsequent films, as it happens very rarely that he repeats his female co-stars. A regular in Salman Khan films is Mahesh Manjerakar right from WANTED , through DABANGG and now READY, but he needs to appear in meatier roles, as he is also one of the good performers of the present times.

All in all, this weekend READY is going to provide an interesting break through from the hectic life style that we reach and the collections are going to zoom all across.

Ready should have just been called: Salman Khan. The film is essentially a one-man show by an actor, who doesn't act.

Instead, he plays himself with aplomb ' a charming rockstar who can, without much sweat, win the girl, beat-up the bad guy, reconcile warring relations and of course, bare his chiseled chest.

This time, he even asks us, the viewers, mazaa aya?

How much you enjoy Ready is directly proportionate to your affection for Salman and cheerfully cheesy, low-brow humour.

Thankfully, Ready isn't in the same soul-sucking category as director Anees Bazmee's last two movies: Thank You and No Problem. But it still falls very much into his special brand of brain-dead, anything-for-a-laugh comedy.

So, the climax includes little boys standing in a line and peeing on the baddies; the dialogue includes lines like: "in that case, aa jao mere paas meri suitcase" and my favorite: "aaj pehli baar kisi aurat ne samajdari ki baat ki" and if you prefer your films to have a coherent plot, then you best sit this one out.

The story, what there is of it, involves Prem, played by Salman Khan, falling in love with an imposter Sanjana, played by Asin, and then attempting to get her two angry, criminal uncles to like each other again. Prem keeps saying: "I love these mafia peoples."

The film is a remake of a Telugu blockbuster and it comes with loud but infectious songs with titles such as Dhinka Chika and Character Dheela. Obviously class, wit, craft, continuity have little significance here.

Ready made me laugh sporadically but beyond a point I could almost feel my brain cells shrinking and exhaustion setting in, one joke at a time. I'm going with two stars.
