^ ditto. I never liked the adaptation, Alaipayuthey established Maddy as a star and actor, and all the original songs were too good. I too remember old childhood days in India whenever i hear Pachai Nirame lol. it is one of Mani's most touching films.

day 20 - a film that has one of the best soundtrack

Aisha. I literally love every song in this film. And I think there is a lot of different kind of songs in the film for everyone.

It's my fave film too, and my fave on-screen couple 😃 I simply love the 'Kadhal Sadugu' song 😳

Mani Ratnam's movies have this amazing aura to them, at times u walk out of the theatre wondering whether u like the movie or not. I've loved all his films... Be it 'Anjali' or the most recent 'Raavan' 😳

'Alaipayuthe' : It reminds me of my maasi's shaadi in late 80s or early 90s and the drama post-wedding 😆 Typical filmy types, the scene in the movie when Shalini says she's already married, is exactly what happened at home 😛 And then the drama followed for a couple of years later, but all's well that ends well 😃

p.s. I hate the Hindi version. Was never fond of Vivek or Rani, and the music din't help either 😕 Saathiya 👎🏼

Maddy looks so cute! The girl is very pretty also. I want to watch Alaipayuthe but don't understand Tamil. Which sucks because if I enjoyed the Hindi adaptation I am sure I would like the original version better.

Netflix has a DVD available. Maybe you can try that. Let me look up some links with cc, if possible 😆

It's just that we are so used to seeing him portray the same characters that we don't believe in his acting prowess. I do believe that he is a fine method actor and his best is yet to come, and that is if he actually tries different things at this juncture and markets it well.

^ oh my lord, just read it. the even more disturbing part is how "tweaked for it to suit shahrukh' is written right after 'In the film the couple are grandparents" implying that the tweak will definitley be the leap from 'grandparent' to 'handsome young hero'.

mmm i am getting bad vibes, under the right direction SRK could blossom but i think this role should just go to an older actor as it was meant to be portrayed, naseerudin could do it. And Karan... I actually have liked most of his movies with the exception of "My Name Is Khan", so i really think he shouldnt be responsible of this adaptation.

^ I didn't bother with MNIK. I'm fine with KJo's cheesy, gloss fluff. I wish it was a more serious director and it was not "tweaked" to suit SRK. I think SRK is capable of pulling off a non-hamming older man role and I would like Juhi Chawla to play his wife. No Kajol, please!
