Do controversies really help d success of a movie?

We all know Bollywood resorts to creating controversies just before the release of a movie. Some of them are real controversies but for most part, they are created by the makers of the movie to grab eyeballs towards their movie.

My questions is, do you feel these controversies are necessary?. Do they really pull you to the theatres to watch the movie?

Examples of famous controversies
1) Aamir and Chetan Bhagat faceoff during 3 Idiots movie release.
2) MNIK had a lot of controversies around it.
3) We see a lot of linkups between the co-stars just before the movie release. For example now Bips and Rana are getting linked when their movie Dum Maro Dum is due for release.

In my case, controvery or no-controversy, I will go watch a movie if the subject matter interests me. But controversies surely help creating the buzz around the movie. I will take for example the 3 idiots controversy. Everyone those days were talking about that controversy and 3 Idiots.
