its all in the packaging i guess!! these days movies only make money if they shown in the promos that the movie is a "fun ride". so the promos, which showed the movie to be melodramatic, people were kind of tuned off.
its a trend; Tees maar khan made money despite being comepletly rubbish, ditto for Break Ke baad, i hate luv storys.
but movies like guzzarish PH dont.

also, PH releasing so soon after Tees Mar khan might have impacted the movie. TMK was really horrible and akki's bankablity in making a good movie tanked!

Watched the movie, total bhakwaas. I have lived in London for a while now and I can tell you confidently, with a few exceptions the Indian community here are very well integrated with the English.

Here are my 3 pointers-

1. Akshay- Take a break and disappear from our screens for a while.
2. Anushka- The movie is a reminder as to why she needs to get back to talking less about her relationships and letting her work speak for itself.
3. Nikhil Advani- Re join Kjo and direct movies written by him.

Has this movie already released???????😲

gosh was this movie even promoted? all I saw was anushka with ranveer in every single dam awarrd show, event, in the news simply everywhere these last weeks but didn't see much of anushka with akki I guess its because I am tired of seeing anushka and ranveer so much together these last weeks.

Watched the movie last night and it was great. Yeah it has a few things which are unrealistic but it all goes in a movie.
Akki's acting was superb, he emoted really well and you actually felt sorry for the guy. The last time this happened was way back when he acted in Dharkan.
Anushka was a breath of fresh air in the movie, she's the one that supported Akki and made him realize he can act on his own wishes.
Rishi Kapoor displayed the man of the house really well and his hate for the goras was well shown in the beginning of the movie. He looks really good as a sardar.
Dimple Kapadia well she didn't have much to say but she emoted really well showing her pain being caught between her son and her husband. For a small roll you do notice her and she looks really good with Rishi.
Zee, who play's Anushka's brother but I don't know his real name was so good in the movie. Loved him pestering Akki and also when he becomes buddy buddy with Rishi. He's naughty and adorable.
Everyone emoted really well and the movie was awesome. Yeah some parts were unbelievable but that's part of hindi cinema so don't take it too serioulsy if it defies logic but overall a very good entertainer.
It's a very good movie and you should definitely go and see it. If you had written off Akki saying he can't act anymore then you have to see this one as he's done a tremendous job.

Will The Bad Opening Of Patiala House Affect Thank You Opening?

Monday 14th February 2011 09.00 IST

Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Q. Do award winners pay money to get the awards?

A. No money is not exchanged. Today awards are basically given on relationship basis with organisers and whether you make it to the awards. If you are not doing a paid act and come to the awards, the organisers in all likelihood will give you an award. Thats why you have so many categories.

Q. Will the bad opening of Patiala House opening affect Thank You opening?
A. No. Akshay will be like the masses like him in Thank You so opening will there just a question of how big. Just like Action Replayy did not stop Tees Maar Khan getting a bumper opening, Patiala House will have no affect on Thank You

Q. Do films like Dabanng and Tees Maar Khan take huge openings due to Munni and Shiela?
A. They do help but are not the main reasons. Put a Shiela or Munni in Patiala House or No Problem does not mean they will get a bumper response. The most important must for a bumper opening is you have to have a big superstar and this superstar has to be shown how the masses like to see him in a big commercial film.

Q. How much will Patiala House loss?
A. As big actors are taking profit share deals today, there are always profits on the table before release. This is also the case with Patiala House and now it remains to be seen if the distributors in which territories the film has been sold outright recover the prices they paid. Worst case scenario is minimal losses for distributors.

Midweek B.O.: 'Patiala House' appreciated, but numbers are missing
- By Taran Adarsh, February 14, 2011 - 15:34 IST
Film Cast Plusses Minusses Verdict

Patiala House
Akshay Kumar, Rishi Kapoor, Dimple Kapadia, Anushka Sharma, Armaan Kirmani, Jeneva Talwar, Usman Qureshi, Tinnu Anand, Prem Chopra, Soni Razdan Akshay Kumar's performance, dramatic moments and penultimate portions Screenplay is erratic Despite appreciation, the numbers are missing. Ideally, the film should have collected at least Rs. 20 cr nett in its opening weekend, but the film has collected approx. Rs. 15.25 cr nett in its first three days. The film collected approx. Rs. 4.10 cr on Friday, showed a 20%-25% jump on Saturday by collecting Rs. 5.05 cr, but didn't show a massive jump on Sunday [Rs. 6.10 cr]. Below expectations. This is amongst Akshay's lowest openers

Yeh Saali Zindagi
Irrfan Khan, Chitrangda Singh, Arunoday Singh, Aditi Rao Hydari, Saurabh Shukla, Sushant Singh, Vipin Sharma, Yashpal Sharma, Prashant Narayanan, Vipul Gupta A taut screenplay that ensures monotony doesn't set in. Plus, super performances from the entire cast. Also, Sudhir Mishra's handling of the subject material Inconsistent pacing and a few unwanted sequences that add to the length Remained rock-steady at urban centres in its second weekend, despite a big opposition in the form of 'Patiala House'. Theatrical business [above average]

Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji
Ajay Devgn, Emraan Hashmi, Omi Vaidya, Shazahn Padamsee, Shraddha Das, Shruti Haasan, Tisca Chopra, Mukesh Tiwari, Aditya Raj Kapoor, Rituparna Sengupta, Harward Rosemeyer Camaraderie between Ajay, Emraan and Omi and the unpredictable storyline, post intermission Writing could be tighter, better finale and excessive length Theatrical business [average]. Overall profitable due to low costs

Yamla Pagla Deewana
Dharmendra, Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Kulraj Randhawa, Anupam Kher, Johny Lever, Nafisa Ali, Sucheta Khanna, Amit Mistry, Mukul Dev, Himanshu Malik, Puneet Issar, Emma Brown Garrett, Ajay Devgn [voiceover] Watching the Deols in one frame. Plus, a captivating second half First half is sloppy. Romantic portions don't work Hit

Angel
Nilesh Sahay, Madalsa Sharma, Aroona Irani, Manoj Joshi, Kishori Shahane Vij, Rakhi Vijan Interesting story Shoddy screenplay and amateurish direction Extremely poor opening weekend

(Ratings are based on the box office collections and the cost of the film)
