Do Item Numbers Enhance a Movie?

Throughout the years in our Indian Cinema, item numbers have been quite dominant. Throughout the past we've had some very nice item numbers. And lately its been a huge trend amongst the recent movies we've seen. How much do these item songs impact the movie? Does item numbers mean the greater chances for success for the movie? Or is item numbers just for pure entertainment purposes?

What's your take? Should they be necessary in the movie? Are they the key component of a film's success? Or is a film's success solely based on the script and the acting of the star cast?

Yep in crap fests and movies like TMK with no script and bufoonery in the name of acting you do need a Sheila Ki Jawani to grab eyeballs. 😛

And in movies with a tight script and good acting like Rajneeti, OUATIM you dont need item songs. 😊

I think item songs too have more popualrity for the movie. Like with Billu's case. Getting PC, Bebo AND Deepika was probably a treat for the director's eyes but the audience didn't approve! Surprise there! But in Tees Maar Khan's case, she IS an item girl in the actual movie! So that makes sense.

The one and only Item number that I really liked was 'Kajrare' from Bunty aur Babli! That song did enhance the film and it was perfectly placed in it!

Othewise, Item Numbers are usually a time when I go and fetch my Popcorn and Coffee in the Theatre!😆

it gives the film more exposure but at the end the film its self has to carry it

Yes. Sometimes I like to see a film just to watch the item number, well if the film's promo sucked that is 😆 than I only care about the item number. Like when Dabang came out, I didn't like the promo, but I liked Munni Badnaam hui...so I wanted to see the film just to see the full item song.

they do add 'tadka' to a movie...sometimes even a flop film is remembered b'coz of its item number😆😆...'ishq kamina' is a gud example i can think of at the moment😉
