His role as a host on an ongoing reality show too has gone well with the audiences. But that's not only why he's creating a buzz these days - it's also for the support that he's been lending to several social causes including that of bone marrow donation of late.
Having joined hands with the Marrow Donor Registry (India) through his NGO, Khan is now working towards creating awareness about how marrow donors can save lives.
The actor's pledged his own bone marrow and he's now working towards getting volunteers to do the same. He's also unabashed about using every public platform available to further this cause - be it fashion shows or Twitter.
And the actor, who's been associated with several causes in the past too, feels that it has nothing to do with his star status. "Yes, sure I do put my stardom to good use by drawing attention towards issues that need to be addressed and that I think I can help. But it's also a fact that you don't need to be a star to help someone. All it really takes to make a difference or help someone is a desire to do so. That motivation will help you find the means too," says Salman.
To many people whose lives have been saved through his NGO, Salman's nothing less than a hero off-screen too. But point this out to the star and he chooses to be modest about it.
"I think that there's a hero within all of us. We should just let that side of us out every once in a while for the right causes," adds the actor, who's also ever- ready to lend his name to any noble cause.
"That's the least I can do, na?" he counters.
"God's been very kind to me and I think it's only fair that I do my best to repay his kindness in any small way that I can," he signs off.
