When it comes to the looks department, there is no doubt that Arjun Rampal is one of the best looking men in the country, today. Unfortunately, he hasn't aced, when it comes to his choice of past films. Surprisingly, even, with the excess baggage of flops behind him, he has quite an exciting lineup of films. These include Farhan Akhtar's Don, Karan Johar's Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, and the soon to be released Apoorva Lakhia directed Ek Ajnabee along with Amitabh Bachchan and Perizaad Zorabian. Ek Ajnabee will see him sporting a whole new look… and there's more. He will be turning item boy with this one! Over to Arjun! The plot of Ek Ajnabee… Well, it is a film about Mr.Bachchan, who plays the ajnabee. His, as well as my characters were in the army before and things went wrong. He has been my mentor, but both of us are chucked out. My character starts a nightclub in Bangkok. Mr.Bachchan's character develops a kind of drinking problem and so I call him to Bangkok and get him a job. He becomes a bodyguard for this little girl called Anamika, played by Rucha Vaidya. As he starts reforming, something else happens. This incident makes him really angry! It is about the relationships between all of us. The movie is very realistic and has a great storyline.
It is always a wonderful experience to work with him because he is so experienced. He brings so much with him. Although, generally he is a quiet person, when he gives a tip, or some knowledge, it is priceless. It is wonderful to have him on the set because he motivates everybody. He also has a great sense of humor! The homework for the character… Apoorva was very clear that he wanted a specific look. My character has run off from the army. So the first thing that he does is grow his hair. He's in Bangkok so he gets a lot of tattoos. Actually, Apoorva himself has a lot of tattoos! So in this film, I could sport all the tattoos I wanted all my life, but didn't have the guts for! The look was linen suits with Kolhapuri chappals. Writing of course is very important, for any character. The role was well written, with easy dialogues. They are just how we speak in real life, not very filmi dialogues. The action too is very real. We didn't have cables because that looks artificial. I'd say it is a hard hitting film. Item boy? They put me because they didn't find any item girls (jokingly). The scene involves us going into a night club. You will see girls as well, who I dance with. The other performances… Well, there is Vikram Chatwal, a guy who was a complete ajnabee when he came on the sets. Now, he is a good friend and has done a great job in the movie. Perizaad is a method actress. The only time I saw the method acting in her was when she had to slap people! I don't have too many scenes with her but I have seen her work. It was quite a difficult role to play and she has done a good job. Apoorva has got a good performance from her. I think the child actress, Rucha is mind blowing. It's a really good performance. She has made a lot of people very happy and proud of her. God bless her! Mr. Bachchan, without doubt is mind blowing. As for me, see me and tell me!
Apoorva is the kind of guy who studies you as an individual. He tries to bring that individuality into the character. It must have not been easy for him to design a look for Amitabh Bachchan, considering how many movies, Mr. Bachchan has done. I'm still new so it must have been easier for me. He had an equation with everybody in the film. A fun experience… There were lots of pranks but they are all censored because they happened in Bangkok. When we had just landed, Apoorva insisted that we take a 'tuk tuk' ride (a 'tuk tuk' is a local auto rickshaws in Bangkok). We were sitting in it and the driver was really speeding on the highway. Suddenly, Apoorva slipped 100 bucks to him and asked him to do a wheelie. We were already in speed and the driver does a wheelie! It was quite frightening! But good fun all the same! Before we knew it, we were doing these 'tuk tuk' races on the streets of Bangkok! Complete with wheelies! What keeps him going in his low phases… When you are low, you buy yourself expensive things. And when you are up, you make more money so that when you are low, you can buy yourself expensive things. | |
