Actually Preity is a decent actress. But my love for Rani always overshadowed her. 😆 But I still like her a lot. Hope she comes back - possibly in a film with Rani, like early days. 😆 I don't think this is going to happen, though.

n personally i think it was also Preity's offscreen personality that made me look up to her as a person, way more than any other celebrity, 4 that matter ever did..
n umm..well im not that much interested n a movie with the 2 f them though..but ya f ts lyk old days its fine i guess..but i hated KANK..wouldnt even watch t f t wasnt Preity n Abhishek..so in a way a movie dealing with a happier subject with the 2 f them 2 erase the bad memories might be actually nice!

Personally, the only three films that made me see Preity as a good actress would be KANK, VZ, and HOE - otherwise the rest of her performances weren't what I'd call acting - let alone good ones. Even in VZ, Rani clearly was the better performer, which overshadowed both PZ and even SRK to some extent. PZ's acting never appealed to me. She is better than a Kat or a Deep, but nowhere close to a Rani or a Kajol, IMHO. Tssk...difference of opinion...something that is bound to happen. 😆 So what's the point of arguing? 😆 Let's leave it here. 😆 You have yours, I have mine. 😆

Oh and its not that I don't think much of PZ as a good actress because of her competition with Rani...if that was the case then I would have disliked Kajol too, who is another fav. actress of mine (though I don't consider her very versatile). But whatever. 😆

P.S. I love PZ's personality too. 😛

To be honest I think Kajol is overrated....If not than explain to me how she gets an award for what she did in K3G. A lot of roles that Preity did was better than what kajol did in K3G. I was shocked when she won best actress for K3G. Am not alone either a lot of people thought she won because K3G was a big hit and she was a popular actress. Anyways I think what preity did in Kya khena and even Dil hai tumhara were better performance than what kajol did in K3G.

In my opinion Preity is an underated actress, because how would you explain her doing great roles and never recieving awards and kajol doing crap overracting like K3G and getting an award for it.

Don't get me wrong I love kajol and i think she is a great actress.

Ps i love preity too. And i hope she comes back and overshadows actresses of today that are popular for their looks more than their talent.

MY OPINION and NOT a FACT:

I never found Preity's acting to be convincing enough. Her acting - especially in high-dramatic, crying scenes - seemed forced. Kya Kehna, Dil Chahta Hai, Chori Chori Chupke Chupke, Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega, even Kal Ho Na Ho and Armaan and most especially Salam Namaste and Koi Mil Gaya - she hammed throughout all the movies. She overacted, underacted, at times made me cringe with her hammy performances. I, for one, found her to be absolutely unconvincing as the single mother in Kya Kehna, the prostitute in Chori Chori Chupke Chupke (especially this!). She was good in Veer-Zaara, but Rani overshadowed her big time (btw, Rani received several awards for her performance in VZ as supporting actress, including Sabsey Favorite Kaun heroine, being the first actress to win this award from a supporting role category, whereas Preity received a few awards for main actress for this movie - again, Rani overshadowed her in Hum Tum - which wasn't even as big a hit as VZ, and yet Rani ended up receiving the best actress awards in almost all big award ceremonies), which sort of digressed her. Yeah, she was unlucky that, that year she got overshadowed by better performances, but then, looking at her career graph, she did win a few awards for Kal Ho Na Ho - which was not undeserving IMHO. Watch Urmilla in Bhoot, you'd see what true acting is. Even Tabu in Maqbool deserved a few awards - if not more. I was so glad when Urmilla won the awards in Screen, Zee Cine, and many other award functions, and this isn't because I don't like Preity - in fact I like her way more than Urmilla. She was tolerable in KANK - but I guess her character won over her acting; though I will give the credit where it is due - she (along with Abhi) were only few good things about the film (Rani made me cringe there!). Now Heaven on Earth - she was brilliant there. Dil Se...okay, I guess, but then, Mani Ratnam can even make Aishwariya act. 😆 Look at Rani in Yuva and Preity in Dil Se (both directed by Mani) and you'd see it for yourself who performed better.

Personally, I think Rani in Veer-Zaara, Saathiya, Hum Tum, and mostly Yuva shines over Preity on her best, which must be HOE. **Rani was clearly the better performer of her generation, which, in some way, shape or form, inspired Preity.**

For me, Preity had always been an average actress, and she requires/required excellent directors to bring good performances from her (much like Kareena and Priyanka - both of them can give good performances as long as they work under good directors; take them away, they will give pretty meddicre performances, that it will make most cringe; i.e. - Preity in Koi Mil gaya, Kareena in MPKDH). This means she isn't a natural actress like Madhuri, Kajol, Rani - these three can give decent performances in even the most horrendous of all films.

Also, I never found Preity to be "versatile". To be honest, in order to be versatile, you will have to do justice to the various forms of roles that you do - and doing justice to them is something Preity, being the average actress that she is, rarely did. 😛 With just two decent and one brilliant performance(s?) on her career - VZ, KANK, HOE - I can't call her versatile.

Also, Preity was never the "first choice" of the films that made her famous. Kya Kehna, her first break-through film, was first offered to Kajol. When Kajol declined the offer, it went to Preity. Same with Kal Ho Na Ho - when Kareena refused, Preity took the role. Same story with Veer-Zaara, when Ash rejected the offer, Preity took it. Now, if things went as planned, would Preity have these huge blockbusters on her credit? No. Take away Kya Kehna, Kal Ho Na Ho and Veer-Zaara - and look at her career graph. She wouldn't be what she is today without those three, right?

On the other hand, Rani was the first choice of Saathiya (her first break-through movie), the original and first choice of Chalte Chalte (yes, CC was first offered to her and not Ash, and I can source it as well), the first choice of Yuva, Hum Tum, Veer-Zaara, Black & Bunti aur Bubly. She was also offered The Namesake (a highly acclaimed English film; Tabu substituted her when she could not commit to the project due to clashing dates with KANK). She wasn't the first choice of KANK - but then, KANK didn't help her go up the ladder like Kya Kahena, KHNH, VZ helped Preity. So it can be said that Rani moved up on her own, while Preity had to rely on rejected roles to go up the ladder. 😛

Rani's performances received much more critical acclaims than Preity's. Other than VZ & HOE, were there any performances of her which made critics praise her sky-high? I can't remember...maybe if someone can help. Rani, on the other hand, was always praised by critics, no matter how the film fared at BO. Her performances in films like Hey Ram, Yuva, Saathiya and mostly Black were hugely acclaimed and praised. Even KANK, DBH, CC, B&B were praised as well. If my memory is correct, critics always seemed to be positive on Rani.

Coming to Kajol...she has star power over anything else. She does a movie after a break of five years, and everyone rushes to the hall to watch it (Faana). Even a crap (IMO) like MNIK becomes super blockbuster. Flops like Um, Me, Aur Hum is highly acclaimed by critics too. But I agree...she is overrated. But then, most actresses are - be it Rani, Madhuri, Kajol - all of them are praised more than necessary. Irrespective of their acting capabilities, they receive more hype and recognitions than they deserve. She might be overrated, but she is a NATURAL actress, and that's what makes her so special. She did not learn acting through her career - she had that potential on her blood, which she showcased from her very first films (Bekhudi, Bazigaar).

Agree with every words you wrote especially the part in which you compare Preity to her current aliases = Kareena + Priyanka - only good with a good director...otherwise I don't find them impressive...
