I just watched 3 Idiots (finally) and I just can't stop smiling! Nor can I stop dancing in my room to all izz well!!
I actually have an interesting article to share with a different opinion about 3 idiots:
http://ibnlive.in.com/blogs/sagarikaghose/223/54036/from-three-idiots-to-a-nation-of-idiots.html
The author of this article, in my opinion totally failed to get what the movie was trying to get across.
Anyways, just wanted to share.
As for the movie, I don't think there was even one scene that I did not enjoy throughout the movie. It not only provided insight into changing our education system as well as our ways of thinking, and how we perceive our success, it was very entertaining while doing so.
What I loved was how Rancho and Amir were not the prime focus. As an audience, not many people can relate to Rancho since he's so different, and a genius. But what was amazing to watch was how he inspired those around him. And I liked how the movie wasn't preachy, it was inspiring in the sense that Rancho's 'all izz well' formula didn't serve to forget work and just do masti, but to give you the courage needed to do what you love best.
Even though some of the parts of the movie can be said to be exaggerated, the emotions of the movie were in the right place. I was actually so stunned in some parts (the scene after all izz well where the helicopter camera shows the student), so inspired and pleasantly amazed in some parts (the delivery scene), laughing my head off in scenes such as the balatkaar scene and tearing up every time Sharman's eyes teared up. He did that SO well by the way.
The movie was not only very entertaining, it also makes you think about our society in India. Our constant judgement on others according to their status, our on-going comparisions with others, and our desire to flaunt our higher status in others' faces. These are the pressures faced by our society which ultimately cause pressures on everyone, including the formation of an education system that is simply a 'rat-race'. The scene in the movie where Rancho tells Virus of how degrading and dividing the notice board results posting system is, the scene where Farhan's dad is worried that he may not be that rich if he does not choose engineering, and Silencer's constant bragging about his million dollar house and lambourghini are some of the scenes highlighting these points.
And of course the movie also provides an insight into thinking about our education system. Just blindly rata-fying everything taught might make you successful and get you your million dollar house and lambourghini much like Silencer, but it also makes you another yes-boss type of follower. And that's definately something to think about- whether India's education produces more followers than leaders. Leaders with creative minds and aspirations to change the existing ways of thinking.
And even if all the bashans and thinking are removed, the movie is still highly entertaining and enjoyable! I simply loved it! And now I MUSTTTT go and blast 'all izz well' and dance around in my room!!!! And my next lifetime goal is to learn how to whistle. :D
Arreyyyyyy bakreeee ALL IZZZ WELLLLL!!!

So beautifully said, Pallo 👏 👏 👏 ....especially the bit in bold! That just about sums up the movie....and I concur with each and everything you said...it's that rare kind of movie that comes along once in a while....You are totally absorbed while watching it and not for a single moment does it seem like you are bored or it's a chore to get through a scene....the pacing of the movie is just perfect and you are hooked waiting to see what happens after each scene....till the end, it grips you....and in so many ways...whether you are laughing, feeling emotional, or marveling at some of the simple yet such poignant things they show in this movie....it's amazing.

Words will for fall short if I decide to write a review for the movie, and my thoughts are scattered at the moment. Where do I begin? I knew that I would not be disappointed on a Saturday evening in the theatre with family, but boy was I in for an adventurous ride. From my father to my brother who's in middle school could relate to the story, and it really made us all ponder over the situations that we all deal within our lifetimes. Many of my pals have seen this movie, and it's amusing how we drag in 3 Idiots (just a movie) into our discussions and dissect the scenes which relate with our lives.

Today I was downloading songs from the movie which by the way I especially cherish since the lyrics are so subtle, yet make an impact, especially 'Give me some sunshine.' --I have been humming the line 'Saari umr hum mar mar ke jee liye, ek pal toh ab jeene do jeene do.' Anyhow, my kid brother who's just in middle school of course enjoyed the movie just as anyone else, and I queried him how he could relate to the movie. He didn't answer much but then after a while he said 'well if I get an 89 on my report card then Maama would just not spaaaaareeeeee me.' Maama = Mother. My parents are two wonderful people, but of course their mindset is just like every other parent where they want their children to get great grades, and be successful with their professions, but somewhere at times that can result in pressure because if we fail at a task, then we let them down.

Being in India or abroad doesn't matter because everywhere these days folks judge one on status, cars, branded clothes, profession, etc., thus the pressure is on. Doctor and teacher are both respectable professions, but it's despicable to see the difference in treatments the society showers them with which was also highlighted in the film, when Silencer giggles at Rancho for being a school teacher. Our society and the way of life has created vast differences within professions, and it's just a saying that all work is equal. My friend who is an Undergraduate student tells me that whenever at gatherings, when one would ask her about her major, she would state Journalism, and folks would pity her. Some would shock and gasp while saying, 'Your parents let you do that' or others would add 'Oh so you plan into going into Law?' When she would reply 'No' to that, then they would go 'Ohh, Ok' in disappointment and sigh. Why is it like this? Can one only be satisfied and respected with a degree in Biology or Law?

What else...Yes we all run after success, but not excellence. Truer words have not been said before. Farhan's Dad, somewhat like my mother (I love my Mom, lol), wanted best for his son and sacrificed so much for him just so that he would be able to study and be successful was the story I could relate with. I recall Farhan saying something such as 'Main Engineer ban bhi jaaonga toh bahut bura Engineer banooga.' Very real. Many students are being forced into professions they despise, and by mugging up books without fully comprehending, they do gain in the marks, but never ever fully understand their profession. It's almost as if someone doesn't want to be a doctor but ends up being one due to pressure, except is not a great one. Why would I want him to treat me? And sadly so many people are like that...

Sharman was just purely amazing and at par with others in his scenes, be it him tearing up and being emotional or the job interview. It's true how many of us are afraid and end up being superstitious besides actually making use of our time. I have been thru it and done it.

Rancho...my words won't do justice if I describe him. His infamous 'Aal izz well' statment, innocence, charm inspired me. Not once did I find him preachy, but yes, it made me ponder about our education system and with what I want in life.

Piya, Virus, Silencer, Millimeter were amazing too. I want to write about them too, but before that I must watch the movie again.

This post didn't discuss the movie, I know, but the movie itself brought in questions in my mind which I laid out here. Definitely, this is among the finest Bollywood Cinema seen by me, and despite its flaws, it managed to affect me.

Excellent movie . No overacting , very beliveable , not the cliched love story types .
I cant think of any other actor who could played the role of Rancho . Only AMIR could do it , and he has done it par excellence !!!👏👏👏
Here is a movie which makes me proud to say that there is excellence in Hindi Cinima .

aah , u wrote down everything soo well. seriously , the movie grew more within me , the more number of times i watched and felt.. no movie in the world r flawless, bt wen it touches u flaws dnt even get noticed.3 idiots is nt exactly a movie bt i guess something dat really shows the true picture of our society.n system dat runs ..n is really deep rooted

actually soo. " bachpan bhi gaya jawaani bhi gayi , ab toh jeene do jeene do " so tru..my sudden decrease in school marks in class 10th came as a shock to my parents. must b some 5 % .. and then came the time wen i needed to choose my career. still unaware whether really i wanted to b an engineer or nt..sometimes ppl do realise fast abt their interests , n sometimes the pressure around puzzles u so much dat u too cant find the actual thing dat interests u..

Being in India or abroad doesn't matter because everywhere these days folks judge one on status, cars, branded clothes, profession, etc., thus the pressure is on.
i dnt kno wat happens outside bt in india oh yaa definitely. i regularly come to kno , dat so n so got some hug e salary , big house n gr88 car.. so n so went off to work in US/UK/..... n now a very successful person.how cn u show ur face to ppl who r successful..n my answer always remain i m happy n relaxed the way i m .. few days bac some1 from my neighbourhood told me " only ppl who get low percentages get admitted to catering technology n hotel management." i ws shocked , how marks can determine ur interest? like it cn b a 50% marks holder student who is actually in love with human body , biology , study related to medicine.. and a 90% holder love to study history.. bt here in India u will never see the 50% who is madly in love with bio , gets to becum doctor, n the 90% gets to study history.. becoz wen the 50% marks holder goes for entrance he/she is kicked out. n 90% holders parents n external perssure doesnt allow or infact he/she also dnt hav the guts to break rules n go for history..dats how engineers , doctors, lawyers, teachers, get into those profession dat they never wanted to b.frustrated , depressed and sad forever ,even aftr earning loads.
When she would reply 'No' to that, then they would go 'Ohh, Ok' in disappointment and sigh. Why is it like this? Can one only be satisfied and respected with a degree in Biology or Law?

my very close frnd , who is very much into drawing n painting n fashion wanted to take up fashion design as her higher studies.. bt sadly her parents forced her to take up engineering..coz her father was afraid dat ppl will say " ohh so n so run away to FD from science becoz she cudnt cope up " she ahtes civil subjects n now aftr 4 yr of studying engg , she still yearns for painting n fashion" she cried watching the movie .. farhans case ws shown on the movie to inspire , bt wonder wat cn the inspiration really turn things ?

bt wat is success? why the mindset is such dat money, power n property proves how much successful one is? i ws so glad dat this ws also shown in 3 idiots. how chatur aka silencer shows the pic of bunglow , car etc etc.. i sincerely believe successful means being happy.happiness comes wen u can do dat work which givs u happiness n feeling of satisfaction.. even the struggle to do dat also doesnt seem painful, if u cn do wat u want to do.
And sadly so many people are like that...

and dats why we see around ppl who say " aah , i m such a failure in life even aftr living in bunglow n having 5 cars "

Sharman was just purely amazing and at par with others in his scenes, be it him tearing up and being emotional or the job interview. It's true how many of us are afraid and end up being superstitious besides actually making use of our time. I have been thru it and done it.

ohh offcourse this is soo true frustration , depression , tension , being afraid of being a faliure , kills u. we cant even concentrate on studying thinking abt " oh god if i dnt get the job ??" or "if i fail" i hv been facing this for last 6 months

Rancho...my words won't do justice if I describe him. His infamous 'Aal izz well' statment, innocence, charm inspired me. Not once did I find him preachy, but yes, it made me ponder about our education system and with what I want in life.

aamir made the role immortal.i dnt kno some ppl will say he hs done much better roles n acting bt i feel ppl tend to overlook dat acting in a role where u giv happiness n inspire ppl around is as tough as well better say much tougher dan the scenes were u need to cry or fight with or u r shown in depressive mood. why i feel we need a rancho in our lives to show us the path n giv happiness to us.rancho was the symbol of some1 who wil rescue u from any kind of problem, n bring smile n happiness in ur life.

Piya, Virus, Silencer, Millimeter were amazing too. I want to write about them too, but before that I must watch the movie again.

Like most, I am speechless!!
Speechless in the effect that ONLY an AAMIR Khan movie can have on me.
I remember seeing Lagaan & going.......speech-less!!
Watching the intense movie called Rang De Basanti & losing my speech again.
Yet again watching Taare Zameen Par....& now...Now Three idiots!!
ONLY when I think AK has given his best, yet comes another Mind blowing movie with yet another mind blowing performance by him!
Is it just me, or do you all feel that EVERY actor gives their best when they work with Aamir.
The Movie is simply beautiful. Everything in there works...the story, the message...the music....the songs...& HOW!

The beautiful Yet subtle message is for all to absorb......Love Love Rancho & want to stretch my hand & say out loud..."ALL IZZ WELL"!!!!!
