When Saif got married to Amrita, she was already an established actress having worked with all the big names while Saif was a struggling actor with flops to his name. While Saif came from a named lineage, it did nothing for him filmwise.Amrita also comes from a very well connected family. Her mother's side of the family is very close to the Gandhi family.

Marriage to her got him in the right circles and a few roles. It also helped to improve his image somewhat although it was still marred by affairs and brawls. Most of you are too young to remember, it happened ages ago but Saif was involved in many bar brawls and was seen as very unruly when he first started his career. Infact Kajol and he were to debut together but his behaviour was so atrocious that he got thrown out and was replaced by Kamal Sadanah.

Marriage to Amrita changed his image somewhat. WIth fatherhood, he gained respectability. Infact he was jobless for many years and Amrita supported him for most of their marriage. When things started getting good for him, he did not waste much time dumping the wife and moving on to "greener pastures".

Yes, I agree with Desigal that Amrita was immature to have married him. She should have realized that he was using her. As for him, I think it was a calculative move to buy himself time in bollywood. I am glad that the marriage is over. It was a farce and there were always stories of Saif's affairs with some starlet or other.

I think things are different with Kareena because both are on an equal footing and no one is obliging the other. Hopefully it will last, for Kareena's sake.

I also wanan applaud Troy for the way that respone was put down. No antagonizing, no demeaning, just stated a point of view without getting personal. It was very nicely put indeed.
