Wanted movie review: Salman Khan is back with a bang

Prabhu Deva's directorial debut 'Wanted' released today. Most Wanted Bollywood actor Salman Khan is once again ready to rule the hearts of millions of his fans.

Salman Khan has played the character of Radhe—a hardcore gangster or you can say a contract killer who kills anyone for money.

The action lovers could spend money for Wanted. Wanted is the Hindi remake of Telugu film 'Pokhiri'.

The movie begins with Radhe (Salman Khan) is a contract killer and roams around with his friends. Radhe falls in love with Ayesha Takia (Janhvi). Mahesh Manjrekar, who plays a character of cop Talpade has also an eye on Janhvi.

Prakash Raj has played the role of Gani—Radhe's boss who operates from abroad. He comes to India to kill a minister. But before they execute their plan the minister is killed.

As usual old Bollywood recipe. You have reason to watch the movie 'Wanted' is Bollywood machoman Salman Khan and his actions.

Movie Review:
Radhe (Salman Khan) is one of the wheels of the mafias, but with a difference. He is a trained street fighter and shooter who is totally fearless. A man who can keep his cool, in a situation where death itself is looking at him in the eye. He is rebellious and loves to defy authority. He cannot think of being in any other position but the leader's, always fighting his way to impossible goals. He works for Ganibhai, the most dreaded Mafioso, but on his own terms.

Mafia Don Ganibhai (Prakash Raj) has a great mind for strategy, which is razor sharp. He stays in a foreign country but comes to India whenever the need arises. He is revered and feared by friends and foes alike. Ganibhai is the worst enemy anyone could wish for. He is vindictive to the point of being sadistic. He will not only destroy his enemy but wipe him off completely.

Radhe is in love with a girl named Jhanvi (Ayesha Takia). They share a strange love hate relationship. Jhanvi tries to change him by imploring him to leave the world of crime, but Radhe, though he loves her, is too hardcore a criminal to adhere to her wishes.

Radhe moves ahead in his criminal world by single handedly eliminating Ganibhai's enemies with his wit, grit and fearless strategy. A time comes when Ganibhai, whom Radhe has never seen arrives in India specially to meet him. He then offers Radhe a job, which Radhe for the first time refuses point blank, in return making Ganibhai his biggest enemy. Then comes the surprise element of the story, a twist that changes the very premise on which the story is based on. A shocking twist that makes Radhe - WANTED by the mafia and by the law.

Wanted May Be Salman Khan's Best Ever

Salman Khan has been hammered these last few years for mediocre performances in a myriad of romantic comedic roles. The highly anticipated Wanted may finally silence critics if the rave reviews are accurate. Khan, who is supported by the lovely Ayesha Takia in Wanted, plays a blood thirsty gangsta in this remake upon a remake of an action thriller. This latest in a long line of Eros Entertainment releases promises audiences the Salman Khan they love best, and the reviews so far say it is no lie.

wanted galWanted is based on a previous film entitled Pokiri, which was in turn a remake of earlier variant of the same name. The Hindi version is produced by Boney Kapoor, who made such films as Milenge Milenge (2006), No Entry (2005), and Khushi (2003) among many others. As for Salman, he plays the ever predictable anit-hero, sniper, tough guy with principles who falls in love with the films most lovely eye candy. Though the plot is predictable (as all action dramas are), the reviews reveal Khan in action sequences at his very best.

These kinds of films are made for pure entertainment value any way, so no one expects Khan to get an Oscar here. However, as anyone knows the director (in this case Prabhu Deva) either makes or breaks a film in this genre. From Deva's award winning list of accomplishments, it is fairly easy to see why Khan's efforts may have been elevated. Good acting is more than a good actor, it is the direction of that talent, and Khan's notoriety has probably been his own worst enemy as far as being directed is concerned. Just like Hollywood celebs, Khan may not have had the best direction these last years because none were strong enough to overcome his celebrity (or ego).

All the reviews predict Wanted to be a smash hit, and with the excellent cast, production crew, the vast Eros Entertainment resources, and direction of Prabhu Deva, who am I to second guess? Wanted hits the cinemas today, so catch it if you are a Salman Khan fan, or if you are having action withdrawal symptoms. Check out the videos of this super cool Hindi release.

Wanted

Avijit Ghosh , TNN 18 September 2009, 09:30pm IST

Film: Wanted (Action)
Cast: Salman Khan, Ayesha Takia, Vinod Khanna, Prakash Raj, Mahesh Manjrekar
Director: Prabhu Deva
Duration: Two hours and 30 min
Critic's Rating: **** :D

Brawn is back. So is Salman Khan. Rattled by a barrage of recent flops (Yuvvraaj, God Tussi Great Ho, Hello, Heroes), the actor appeared in dozens of television shows in the past few weeks hoping to stay alive in the viewer's mindspace.

He even went around a Delhi football stadium waving at crowds. He needn't have. In Wanted, the remake of a superhit Telugu film (also made in Tamil), Salman is like a force of nature. Unstoppable. Unbreakable. Unbeatable. As a trigger-happy criminal, he enthrals. As a deadpan lover, who gets to deliver some of the cleverest lines in recent Bollywood films, he amuses in equal measure. He does what only the most charismatic stars do: make an ordinary frame worth watching by sheer presence.

Salman plays a criminal named Radhey who is willing to kill without fear and without hesitation for money, the sort of guy of whom even the heroine says, "Gundon se zyada mujhe tumse dar lagta hai". The movie is an engrossing yarn of crooked cops, double-crossing villains and a love track - all told at a breathless pace. There's suspense too.

Director Prabhu Deva deftly manages to weave in the smaller narratives without losing control over the main story. Wanted is really about style. Smartly lensed, the movie has riveting fight sequences by action director Vijayan. Shiraj Ahmed's dialogues -- Bahut ghoor raha hai. Apni bahen ki shaadi karaega - are sure to induce plenty of seetis and taalis in single-screen theatres. The movie has some great songs too, including a super duet (Tum jaan jaan kehke meri jaan le gaye) and a track that DJs might adore, Mera hi jalwa. Deva gets uniform good work from the entire supporting cast: villain Prakash Raj makes you laugh without losing his mean streak. And Mahesh Manjrekar is a scene-stealer as the crooked cop.

In the recent past, Bollywood's action heroes seemed to have lost faith in the genre they once excelled in. Guys like Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgun abandoned their fists of fury and reinvented themselves as lover boys and comics. Other men of meat and muscle, Sunny Deol for instance, went out of the frame because they couldn't adjust to the changing public tastes.

But late last year, the winds of change could be felt as six-pack Aamir Khan's violent Ghajini became a blockbuster. Now with Wanted, the knuckle-crushing action flick roars back in an improved avtaar. In Bollywood, men are back.

Review: With 'Wanted', Salman finally breaks the BO jinx!
Updated on Friday, September 18, 2009, 20:06 IST
Spicezee Bureau

Down and out by a dozen of flops, its payback time for Salman Khan as his latest release 'Wanted' proves to be the Box Office cash cow! He may not be the eternal lover boy as SRK or the avant garde maverick actor Aamir, yet, when it comes to Salman, the actor enjoys a humongous fan base. As it is often said, form is temporary but class is permanent, Salman has once again proved that a few duds cannot mar his acting prowess. Prabhu Deva directed 'Wanted' ensures Bollywood's favourite bad boy is back with a vengeance.

'Wanted' is the typical Bollywood potboiler complete with song and dance sequence, butt kicking scenes, gang wars, love story et al that makes the movie a complete entertaining package. Starring Salman Khan, Ayesha Takia, Prakash Raj and Mahesh Manjerekar, 'Wanted' is a movie that comes with perfect cinematic ingredients.

'Wanted' is the story of a sharpshooter Radhe (Salman Khan) who works for dreaded Gani Bhai (Prakash Raj). Working on his own terms, Radhe loves spilling blood and kicking butt. With a penchant for kill, bad boy Radhe is feared name in the underworld who single handedly wipes off Gani Bhai's enemies.

However, Radhe is not all about whipping baddies as our hero has an emotional side too. He is simply bowled over when a beautiful Jahnvi (Ayesha Takia) professes her love for him. However, like all typical Bollywood masala flicks, there is a twist; with lecherous inspector Talpade (Mahesh Manjerakar) longing for Jahnvi, the bad cop is oblivious of Jahnvi's true feelings for Radhe.

A successful remake of 'Pokhiri', 'Wanted' is just what 'Ghajini' was for Aamir Khan. The movie showcases a fit and fresh Salman in a super cool avatar. Whether its dance numbers or kicking some serious butt, a suave Salman does it all!

With some great acting by Salman, Ayesha and Mahesh, 'Wanted' is backed by Prabhudeva's amazing choreography that makes Salman jive like never before! Yet, with too many songs, a few numbers could have been avoidable; nonetheless, the music is quite groovy.

'Wanted' is a complete paisa vasool that offer comes with a convincing script, great acting skills, cool item numbers and adrenaline pumping stunts. The movie is not at all pretentious and a complete entertainer. I'm sure Salman's fans have a reason to cheer.

Ratings: Four cheers for this one!
