Big B fumes over 'Delhi-6' reviews

Sunday, February 22, 2009

Mumbai (PTI): Amitabh Bachchan has hit out at film critics for judging the recently-released 'Delhi 6' and the Oscar-bound 'Slumdog Millionaire' on different yardsticks.

Bachchan said 'Delhi-6' portrays the philosophy that the system needs strength, honesty and needs to look within. "The system...needs strength..needs an honesty... needs to look within... a philosophy, ironically, portrayed so beautifully in 'Delhi-6' and an aspect, so mercilessly criticised in the reviews and opinions," he wrote on his blog.

"Are we being reluctant and fearful then, of looking into the mirror? he asked. The actor said the same "learned critics" had derided those who had expressed negative opinion on 'Slumdog Millionaire', vociferously defending the contents of the film, by arguing, that those who opposed it, did so, because they were reluctant to accept someone who was showing them a mirror.

"So then, metaphorically speaking, or should it rather be, philosophically speaking, what are we saying - 'Slumdog..' is ok and 'Delhi-6' not?" the actor said adding that he was baffled at the reviews given by critics. Taking a dig at critics for the mixed reviews of 'Delhi-6', Bachchan said, "they (critics) are masters of the game. They are trained and knowledged in the job.

Their opinion counts and forms basis of analysis in attracting the customer to the theatre. "So how feasible is their report when their observations differ to such an extreme and large extent?" he asked.

The actor said 'Delhi-6' is a mirror on today's society, its complications and its frailties. It addresses cultures and beliefs, human nature and influences. The mirror to the society is cleverly and even physically demonstrated through the 'mad' baba who maniacally keeps appearing in the streets holding a mirror to the characters of the film.

The black monkey menace has been symbolically taken into the story as being that a hidden black monkey exists within all of us, Bachchan said. On the eve of the release of 'Slumdog Millionaire' in India, Bachchan wrote that the film had received global recognition because it was made by a Westerner.

Why is slumdog Millionaire movie brought in? If critics didn't liked the movie, they didn't.

Yes, I'm sure all the critics are just out to get his son. That's why they're all lying in their reviews.

Big B has lost it...MANY MANY people didn't like the movie, not caz of the content ..but caz of the fact, it was not presented well..seemed like a documentary rather than a movie. And bringing Slumdog in , is not going to help his case caz now he is talking like a complete hypocrit. He is the one who criticized slumdog for showing "real india", so now what is he crying about for D6??
May be he should take his own son's advise, Abhisek once said "critics are also part of the audience, they also buy the ticket..so they have every right to give their opinion" May be Big b can learn thing or two from his own son!

Many people were talking about the climax. People didn't liked the climax, i hope movie do well for sonam sake as she got a lot of praised. There was no need to bring Slumdog Millionaire. THe movies got nomination at the oscars won so many awards at Golden globes and many other. He should wait for the results of box office and then fumes over reviews.

so so sooooo truuee! ROM had soo much scope with all those great performers in his starcast and a fantastic team to assist him plus the support and accolades of the audience due to RDB...he disappointed me big time🥱 n BigB needs to stop taking digs at SM..Danny Boyle maybe a westerner but he has a certain knack of depicting the story of a rather simple plot which ROM certainly never displayed, eventhough he had all those great ideas in his mind!! Sopt acting like a lil kid, BigB

i had great expectations from this one , music was great..cast looked fresh..! They could have had classic if they just put little extra work in it.
i can't believe Abhisek didn't even try to learn American accents which is soooo NOT hard. Actors nowdays are going over and beyong to prepare for their charecters. Someone is making six packs or ten packs, or other is learning Urd(which i would think is hard)!
i expected a lot more from ROM!

If Amitabh wants to protect his integrity he should stop figting for his son. I can understand that every parent feels that their kids can never go wrong, but at the age of 30/31, Abhishekh is old enough to fight for himself. There have been so many good movies which have got bad reviews from critics, has he ever spoken for those movies?

By continuing to so closely protect and promote Abhishek the one thing he doesnt realise is- he is not giving Abhi the opportunity to step out of his dad's shadow.
