Abhishek Bachchan is anything but reserved while talking about his upcoming movie Delhi 6. When it's pointed out that he is in a rather chatty mood he says, "You think I am being talkative now, do you? Too bad you gotta interview me then." Responding to this comment Bachchan jr says, "Oh my humour's all intact, I have just been awfully quiet, haven't I?" A talkative Bachchan is going to be a delight especially in this case as chances of him opening up about his alleged heated arguments with the film's director are high.
Delhi 6 is supposed to be a semi-autobiographical piece of the director Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra. Since this is so clearly Mehra's story and vision did Abhishek find his director too emotionally involved with the project?
"As an actor if you start relating to or identifying with every character you play, you will develop multiple personalities," he laughs. "I didn't have to relate to the character, I just had to play it and play it well. Yes I was playing Rakeysh Mehra's vision of the role and since he knew exactly where he was getting at, it made it easier. And I like directors who are passionate about their films, because only then does it translate onto the camera," he adds.
But there were talks about heated arguments and clashes with the director as Abhi often made suggestions, which the director didn't take too kindly. To this the actor cleverly answers, "I think discussions are good, arguments are when two people are talking but none's listening." He continues, "I don't think we had arguments, and the heated bit can be attributed to the weather in Jaipur where we shot the film. But after all these years in the industry I think I know my job a bit, and am allowed to give suggestions if I think they will help the film. I don't think anyone objects to that."
After clearing the air he talks about his last much needed hit flick Dostana. Does he feel John Abraham walked away with too much credit thanks to his body display? "Yes you are right, I needed Dostana to be a hit. But then don't you know, I need each of my film to be a hit at any point in time?," he says. "And do you know, I just don't think you can separate the credit for John and me in the film as we were in it together. If we got good reviews or any flak, then we got them together. So if you think he has an amazing body, so do I," says Bachchan.
His body isn't bad either as all the extra kilos have been shed. "That's all thanks to Mani sir, who's made me work like a maniac, and I have obediently followed," says Abhishek .
Mani Ratnam's film will mark Abhi-Ash's return to the big screen. Does working together on a film translate to getting to spend quality time with each other for Abhi-Ash? "Well, we've just gotten married and have constantly been shooting, so cut me some slack," he laughs. "To be honest, I love working with Ash. But it has to be the director's prerogative on who he wants to cast in his film and how convinced he is about having us on board together. We aren't doing films together, just to spend time with each other. As nice as it would be, it would be stupid to do so," he declares.
This is Abhishek at his mature best, where has the wild boy gone? "Define wild," he retorts. Along with films he's mastering the art of being a hit with words too.
