She may not have a great repertoire to boast of, but the dusky actress doesn't let such things bog her down. "Everyone in the industry may not always have a dream career, what is important is to be positive in life and keep trying to give your best," says she. In a chat with NT, she bares her soul, during her recent visit to the city.
Sexy effortlessly
Though the actress wants to do away with the item girl image, she has no qualms about her 'sex symbol' tag and says being sexy comes naturally to her. "I have seen many actresses working hard to get a sexy makeover. I don't want to sound arrogant but I look sexy effortlessly. And I think if people talk about one's sensuality, it should be taken as a compliment. I am not dying to do that nave, girl-next-door-kind of roles, but yes, at the same time I would love to do performance-oriented roles and experiment with varied genres where I get a chance to show my acting prowess. And that's why I just don't want to stick to the 'item girl' image," says Koena.
Forthcoming projects
After Apna Sapna Money Money and a special appearance in Heyy Babyy in 2007, she has just done one film, Anamika the untold story this year. Tell her this and she says, "Well, I have been choosy about roles too and next year you will see me in a number of movies and in a variety of roles. I can't divulge details about them but in the English movie Karna, I play the role of a superwoman. I really had a blast shooting for this film. I had even taken training to get the right British accent. It is a special effects film and will take another year to be released," says she.
'SRK is a charmer'
Going gaga over Shah Rukh Khan, the actress says that she desires to work with her favourite star at least once in her life time. "I am a great fan of King Khan and would love to play the romantic lead opposite him once. He is a charmer and a modern day pied-piper who can make his fans dance to his tunes. I have done few stage shows with him and I was completely bowled over by his charm," says the Bong beauty.
On dream roles and love life
Ask Koena about her dream role and she says that one has to don the cap of a producer to be able to do a dream role. "Only when you are a producer, you can make a dream film for yourself. Otherwise, not all are lucky to get one," she says. Does she nurture any plans of being a producer one day? "Not in next five to six years, but yes, I would really love to produce a film," she informs. Quiz her on her love life and she gets philosophical, "I have often been linked to actors and cricketers, but I am very much single now," and goes on to add, "Love is a beautiful feeling and can happen anytime, anywhere."
