A BAD health bug has hit Bollywood and the stars are falling ill, one after another.

First, it was Saif Ali Khan, who was rushed to hospital in Mumbai last week with chest pains.

Discharged recently, the 36-year-old heavy smoker was told to lay off cigarettes and watch hisdiet.

Then, actor Hrithik Roshan (right) came down with a bout of viral flu.

The Indo-Asian News Service reported that the 32-year-old has been working his fingers to the bone on long film shoots for his latest movie, the historical feature Jodha-Akbar.

He was also rehearsing for the Filmfare Awards show in Mumbai last Saturday, where he danced to a medley of tracks from his films.

'All the time, I had high fever and was keeping it down with paracetamol tablets.

'Today is the first time that I'm resting. Post-Saif, all of us really need to take care of ourselves,' he said.

Hrithik has apparently been giving himself a rare break from his diet and exercise regime.

The body-conscious actor normally works out almost every day, but stopped for a while after Dhoom 2.

However, he started getting into his punishing exercise regime again when his filming schedule became packed with sword-fighting scenes that lasted 20days.

He said: 'All this has taken its toll. I'm completely exhausted and burning with a fever.'

Which is why he's not ready to sign on to another film yet.

'At the moment, I think a break is seriously needed after Jodha-Akbar. We must learn to listen to our body's warning signals,' he said.

SICK AT AWARDS

Also joining the sick club is Dino Morea, who fell ill at the Filmfare Awards.

Indiafm reported that the 32-year-old actor, who is of Indian-Italian descent, was to have been in a promotional skit for his upcoming film, Life Mein Kabhi Kabhi (Sometimes In Life), with co-stars Sammir Dattani and AnjoriAlagh.

Dino said that he had been working the entire day despite having a fever.

'Since I had committed myself to doing the promotional clip and since I didn't want to miss the Filmfare awards, I braved it with my director Vikram Bhatt at the function.

'But soon, my head started throbbing and I felt I'd pass out. That was when I decided to leave.'

Now, he too has jumped on the bandwagon and begun encouraging other stars to slow down.

Like Hrithik, he highlighted the work conditions that actors sometimes have to put up with.

'Look at the work conditions in studios and on location. One could die of anything from contaminated water to mob frenzy.

'Indian actors don't need insurance; they need God's miracle tosurvive.'

BITTER COFFEE, ANYONE?
Some Bollywoodians sure know how to make news even when they aren't making films. Director-producer Karan Johar has just started the new season of his popular chat show, with a bigger bang than he must have expected. First, actor Hrithik Roshan faced some flak for making a friendly dig at the two Aamir and Salman Khan's vertical measurements. Some saw it as Roshan making fun of his seniors. The next show had director, Sanjay Leela Bhansali proclaiming that director Kunal Kohli was the most overrated filmmaker in Bollywood. Everyone knows reactions and counter-reactions can take things to a different level. Lighten up people! While its films seem to be coming of age, Bollywood sure seems to be lagging behind in the humour department.

Hrithik and Kareena in Zoya Akhtar's Kismat Talkies
By IndiaFM News Bureau, October 30, 2006 - 03:50 IST
Hrithik Roshan has started shooting for Ashutosh Gowariker's Jodha-Akbar. And we all know about his 3 film deal with Adlabs. But before the Adlabs film, he will be starting shooting for another film with Zoya Akhtar, sister of Farhan Akhtar. Zoya will finally make her directorial debut with this film titled Kismat Talkies. Kareena Kapoor will play the female lead in this film produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar under their Excel Films banner.

Zoya was to make her debut with a film titled Luck – By Chance in 2004. Unfortunately the film never took off. Finally Kismat Talkies is slated to roll by end of March 2007. The next release of Excel Films is Honeymoon Travel's Pvt Ltd. directed by Farhan's assistant Reema Kagti.

Also here is another exclusive. 2007 will see the acting debut of Farhan Akhtar. "There is one assignment that I'm doing which we had shot about 40 per cent before Don. It is Anand Surapur's The Fakir. It actually was supposed to be complete even before Don had gone on floors. But since the director had some personal issues to deal with, the shooting was stopped for a while. We will start again on November 2 and we are heading to Venice for a month's schedule to finish the film", informs Farhan. Let us wish him all the best for his acting debut. We are sure he can pull off acting as good as he directs films.

A Bright Student But...
Despite his involvement with the film profession, Hrithik, unlike the image one associates with a star-child, was an above-average student with a first-class graduate degree in Economics and Commerce. In fact, this was one of the reasons that reinforced the desire to study film production abroad. And he was even close to executing academic plans, to the point where he took his SAT's and filled in university forms, only to realise that it was escapism to ignore the calling of a hidden but very strong desire. The acting bug had bit. And bit hard... especially during the making of 'Koyla'. Juvenile as it may sound to several, Hrithik, after the day's shoot, found himself, on more than one occasion, enacting before the mirror, scenes that hero Shah Rukh performed in the day. He'd decided showbiz was where he wanted to be.

Got a light, Hrithik?

Hrithik Roshan has always said that he doesn't smoke. Yet, we ran into Kalandar paanwallah near his Juhu residence who told us that Hrithik drops in at his shop for a smoke regularly

Kunal M Shah

Hrithik Roshan

Yesterday we were at a cigarette shop on 12th Road at Juhu, when we stumbled upon a piece of information that really startled us.

The cigarette shop is located just behind Juhu Gymkhana and is in the same lane where superstar and India's superman Hrithik Roshan lives. It's just seven blocks away from Hrithik's house, to be precise. While smoking at the shop, we struck up a casual conversation with Kalandar paanwallah, as he is known, who seemed more than ready to chat with us.

Since he is located in the heart of Juhu, where many of our celebrities live, we casually asked him about his celeb clientele. And he proudly told us something that left us pretty surprised. "Many actors come here, actors like Hrithik Roshan, Fardeen Khan, Dannysaab," he said.

When we corrected him and said that Hrithik does not smoke, the paanwallah became adamant. "Of course, he does," he said. (Yes, despite our surprise, we did remember to push the 'record' button on our Dictaphone and record him.)

Now, we've always known that Hrithik neither smokes nor drinks. And here was Kalandar paanwallah saying that he buys and smokes Benson Lights quite regularly at his shop. The paanwallah, who by now was convinced that we were a couple of die-hard Hrithik fans who had come in the hope of spotting some stars at his shop, really warmed up to us. He went on to describe how Hrithik and his group of friends used to frequent his shop in big groups earlier, but that rarely all come together. Now, apparently, each one comes to his shop separately.

Kalandar Paanwaala

Not so long ago, Hrithik had told a journalist from bharatmatrimony.com, "I drink lots of water and stay away from alcohol and cigarettes. I believe nothing is bad in moderation but things like smoking and drinking are difficult to moderate." So what is Kalandar paanwallah talking about?

The hunk's day out
Sunday, March 11, 2007 06:05:12 pm

Hrithik Roshan: The hunks day out.
Bollywood's latest heart throb and action hero Hrithik Roshan is fighting shy of all the compliments thrown at him post Dhoom 2. We caught the star on his day out

Post Dhoom 2 and several awards later Hrithik Roshan has been basking in the limelight. But the reticent 'Duggu' as he is popularly known isn't really comfortable with compliments like "perfect" and "Greek god" coming his way.

Hrithik decided to spend his Sunday morning by inaugurating a dermo cosmetology clinic at Lilavati Hospital. When asked about what he would like to do with the equipment surrounding him he candidly said, "I think, I should care more about my skin"

So even with a full life that includes fitting into Akbar's shoes among others, guess there's always room for improvement!

Filmi politics

On Monday, SP workers shouted slogans outside Shah Rukh Khan's house. This was against the remarks made about Big B and Amar Singh. When Khan's camp came to know of this, the Congress workers assembled in his favour. Politics it seems has reached Bollywood and Big B is getting isolated.

One can guess the extent to which it has affected the preparation being made for taking Bollywood actors on a world tour. It seems no top actor like Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan and Salman Khan will participate in the Big B world tour.

Hrithik Roshan is a crowd puller. If he does not go then the show is bound to be a flop. Sources say he has refused. The director of Dooms-2's remarks and Bachchan family's reaction has strained the relations.

Rumor has it that Amar Singh met Rakesh Roshan and requested that Hrithik go. But he is joining the world tour organised by Shah Rukh.
