After NNN, YRF rope in Salim-Sulaiman for CDI

Joginder Tuteja, Bollywood Trade News Network

Salim-Sulaiman, the new age tech wizards, composed some peppy tracks for NEAL N NIKKI a couple of years back. Unfortunately, as the movie sunk, so did the music as the songs didn't go an extra distance as is the trend with Yash Raj Films.

The pair has now been repeated again for Yash Raj's upcoming biggie CHAK DE INDIA that stars none less than Shahrukh Khan himself, hence making it one of the biggest projects for Salim-Sulaiman to be associated with.

One expects a rocking situational soundtrack from CDI considering the fact that it is a sport based film which demands an adrenalin rush.

In coming months, Salim Sulaiman would also showcase their tunes for Madhuri Dixit's comeback film AAJA NACHLE, which is a musical.

Association of Yash Raj Films and Salim Sulaiman go a long way. The duo has created background score for number of films coming from the production house like HUM TUM, DHOOM, DHOOM 2 and most recently TA RA RUM PUM.

Om-nipotent!

Om Shanti Om has created a record by being sold in the Mumbai circuit for a whopping Rs 11 crore. Now it had better be a hit, or else

Shah Rukh Khan's Om Shanti Om (OSO) has just become the highest paid for film in the Mumbai circuit. Although the entire rights of the film are with Eros, Baba Films have pitched in for the rights for Mumbai circuit in exchange for a whopping Rs 11 crore. The record was earlier held by Jaan-E-Mann, which was sold in the Mumbai circuit for Rs 8.5 crore.

With a production and distribution house as prolific as Baba Films pitching in for the rights for Mumbai circuit, Om Shanti Om becomes the biggest film in terms of the money offered by distributors. Om Shanti Om has managed to sell for around Rs 75 crore overseas as well. Kishore Lulla's Eros International, listed on AIM - junior LSE, has bagged the worldwide rights for the Khan flick for Rs 72-75 crore.

When asked about the deal in early July, Sunil Lulla of Eros had said in an interview, "I will be in a position to talk to you about the deal only next week." But insiders say the deal has been signed, sealed and is waiting to be delivered.

A still from Om Shanti Om
Coming back to the home front, an industry insider says, "If this deal works out, OSO will become the biggest film ever, especially considering that the film has already had a whopping deal for overseas. Distributors are offering huge amounts. Baba Films have offered an amount which no one can refuse."

Rakesh Upadhyay, executive director of Baba Films says, "Yes, we are in talks with Shah Rukh Khan but I can't reveal our financial deal yet. We are definitely interested in the film. The film is releasing during the Diwali period when we can get a clear run due to vacations. Farah Khan had earlier had a huge commercial success with Main Hoon Na. This film also has the same combination (Farah and Shah Rukh Khan). We are confident of the film's success at the box-office."

Not that we can be so sure, given the fate of the earlier record holder, Jaan-E-Mann.

Shah Rukh is smitten by Deepika!
19 Jul 2007, 0000 hrs IST ,TNN
The King Khan is very impressed with new kid on the block Deepika Padukone. And they're in a film together.
King Khan is in great shape these days and too busy and upbeat about his next production venture Om Shanti Om , that'll introduce the sexy model, Deepika Padukone to the film world who has made quite an impression on Shah Rukh Khan. If a unit member is to be believed, Shah Rukh is extremely partial to Deepika. Not that he isn't accessible to others on set. But as long as the other unit members don't seem to mind, and work is going on fine, there is shanti galore on the sets.

Working on being an item boy!

By: Upala KBR and Tushar Joshi
July 19, 2007, mid-day

King Khan has been toning up to go bare-chested in Om Shanti Om

I'm Bringing Sexy Back! Shah Rukh Khan
After Aamir Khan, it's now Shah Rukh Khan's turn to flaunt a six-pack on the big screen. While Aamir will be showing off his bare body in Gajini's remake, SRK will appear as an item boy in a song for Farah Khan's Om Shanti Om, to be shot in August.

Bare minimum

A unit member confirms the developments, saying, "Shah Rukh will be doing an item number in Om Shanti Om bare-chested. He has been growing his hair and building a superfit body for that as it's the last song in the film. He's currently developed 4-pack abs.

Once he gets his 6-pack, he'll start shooting in August. Farah has given him a superb look. It will be a huge set constructed in Film City by Saboo Cyril. The song is called Darde disco, composed by Vishal-Shekhar, and is a rocking dance number."

This will be the first time Shah Rukh will be seen with a completely bare torso. Reveals the source, "SRK had promised Farah three years ago that if he ever went bare-chested for a movie, it would be for her film. This new look that SRK is sporting is for that particular song."

Shahi efforts

Shah Rukh says, "I'm just on holiday. I have not cut my hair and have been working out to strengthen my back. Mine is a boring life — no new car, no new pyaar and no new yaar — just chilling with the babies (his children, Aryan and Suhana)!"

Prashant Sawant, Shah Rukh's personal trainer, talks about the work out regimen given to SRK. "Shah Rukh sports a lean, athletic body in Om Shanti Om. I have given him circuit training exercises, which is a series of combination exercises that give instant results."

Shah Rukh is currently working on getting six-pack abs. "He is doing 500 to 600 sets of abdominal crunches and other exercises to get a six pack. He is also following a strict diet," says Sawant.

SRK's routine
One-hour daily workout around midnight. Prashant goes to Mannat, where he trains Shah Rukh.

"He is taking protein shakes and supplements that support his high intensity workout.

He has totally given up on carbs and that is helping him reduce any flab on his body."

In Step: Shah Rukh Khan and Malaika Arora in Kaal

Shah Rukh Khan has earlier featured in the Kaal dhamaal song for Karan Johar's Kaal (directed by Soham), which was a promotional video with Malaika Arora.

Karan had said that the idea of Shah Rukh doing the item number occurred to him after he had gone through a list of item girls.

"I suddenly thought of Shah Rukh Khan as the item boy. I thought, why not? Shah Rukh is the producer, my friend and my brother!" Shah Rukh had co-produced Kaal.

Why Farah is more relaxed for OM SHANTI OM

Shafiq Ahmed at 6:28 am on Tuesday, July 17, 2007

Ace choreographer and director, Farah Khan, is having more fun on the sets of OM SHANTI OM than she had when she made MAIN HOON NA.

Aside from the fun of it, there are two main reasons for Farah's relaxed state of mind. One is the fact that she learned a lot from the making of MAIN HOON NA. As a first time director, she used to get very hyper and agitated whenever problems cropped up. This time around, she has a perspective and knows how important or otherwise a problem is and she can deal with it accordingly.

Secondly, OM SHANTI OM has, as part of its backdrop and settings, two things she is very familiar with. The film industry, which she knows inside out, and the decade of the '70s, her growing up years, not that the movie is set entirely in the '70s! In fact, it spans three decades.

Don Khan's new long-haired look is the talk of the town

Shafiq Ahmed at 8:50 am on Monday, July 16, 2007

Badshah Khan's new long-haired look is the talk of the town, not to mention the lean, super-sculpted bod.
Khantastic times are here again with Shahrukh Khan back in Mumbai after holidaying with his family in London. And he's looking sexier than ever (if that's possible!) . He's 'hair' , there and everywhere!

Badshah Khan's new long-haired look is the talk of the town, not to mention the lean, super-sculpted bod, but then again, when it's Shahrukh, everything about him is newsworthy, isn't it? His smooth tresses are definitely very becoming, adding to his sex appeal and charm.

Dilshad Pastakia, his hairstylist, was in a way responsible for the cool pony-tailed look SRK had sported for a while. He reportedly went on record and said that since Dilshad was on maternity leave with her first born Dalai, he had no choice but to wait till she could cut his hair. That's loyalist Khan for you. She's the lucky lady who gets to run her hands through his smooth, dark hair.

"SRK's long hair currently is not really a look as such. But when it's SRK, I guess it becomes a 'look' . He's just growing it out and it's not for any particular film. When he had the ponytail earlier, he looked fab in it! I don't understand why people think he doesn't change his hairstyle, because he does. He doesn't need to do radical stuff like go blond to look different. He's Shahrukh Khan! Even the smallest change makes a huge difference and becomes the talk of the town, rather world, I should say, because his persona is so powerful. I think long hair suits him as much as any of his other looks have. Everyone's gonna want their hair the SRK way now," says scissor-happy Dilshad.

SRK is clearly and undoubtedly a 'cut' above the rest! Other than creating a different look for himself off screen, SRK's also creating a point of difference in his films. His next release, Chak De India, sees him in a new avtaar - not the romancing SRK we have seen of late, but a driven and passionate coach of a girls' hockey team. Chak De India is releasing in August, just around Independence Day - patriotic fervour at its best - the SRK way.

'SRK's like one of us' Sanah Khan
20 Jul 2007, 0000 hrs IST ,TNN
After creating ripples in a commercial, model Sanah Khan gets to share screen space with Shahrukh Khan.
Until Sanah Khan washed dirty laundry on screen for an ad, she used to be just another face. Today the 19 year old, who has 15 commercials tucked under her trim belt, is one of the most talked about models in Mumbai. Sanah has even shot with none other than Shahrukh Khan for an ad. Was doing the 'brief ' commercial awkward? Sanah says, "When I received the offer, I mentally said 'no' to myself. I imagined it'll have a man in his bare essentials , and would also require me to expose. But when the production team read out the script to me, I felt it'll be a different concept to work on."

Quiz her about the curiosity and controversy the commercial has managed to generate and she says, "It was just a normal ad for me. I didn't expect it to create such a response. I agree, some words do have double meanings in the commercial but they aren't overtly vulgar."

Meanwhile Sanah has already moved on to other interesting projects, one of them being a fairness cream commercial with Shahrukh. "I'm a big SRK fan. He was so nice and down-to-earth . He was just like one of us."

Besides commercials, Sanah's also done an item number in the TV serial Meri Doli Tere Angana. But, she says she's "not interested" in television for now: "It's films that I'm looking at," she says, adding, "Everybody can't be a SRK. Very few people have successfully survived the transition. I don't want to expose myself too much on television before giving films a shot."

Till then, it's modelling all the way. "It'll have to be print and television commercials for me. My height (5.5") is hardly sufficient for me to walk the ramp," says Sanah. The lissome Mumbaikar started working after she completed school. "But it's only after my HSC that I made a serious attempt to improve my style and look good." So, are her parents happy with her choice? "Oh, they are most supportive. Even my friends get excited every time they either see me on TV or read my interviews," laughs Sanah. Way to go girl!

Shah Rukh gets 'shaadi' proposals
Omar Qureshi/Indiatimes Movies
Shah Rukh Khan does nothing in half measures. It's all or nothing for this type-A personality. He works 18 hour days ... and then some! And when he works, its all work. And when he's on vacation (like currently in London with family) he says 'No work meetings please!' When SRK 'goes to the mattresses' it's indeed war and when he calls someone a friend he supports them through anything. He was the first Indian actor to model for a Lux bar (second in the world after Paul Newman) and now he'll be the first Indian star to model for a fairness cream. Talk about 'achievers'. He's the first to rope in 30 top stars for one song in his Om Shanti Om ; And he stays first among equals to date. Why not? After all, one of Shah Rukh's favourite role models is Genghis Khan! We caught him in a casual mood, inspite of his rushed schedule, on the eve of his departure to London for a holiday – and even then he was doing two shifts!
Hey Shah Rukh, now that the so-called 'war of the wordsworths' between you and Mr Bachchan seems to have lost some simmer, next season, are you planning on inviting him as a celeb guest on your show's second edition, the way he invited you?
"You know, I don't invite anybody. I don't get to invite anybody. The producers do. Whoever they feel they should, they invite. Once the invitation goes out; and if they happen to be from the same fraternity and I know them, then, out of courtesy, I make a call to welcome them. But I don't invite anyone."

Just curiosity, but what had sparked the speculation? Your doing Don first or KBC ?
"I do lots of films. I don't do it for speculation. I did Don for Farhan. I did it because I wanted to do it. There are many remakes done, except that they're not 'legal' remakes. I don't know why this speculation. I guess it's just an interesting episode for everyone to write on. It's an episode being made into a story – so be it. I've done it and I'll continue to do so. If there's some other remake of a film, I'll do it. I don't do a film for any other reason other than to entertain people."
Meaning it's true that you're going to produce Don 2 as well?
"No! I don't know whether I'll be acting in it. We don't have a story for it. Farhan is going to work out something. We're in no hurry and it will take a long time even if we decide on doing it. So we'll have to wait."

More buzz. We hear that you may be doing Dhoom 3 with Aishwarya?
"No I've not been offered Dhoom 3 by Adi (Aditya Chopra) ... and I meet Adi every third day. And I don't think he would mention it to anyone else before mentioning it to me. I don't even know whether it's been made."

Rumouredly, on the sets of your show, many women had proposed to you, saying that your religion allows you to remarry? Post KANK, were you tempted?
"Look, the whole idea of hosting the show was fun and jokes; and I allowed everyone to have fun at my expense. I'm open enough to let girls of 21, 22, propose to me – it's where they want to say something and they get a chance. So they joke and fool and I go along. They don't mean that seriously. And I know that because I have a sense of humour."
Your focus has been your home (production) with Om Shanti Om ; familiar faces – Farah, Arjun. A more comfortable zone?
"Frankly, I'm comfortable making a film wherever I am. Om Shanti Om is a big production and Farah is at the helm. In any case, I don't like working in isolation. For me, I get comfortable with everyone on all my sets. Most directors are like family to me. It was as cool for me working in KANK as in Don and the rest of my films. In India we are like that only. For us our work environment is like family. Otherwise, a film is a film and you have to go and make it. If the environment is light it's very good. I normally don't work in films where the environment is not light. There's nothing different with Om Shanti Om as far as my work is concerned."

Your new heroine Deepika Padukone is ready for a big arrival and is already being touted as the next Aishwarya Rai?
"I don't know whether she'll be Aishwarya Rai; but Deepika is a very talented actor. Very hardworking, very beautiful. I hope she does well because she's doing her very first film with us, so we feel extra responsible - myself, Farah and the entire production. Especially since she's ace badminton champion Prakash Padukone's daughter; someone I've been a huge fan of. Oh yes, she dances well too. She'll have a good experience working with us. She's very professional - as all models are."

Is it true that Om Shanti Om is a spin-off on Karz ? Aren't you worried that Subhash Ghai will 're-incarnate' himself to stop that?
"You know, we have Subhash Ghai in the film. Because as a tribute we start the film like that; but it's not a spin-off from Karz ."

So what happens to Happy New Year - which Farah was to direct for you earlier?
"The climax was something we couldn't work out intelligently enough. We worked for about six months but we couldn't come to a great ending. Also, the casting hadn't taken place and it was supposed to be shot in America for six months; so I wasn't very keen to go and spend that much time there at one go. However, we'll definitely work on it - maybe later."

At one time there was this intense rivalry with Hrithik but today you are the best of friends?
"I never have intense rivalry with anyone. I have healthy rivalry. I am Shah Rukh Khan. I run my own ways, do things on my terms and live the way I want to; seeking blessings only from Allah. I'm a middle class boy who made it on his own and will keep making it on my own. I have love for everyone. These rivalries are media fads. Sometimes, for 6 to 8 months people write about Salman or Hrithik or Mr Bachchan or Aamir. I wish it were true at times the way it's made to sound, so exciting. But we continue being boringly good to each other."
Have you seen Guru, Salaam–e–Ishq and other recent releases? For 'competitive analysis'?
"I normally don't see films unless I get to see them on the big screen. The last film I saw was Omkara and before that I saw Rang De Basanti . Can you believe I missed Munnabhai until lately? I just don't get time anymore. And you should know that ...!"

We hear that you are greatly inspired by a book on Genghis Khan – the world's greatest 'Alpha Male' with his 'genes' all over the world? For what reason?
"Genghis Khan is fascinating. I actually finished reading a book on him recently and apparently, he was one of the nicest people, unlike what most people think. He was also a great administrator. He was the first guy to teach administration to the world. But because history is written by the victors and not the vanquished, we read it from the side of the Europeans. And that could be lopsided."

You found any similarities with him?
"Well! His Genghis' genes are all over the continents, but this Khan's films are all over the world. It's as sweet a conquest!"

Telugu Star To Take On SRK
T S Sudhir, Tuesday, July 17, 2007: (Hyderabad): NDTVnews

Narayanamurthy is a popular face in Telugu cinema known for his revolutionary brand of films that tilt towards leftist ideology is a huge name in Telugu films.

Now he is making his first Hindi film Yeh dharti hamaari that is a remake of his 1994 Telugu superhit, Erra Sainyam or Red Army.

"My subject is linked to human emotions. Like Dilip Kumar's Ganga Jamuna, Amitabh Bachchan's Ganga ki Saugandh and Mother India. My subject is how rural innocent people are feeling, how they are exploited by the non-tribals," said R Narayanamurthy.

Narayanamurthy's film releases on the August 10 and will pit itself against Shah Rukh Khan's Chakde India.

"Shah Rukh Khan is the megastar in India. In Andhra, they call me people's star but I know I am a zero in Hindi. But when thousands of people go to see Shah Rukh Khan's film, there will be many who do not get tickets. I hope that overflow will come to my film," Narayanamurthy added.

In an industry, where there are less hits and more misses, 12 of Narayanamurthy's 19 films have been huge hits, raking in the moolah in the B and C centres.

A Khan-dani fan
Sandipan Dalal
TimesNewsNetwok, Wed Jul 18, 2007 4:32 am

Shah Rukh Khan's son Aryan is an ardent Salman Khan fan. He often emulates Sallu Uncle by removing his shirt and flexing his imaginary muscles.
Shah Rukh Khan's nine-year-old son Aryan is a devoted Salman Khan fan. After having idolised Hrithik Roshan for years, Aryan has just woken up to Sallu's muscle flexing and shirtless ways.

If sources are to be believed, Aryan even wants to hit the gym to acquire washboard abs like Salman. The celebrity kid watched a few films starring Salman during his vacation and has been asking for more ever since. Says a source close to Shah Rukh, "Aryan is extremely fond of Salman. He is literally worshipping Salman these days." Whenever daddy Shah Rukh is at home, a playful Aryan pulls out his shirt and proudly declares, "Don't I look like Salman, daddy?"

In several interviews in the past, Khan has admitted that his kids idolise Hrithik Roshan. However , Aryan has just moved on to Salman, and he has already voiced out his choice to Shah Rukh's close friends. An actor, on condition of anonymity, says, "Shah Rukh and I had a great laugh the other day. Aryan simply adores Salman and wants to be like him. Salman is very popular among all celebrity kids, including his own nephews Arhaan (Arbaaz Khan's son) and Nirvaan (Sohail Khan's son)."

More recently, on a long flight to London a playful Aryan was seen exploring adjacent vacant seats and loitering around. Finally a purser asked him to go back to mommy Gauri and remain in his seat. At which Aryan suddenly rolled up his sleeves, flexed his muscles and said, "But I look like Salman Khan!"

Later, he kept calling for the flight attendant and demanded toffees. According to an eyewitness , "Aryan is a very active kid and he didn't like it when he was asked to sit still. He told the flight attendant that he resembled Salman Khan and kept asking for toffees."
