Don't think it is an issue. For most people, their subconscious first choice is usually someone from their own community with similar socio-cultural background. However, I can see the statement being off-putting to be aired on TV

I agree. Although watching the whole segment again, Shilpa said it was her friend who thought that they should be matched because they are both from UP and brahmins. It is her friend's thinking and not necessarily hers.

Didn't she tell earlier they were set up by a mutual friend, who found too many similarities in them and thought they were compatible for each other.
There is nothing wrong in preferring a spouse from same religion/caste, it will be easy for them to understand adjust to each other's lifestyles.

From what I heard, she said the friend wanted to hook them up because of many similarities which includes them being Brahmins. So I highly doubt that was the only reason for them to get married. It is rather silly to think they got married since they both were Brahmins. Being Brahmins seem more of a Cherry-on-the-Cake situation here.

LOL GG 😆😆

On topic - whats wrong if she said that? I am Brahmin, been in NY my whole life and would prefer marrying a Brahmin too. It's not a 'village' mentality nor is it that I look down upon other castes, it's just a preference. It's easier for the families too.

That being said, my sister didn't even marry an Indian.

GG 🤗 I love your DP...

Her statement reminds me of this friend of mine... He's a brahmiin too, and has been living with his GF for the past 4-5yrs. His mom has no issues with him living with her but wants him to marry a brahmin girl. Everytime his mom says that, he tell her to shut up and mind her business... I guess it's a very invidual thingy and not dependent on what community you are born into. Despite how you are raised, everyone develops their own preferences as they grow up.

I think there is nothing wrong if she said that. Not a big deal. People often look for similar background for a match.

Yeap... every time I meet another Sharma, i say 'yay, you're a sharma too' 😆....

We are living in an age where people get offended by the slightest of things, this thread being a fine example.
