My bad if Hindi is not the national language. I was under the impression that it was. So is Hindi a regional language like the rest. And is there a national language, if so, what is it?

I think "possessive" is the wrong choice of words as it can imply that Gujaratis are overprotective, controlling and dominating, although I know that that is not what you mean. 😊

India has no national language. The official languages of the Union Government of Republic of India are Hindi in the Devanagari script and English.
