I first noticed him being called that during lambs vs arya task, I assumed he donned avataar of pundit so the name stuck till now

He is a Kashmiri Pandit/brahmin, that is why.

In detail explained :

he is called Pandit , because he is talking about a lot of knowledge/gyan related stuff in early week.
(and Pandit literally means one who is full of excess knowledge)

(and it is also true Brahmins are also called Pandit because they have lots of brain and knowledge but I can tell you following:)
Praneet is not Brahmin, that I can tell you by his last name.
