The three important people would be Ratan, Balwant and Patta of course. Loved Ratan's dialogues and Pratap's apology / confession. Ratan is like a little monkey so she is comfortable in the trees.
Chapter 56
The garden had changed into a court scene - sitting right in the middle on a raised platform were the three jury members - Patta, Balwant and Ratan surrounded by members of the Vanar Sena while the Pratap and Chakrapani stood in the middle facing the jury. Ajabde and Subhagyawati were enjoying the proceedings from the balcony where even JB had joined them
Rawatji was checking out security details at the check-posts recently made to keep an eye out for tress passers so he was missing from the proceedings
All the hearing had been done and all that was left was the decision - Patta and Balwant were convinced that both Pratap and Chakrapani would take really good care of their sisters but the final say was left with Ratan who was dead silent - her tiny little brain was trying to figure out what to do so she saw Pratap and then her sister and then Pratap again. With finality in her voice she said
NO and ran from there - well she climbed the tree and hopped from the branches and made her way out of the gardens leaving behind a highly stunned audience. Ajabde knew the reason for Ratan's refusal very well and she also knew that her husband had to talk to her sister but for that he needed to catch her first
Ratan ran all the way to the field where soldiers were training when she saw Rawatji talking to some men so she went to him
Ratan: Mamasa is it alright if I stay here with you?
Rawatji: Of course my child but why were you running?
Ratan: so that Jijusa cannot catch me (makes an adorable face)
Rawatji looks at her confused so she continues unaware that Pratap had caught up to them
Ratan: He wants to take Jija back to Chittor which is a really good thing but that means I will be left here without her! I cannot lose her Mamasa she is the only parent I have - she is the only parent the three of us have and we know Jijusa loves her and will take really good care of her and protect her better than the three of us combined but she is my parent and I don't want to lose her - her tiny framed dropped down with the burden of the reality she faced
Pratap had an inkling of Ratan's dilemma so he had come well prepared for it - in one scoop he picked Ratan up like a monkey and walked off while she said: Help me Mamasa Jijusa is kidnapping me!!! Don't let him near Jija and my sweets...
Pratap placed her down in front of her favourite tree and looked at her: Will you please tell me what is troubling you now Ratan?
Ratan: Nothing
Pratap: Why do you not want me take your Jija with me back to Chittor? She kept silent but seeing him patiently wait for her response she blurted everything out
Ratan: Because that would leave me behind all alone here - it is not only Ajabde Jija leaving you know even Subho Jija will go then who will take care of me? I may be a strong warrior but am still a 5year old you know and I need someone to take care of me. Both Dada Bhai Patta and Balwant are leaving for Gurukul to take training and education in warfare there will be no one left for me - everyone is leaving me behind so I cannot let you take my Jija away from me - she hung her head low as if accepting some big crime
Pratap rubbed her head: Did you honestly think that Ajabde or even I for that matter would leave you behind?
She looked at him in surprise: Everyone was talking about how everyone would leave Bijolia even Kakisa was being all sentimental about it
Pratap: Because we told her that you are coming with us to Chittor. Ratan Punwar you are the most amazing person I have had the privilege of meeting and I'm not going to leave my secret weapon behind now would I?
Ratan: Secret weapon?
Chakri enters the scene: Yes Rajkumarisa you are our secret weapon as you have helped us a lot in impressing you sisters so we need you to come with us so that
Ratan: I can help you when you mess up which is going to be a lot!!!
Pratap and Chakri both smile while the little girl sees her sister and runs to her
Jija Jija did you hear I get to come with you to Chittor
Ajabde hugged her sister and tenderly moved her fingers over her face: Of course you are coming with me. There was no way I was going to leave you behind now and I just heard Mamasa might have a present for you
Ratan: Present? I love presents...Mamasa!!!
She runs off to try and find Rawatji while Chakri also goes leaving behind Pratap and Ajabde.
Pratap: she looks happy
Ajabde: she is a happy child Kunwar Pratap. It takes a really hard hitting thing to make her sad and even then she would be down for an hour and then back at her old self
Pratap: Then I must be a happy person to have her in life after all that has happened I need someone like her - watches Ratan jump up and down in happiness as Rawatji informs her about her training that would take place in Chittor
Ajabde: It all seems like a dream you know. Maa rarely spoke after Daata but sometimes she would speak and tell us that one day when the truth will be out that you would come back to Bijolia and make everything alright
Pratap looks at his wife - it was the first time she spoke of her deceased parents. Ajabde continued: she stopped living after Daata - she only survived because of Ratan because she was the last gift Daata gave her which is the reason that everyone here dotes on her so much. The one thing we do is keep her in the loop even though she has restrictions but by involving her she learns and then she responds to the situation as an adult and then she will turn into a kid reminding us all that she is a 5 year old who loves sweets and hanging on branches
Pratap: Well it is a good thing that the room I prepared for her is surrounded by trees
Both of them watch as Ratan hugs her Mamasa and runs off to tell everyone about her news
Chapter 57
Pratap had never seen Ratan so scared and nervous at the same time - she was dressed beautifully in a simple dress with less jewellery as she did not like wearing those huge manacles around her neck clutching his little finger tightly as they both walked towards the stable
The Gauna ceremony for the both the couples took place with a huge celebration in Bijolia and they had arrived in Chittor a day before where a huge welcome was prepared for them - the entire kingdom was celebrating as Chittor's daughter-in-law had arrived and Kunwar Pratap's coronation was also set to take place
It was the morning of coronation and everyone was busy with preparation as he walked down the corridor he found Ratan watching everything apprehensively from the corner so he took her with him to the stable
Pratap: Ratan why are you scared?
Ratan: Because it is a very scary thing
Pratap: What is a scary thing?
Ratan: Everyone here is so guarded and you are going to be Rana now that means I'm sister-in-law of the Rana which in turn means that people will have expectations from me to behave like a princess which I don't know how to do and if I learn to be a princess then I'm scared that I will forget my real self
Pratap: Ratan Punwar you do not have to learn to be a princess you are a born princess just be the way you are - I know there are going to be moments where you will have to follow certain rules but that does not mean you cannot do what you love the rest of the time
Ratan: So I can climb and hang out in the trees without having guards running around me like I'm crazy
Pratap: You are crazy but good crazy
Ratan: You sure know how to calm me down Jijusa...come let's go before Chetak becomes angry again like last time
Pratap had returned to his room to find his wife getting ready for the ceremony she was all-ready except she still had to put on her anklets but before she could pick them up Pratap took them and helped her with them - tenderly her placed both the anklets in her feet one by one sneaking glances at her - she was blushing due to his sweet gestures and then it was like an electric current ran through their bodies he came closer to her drinking her very essence while she tried looking away from his intense gaze - both of them were breathing heavily as he came closer to her with mere inches left between them just a little more and their lips would be on each other when a servant knocks breaking the moment - Ajabde shies away bit Pratap kisses her forehead and leaves for the ceremony
The coronation ceremony went smoothly without any fuss making Pratap the new Rana of Mewar and Ajabde took on her role as Maharani of Mewar while Jaiwanta Baiji became the Rajmata
That night when everyone had retired to their rooms Pratap came to his to find Ajabde humming a lullaby to Ratan who was holding her in a death-grip. Ajabde saw him and gave him a gentle smile
Ajabde: she had a bad dream so came here I hope it is not a problem
Pratap: not at all - did she tell you about the dream?
Ajabde: She found herself trapped unable to get out of a ditch covered in thorns and that the tree branch she tried getting on broke down
Pratap: she sure gets some bad dreams - he lies besides the little girl and rubs her hair when his hand touches his wife who does not react but that night both of them slept with their hands entwined on the chest of a 5year old who dreamt about jumping from branches along-side monkeys
Epilogue
Ratan: 7yrs old: Amar is born
Ratan was worried because it had been hours already since her Jija was taken into the birthing chambers, her Jijusa was pacing outside and Chakri Jijusa was with him while Subho Jija was helping Jaiwanta Baiji with Ajabde Jija's delivery. A moment later a woman came out and rang the bells (plate actually) signalling the birth of a baby boy - Ratan ran in to see her Jija holding a very tiny baby wrapped in huge clothes
Ratan: he is so tiny Jija
Everyone smiles
JB: Of course he is - now he will grow up to be a strong warrior
Ratan stares at the baby: Hi baby I'm Ratan and I'm going to teach you the cool stuff you know from getting sweets from the kitchen to hanging on tree branches, picking the best mangoes and freeing all caged animals and so much more
Ajabde: Of course he will learn all the crazy stuff from you huh Ratan
Ratan: Yup because you will be there to teach both of us the sane things
Ratan: 14yrs, Amar: 7yrs
The guard looked up and down scanning every nook and corner of the room trying to figure out how did the animals got free when a tree branch swayed distracting him- thinking of it as the wind he disregarded it which was a major fault as Amar Singh held on to the branch while his Mosisa Ratan was on to another one as she freed yet another one of the caged birds
Amar had learned a great deal from Ratan - he knew how to break into closed rooms without leaving a trace behind, he could successfully climb trees, ride horses (well it was because of his father) and many other crazy things which sometimes got him into trouble but it was all worth it. Both of them returned to the castle where everyone was waiting for them as someone had already informed his mother about the released animals
Ajabde knew her sister and son were a troublesome pair both of them doing things everyone tried to shy away from- she had done everything in her power to try to get their attentions elsewhere but failed and now both of them had a gang- including Subho's twin boys - Ratan was the leader followed by Amar then came Subho's twins - Ajay and Ajeet then was Chandan - her son's best friend
She stared at the group of children all standing straight well everyone was hiding behind Ratan and Amar and even Amar was a bit covered by her sister
Ratan: Jija what a pleasant surprise we were all just playing you know
Ajabde: Playing or releasing animals?
Everyone stares at her and then
Amar: Maa they were keeping them caged and animals are not supposed to be kept in cages
Everyone chimes in: They are supposed to roam freely in the grounds and fly high in the sky
Ajabde: Yes I have heard that before as well but your doings caused financial problems for the man whom the animals belonged to - he was taking them to the Mela where he intended to sell them so that he could feed his family
All the kids look down when Ratan says: We will go and help him Jija we won't cause any troubles for anyone.
Come let's go and help him- they all run while Ajabde smiles at their retreating forms
That night her husband found her staring at the night sky
Pratap: So I heard our children freed some animals today
Ajabde: When have they not done that Ranaji - your kids take after you even Ratan takes after you- you changed her she teased
Pratap: Well that is a good thing- he holds her by the waist when they see all the kids coming back from somewhere all dirty and bloodied
Ajabde and Pratap stare at each other and they leave to check them
Both of them did not know whether to be proud or scold the gang of children standing in front of them even Ratan had hurt herself badly
Amar: But Daajiraj it was their fault they were hurting and creating unnecessary troubles so we just
Ajeet: Yes Ranaji we just distracted them while Bhai Ajay and Rajkumarisa helped the people out
They all nod their heads when Ajabde speaks up
Ajabde: You should have called an elder to intervene what if something had happened- all of you could have been seriously injured
Amar: Maa they were troubling our people there was no time to call someone and besides that man was taking away Gauri's calf I could not have let him do that
Gauri was the grand-daughter of Purohitji who lost his son in the battlefield and his daughter-in-law passed away after giving birth to Gauri- so she had been brought up in the castle along with the others where Amar developed a strong bond with her - he never let any stranger come near her and always kept an eye out for her which reminded her of her husband's antics and pleased her husband very much while others thought it to be really adorable
Ajabde looked at her husband for some help but he was looking at his son, Ratan and the other with pride shining on his face- Ajabde was caught in between some really stubborn people
She just shook her head and went on to tend to their wounds while they narrated how they managed to defeat a group of 15 grown up men with weapons and fighting experience
Ratan: 18yrs, Amar: 11yrs, Gauri: 9yrs
Pratap was worried he had been since he received the message from a neighbouring kingdom so he decided to speak to his wife who would understand the severity of the situation and help him out
Ajabde: NO
Pratap: But...
Ajabde: Ranaji don't you remember what happened last time when a proposal came for Ratan: the man was scared for his life after the kids were done with him
Pratap: That was funny besides he was an egotistical fool whom I was tolerating because his grand-father had been a great help to me and our kingdom
Ajabde: Now you have another one of those coming in to see Ratan
Pratap: Ajabde that is the thing - Aditya is not a fool and I believe if given the chance he can make a special place in Ratan's life
Ajabde: I don't doubt that at all but the question is who is going to tell her?
Both of them looked at each other with worried eyes
Next morning both of them told Ratan and the others about Aditya's arrival in Chittor excluding the little detail that he was there for Ratan but Amar found out
Amar sat under the huge tree while his horse Toofan grazed the grass nearby as Gauri collected flowers for her puja
Gauri: You have been very silent today is there something troubling you? You could share it with me...if you like
Amar: A prince is coming to Chittor
Gauri: Okay
Amar: He intends on marrying Ratan Mosisa Gauri
Gauri: Ohh and you don't want that?
Amar: I need to be sure that this man is capable of looking after her - she is like an elder sister to me always protecting me, teaching me and being there for me when I found myself all alone. She got Toofan for me and I need to be sure that this man is a good man for her
Gauri: Then test him - create scenarios and see how he fares
Amar: You are right
Gauri: Of course I'm right and now come it is getting late for the puja
Amar: You go I have work to do
Gauri: Okay you will miss out on the laddoos
Amar: You made laddoos? (She nods her head) Wait I'll come as well- things can wait but we cannot let god wait for us now can we
Aditya was the prince of Ujjain who had met Ratan during Bijolia's annual Diwali Mela well he had not met her but had saw her there and since then he had been taken with her. He was a calm person who always prepared well ahead of time, organised all his things, was a laid back person but a good warrior while Ratan was his opposite- it was her smile that attracted him then he had seen her with kids and animals and he was gone so he decided to take his chances to court her and now on his way along with his brother Gopal he hoped that Ratan also liked him as he liked her
Ratan knew there was something fishy going on when her sister requested her to escort the guests to their rooms and then take them on a tour as well so here she was guiding two princes of Ujjain across the garden when a rabbit ran straight to her
Ratan picked it up: Hmmm so my friend why are you running at such fast speed? She talked to the animal while Aditya looked on the other hand Gopal was bored so took off leaving his brother alone when he heard a melodious voice so he went to search for the person who was singing and came across Gauri who was singing her Bhajan while she fed the cattle unaware of her audience - Amar had seen Gopal going towards the shed where Gauri was and he had followed: Amar always stayed close to Gauri especially when she sang as he found it very soothing but since Aditya and Gopal had come he had been restless and now Gopal was talking to his Gauri so he straightened himself as he walked towards them
Amar: Looks like you found our guest Gauri
Gauri looked at Amar and gave him a huge smile: Yes Kunwar Gopal just introduced himself and you know I was about to ask him how he liked our palace
Gopal: Very beautiful
Amar narrowed his eyes as Gopal said this looking at Gauri who was oblivious to everything before anything could happen Ratan and Aditya came and they took Gopal with them. That night Ratan found out about Aditya's real intentions which angered her and so she decided to teach him a lesson
From making him fall into traps to ruining his clothes they did everything - she had made him climb a tree to get her favourite fruits and also made him take a hike to get her flowers for puja hoping he would run but he did not instead he did everything required of him and declared his feelings for her as well
When one evening as she finished her prayers she found herself alone with her Jijusa who wanted to speak to her
Pratap: You seem to be giving a hard time to our guest here
Ratan: Why didn't you tell me that he was here with a proposal?
Pratap: so that you could send him away before he stepped a foot in Mewar he teased. I know you have not given much thought to marriage but trust me when I say Kunwar Aditya is a good man give him a chance and you will see that for yourself as well Ratan
Ratan nods her head and that evening itself she takes a leap of faith and goes for a stroll with Aditya where she tries to learn more about the prince. It took Aditya nearly a year and a bloody battle with the Mughals in which she led a small battalion as well before Ratan agreed to marry him. She was 21 at the time and Amar was 14 while Gauri was 12 and everyone knew that Gauri was a special person in Amar's life.
Ratan was sitting all decked up like a bride while everyone was greeting her baraat- she looked at herself in the mirror when she saw her Jija come behind her
Ajabde: You have grown up into a beautiful princess Ratan. Maa and Daata would have been so proud of you and your achievements.
Ratan: I miss them Jija- Daata, Maa and Dada Bhai Patta- if he would have been here then he would have gone all - Ratan my monkey look at you looking like a human and that too a princess!!
Patta had died on the battlefield as he fought against an elephant which would have destroyed their army but Patta killed the elephant before being trampled underneath it
Ajabde: They are looking after us from the skies above- they might not be here physically but all of them are around us you know that
Subho came in as well: Are you both getting emotional without me. Ratan you look stunning. Ratan are you crying?
Ajabde wiped her tears when she said: What if I fail? I don't know how to do all of these things Jija what will I do? I should run away like now - I'm sure Jijusa will help me and No I'll ask Amar and ...
Ajabde: Take a deep breath Ratan- it is going to be okay. Kunwar Aditya loves you and he will support you in everything and when you feel you cannot do something then ask for help it does not make you weak alright
Subho smiled: Besides your darling Amar is glaring at Gopal your brother-in-law is speaking to Gauri at the moment making all of them crack smiles when a daasi comes in to take them
Ajabde: Ratan are you ready?
Ratan takes in a deep breath when Pratap enters and he takes her hand like he did at time of the coronation and took Ratan to the room where a new future awaited her
Pratap and Ajabde performed the Kanyadaan and at Bidaai she hugged Pratap real tight because for all purposes he was her father like Ajabde was her mother and as her palki went with Aditya - Everyone stood watching her leave - a group of people watched from the heavens above as the youngest member began a new journey
THE END

What a beautiful ending this was. Ratan the monkey gets married finally and even Amar is in love.
This was another wonderful story from you. Ratan was the star of this one.
I guess another story is brewing now?
