It was late in the night when Uday Singh finally managed to get some time. He relaxed on his plush arm chair and rested his head on the back of the chair. He closed his eyes. He's tired.. its not a physical exertion but the battle he fought all the day with his emotions which flared up at a single sight of her. Uday lazily opened his and stared at high beautifully crafted ceiling of his airy room.
"She had covered her face with ghunghat. She did what I had ordered her to do. I have tried to wipe out those bitter memeories of that night from my but couldn't. I could not forget her sharp words, those words came crashing down on my dreams and cruelly crushed every happiness. Never in my dreams I thought that she would do this to me. She the one who always understood me more than anyone, she was the one from whom I always took a strength, the only person whom I trusted more than I could trust myself. But why she slashed everything when she was fully aware that it will break me inside. Then why?? Why Jaywanta why??" Uday Singh shut his eyes forcefully in anger. He could not reason out what made his dear wife to take that step... He tried to think from every point but reached to nothing and this result of nothing agitated him to the core.
"For world she is just my wife and queen of Mewar. But her importance in my life could not be explained in words. When I was alone and broken she was there to support me like a friend, when I was hurt she was there to care of me like a mother, When I couldn't take decisions she helped me to take decisions like a guide, I could find all the comfort and affection in her arms, she is the mother of my son, the son whom I wanted to crown as prince but the lady who always supported me in every situation but ditched me at the point when I needed her the most." Uday Singh got up from his seat and moved towards large window as it all the bitter memories made it suffocating for him there inside.
Whole Mewar was elluminated with deem moonlight and cool breeze is enveloping the whole town. Uday Singh looked out in distance with tired eyes. His eye lids were heavy but sweet memories of their past had appeared in those lazy, sharp eyes and those dark orbs shined at the memory of those cherishable moments. And his lips turned upwards to form a little smile.
"She was in her teens as I was. She was bit thin and had an elfin & attractive figure which she maintains even today. I saw her first time on our day of wedding. I couldn't see that little young girl sitting to the other side of netted curtain but I could get few glimpse of my would be wife. I was never so excited to see a woman, I mean I never felt that kind of excitement and curiousity to see a face of a girl... the girl whom elders have chose as my life partner. But I could see that my excitement was matched with equal eagerness from other side to see me and that I smiled to myself with a satisfactions that its not just me but someone else in that hall was as eager as me." Uday Singh smiled at the memory of their teen frames.
Soon we finished all the marriage rituals as the day settled down. My friends escorted me towards my room. First I got confused to see my room as it was decorated like I have never seen before. I entered in my room and door got closed behind me. I was nervous like anything. At one point I wanted knock the door and ask others to open it and let me come out of the room. Actually I was confused, confused about what and how should I behave in front of this strange girl who is sitting on my bed and with whom I have to share my room and everything from that day. I was little offended at the thought of sharing my things with someone strange but then Panna Dai told me that from today I am her husband, so I have to take care of her, she's younger than so I have to share things with her and make her happy. I should fight with her. I obligeded that. My eyes moved to delicate, petite figure is sitting on my bed. A gentle breeze blowed through side window touched her soft cheeks... Her lips curved a little only to form the cutest smile I have ever seen or wished to cherish. The deem light of lamps falling on her beautiful face which glowed her skin. Her jet-black, silk soft hair are tied in pony which is covered under her red dupatta.
With a confidence I moved closer to bed and stood at the other side, looked down at the pretty face I have ever seen. Even at hour of night also, she looked like a fairy came from Heaven. My eyes moved to her hands which tightly holding fistful of bedsheet, she was equally nervous. I cleared my throat to break the silence but it she cringed in her place. Is she scared of me?? If she's scared then soon she will burst into tears, that's what girls do when they get upset. I have to do something very soon to make her smile and relax, if she starts crying I will get a scolding from Panna Dai. But what should I do? Thought Uday Singh panickly.
"Don't be so scare. This room is yours from today and even this bed is yours. I guess you are tired, me too. You should sleep, you will feel better in morning," he assured her. At this she seemed to relax a bit and released the clutched bedsheet. After few seconds of silence she looked up at him and smiled brightly. And Uday Singh was taken aback as those big, black eyes twinkled when she smiled. She has beautiful and attractive feature in her, her eyes.. big & black with long eye lashes. As her eyes can draw anyone in different world, away from everything and everyone.
"Why are you staring at me like that?" she asked in soft eyes. I came back to my sense and realised I was staring at her.
"No.. nothing," I stuttered.
She beamed at my confirmation and I noticed those lovely eyes twinkled again.
"I am tired, can I sleep here?" she asked sweetly and batted those long eye lashes who has a heart to say no to this sweet request, at least I lacked it.
"Sure. Its all yours," I said loudly.
And I was rewarded with twinkles again. "Where will you sleep then?" she enquired in soft voice.
"uhh.." I looked around to find place to lie down and found small sofa which is surely not meant for night sleep.
She followed my gaze and understood that there is not comfortable place to sleep other than the bed she is sitting on.
"If you don't mind we can share this bed," her sweet voice drew my attention.
"Are you sure?" I asked to confirm.
"Yes," saying so she got up and started adjusting the bed, after a minute or so wall of pillows divided the bed into two parts. One is for her and other one for me.
She settled on her side and patted the other side and invited to the other side. Me too gladly hopped on the other side and she giggled.
"This is a brilliant idea. Now we both can share the bed," I appreciated her finding quick remedy to our tiny problem.
"Thank you," she said shyly.
"But how did you guessed my discomfort of sleeping on that sofa," I frowned.
"umm... I don't know I just guessed it from your face," she answered with pure innocence and I accepted it.
"Okay, from today we'll share our things like this and we'll solve every problem as we are friends from today," she chirped.
"Friends?" I frowned again and her smiled dried. Seeing her puppy face I quickly said,"Oh yes, we are friends for lifetime."
With this promise soon we both drifted to sleep.
That was the day when two young hearts unaware about the true meaning of their relation promised to be friends forever and promised to be there for each other.
Uday Singh could not get enough of their past beautiful memories. But the present is too bitter for him to forget those harsh words and that fateful night. Uday Singh never doubted she loved him but he failed to understand what made her to do so. He remembered them holding hands and thinking to grow old with each other. Even after his two other marriages none could replace Jaywanta in his heart. Its impossible for anyone to take her place. And today, on the day of their marriage anniversary he couldn't even see that face which has brightened his life.
Uday Singh drifted back to his room and a salty, sole tear escaped from his eye. His eyes were red and sore and there seemed to be no end to this night. iHNone in the room provided him with any comfort, just unwelcoming silence as he stared around.
