HIGHLIGHTS

  • Shilpa and the show's producers are reportedly suing each other
  • Shilpa quit the show alleging that she was 'mentally tortured'
  • CINTAA have rapped Shilpa Shinde sharply for failing to resume work
Bhabi Ji currently Ghar Par nahi Hai and it's causing no end of trouble. Actress Shilpa Shinde's exit last month from her role as Angoori Bhabi on a popular series has left the TV industry in turmoil. In new developments, the actress and producers of Bhabi Ji Ghar Par Hai are reportedly suing each other, even as a replacement for Ms Shinde, 28, is believed to have been found. Shilpa Shinde was one of Twitter's top trends on Friday.

In March, Shilpa Shinde quit the show alleging that the makers "mentally tortured" her. Days ago, showrunner Binaifer Kohli sent Ms Shinde a legal notice asking her to return to work in 48 hours or pay Rs 10 crore as penalty - the show has had to go off air after Ms Shinde quit. Now, mid-day reports that Shilpa Shinde plans to take Ms Kohli to court and that Ms Kohli is doing the same.

The Cine and TV Artistes Association or CINTAA have rapped Shilpa Shinde sharply for failing to resume work and there was talk of a lifetime ban on her. After the directive from the CINTAA, a role on The Kapil Sharma Show was reportedly revoked by producers.

Two days ago, Deccan Chronicle reported that the vacancy had been filled and that Angoori Bhabi would now be played by actress Sheetal Khandal.

Soon after her exit, Shilpa Shinde told news agency PTI that she felt pressured by the producers of Bhabi Ji Ghar Par Hai to sign a contract that would prevent her from working on other shows. "You cannot make anyone sign an exclusivity contract like that. Why are you trying to spoil our career? I am giving you my 25 days or so, what is the problem if I do other shows in between? I never signed that contract. In fact, I came on board after Rashmi Desai left the part abruptly. I helped them when they needed. Today, they are spreading rumours that I threw tantrums on the set. That is sheer mental torture," Ms Shinde said.

The actress also said that her co-star Saumya Tandon received special treatment on set over her. "She gets her own costume designer, a personal hair dresser, but I had to ask for these things. Even if I am demanding a certain pay, it is because of my position," Ms Shinde told PTI.

Ms Shinde's co-star Rohitash Gaud told Tellychakkar later that Ms Shinde's allegations were "shocking" and that she had actually received two pay hikes in one year.

CINTAA exploits artists, doesn't help us, alleges Shilpa Shinde

PTI | Apr 28, 2016,

Popular television actress Shilpa Shinde today alleged that Cine & Television Artistes' Association (CINTAA) does not work in the best interest of actors in the industry.

Shilpa, best known for her role as 'Angoori Bhabi' on the show "Bhabi Ji Ghar Par Hai", had sparked a controversy when she announced that she had quit the popular series and accused the makers of mentally torturing her. CINTAA had then sent the actress a letter asking her to bear the cost of financial loss incurred by the producer or channels.

"CINTAA is an artists' association, but it doesn't help us at all. Artists who do episodic shows, we had told the committee that they should be given conveyance and per day money on time. But nothing like that happened. Artists need work and these people are exploiting that and the association is of no use," Shilpa told reporters here today.

The actress, along with former CINTAA member Arif Sheikh, alleged that the committee charges Rs 35,000 as membership fees, which is Rs 5,000 more, as opposed to the agreed charge of 30,000. Shilpa alleged that CINTAA always turned a deaf ear to her complaints regarding serious issues.

"I had told CINTAA that we don't have make-up room for artists on set, the kids are being kept waiting for long at shoots without food, the producers are not giving kids the time to study, but CINTAA took no call. CINTAA is made for us and I want the people who are heading it to do something for us," she said.

When asked if she spoke to CINTAA president, actor Om Puri, the actress said, "Om Puri is a very senior artist of our industry. Perhaps he is not aware of the matter. He is a senior member."

Shilpa had earlier quit the show citing that the makers wanted her to sign a contract which would bar her from doing other shows. On the other hand, the makers alleged unprofessional behaviour on Shilpa's part and said she had demanded a pay hike and wanted her own designers on the show. CINTAA had then intervened between her and producer of the show "Bhabi Ji Ghar Par Hai".

When contacted, they dismissed Shilpa's charges as "baseless".

"These are baseless allegations. Since the new committee has been formed I have received only one complaint from her which was that she was being harassed by the producers of her show. The producer, however, said she had stopped going for the shoot," Sushant Singh, General Secretary and spokesperson, CINTAA told PTI.

"Shilpa got her raise thrice and in fact was under the exclusivity contract since day one. I don't know what the fuss is about," Singh said, adding there is no overcharging of membership fees.

Battle is on: Shilpa Shinde files police complaint against CINTAA, IFTPC, FWICE

Legal battles are murky!!!

And the Shilpa Shinde-Bhabhiji controversy is murk personified.

For the late bloomers, Shilpa played the popular role of Angoori in &TV show, Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hai, produced by Edit II Productions.

Things went out of hand, Shilpa and the makers got into a slugfest and after an arduous ordeal, Shilpa was let go, and Shubhangi Atre was welcomed as the new Angoori.

Par drama abhi baki hain mere dost...

As per latest information, Shilpa has taken the legal route and filed a police complaint day before yesterday at Bangur Nagar Police station against three prominent industry bodies, namely, CINTAA, IFTPC and FWICE, a development confirmed to us by Shilpa. The charges are that of defamation, criminal conspiracy and extortion. Earlier, all governing bodies jointly passed a non-cooperation directive' against Shilpa, a disciplinary action asking Producers to not sign the actress for new projects if she did not return to Bhabhiji on amiable terms.

The move made Shilpa aghast and now she is up in arms against the institutions.

Holding a press conference yesterday at a suburban hotel, Shilpa greeted the media along with ex-CINTAA member Arif Sheikh.

Stating that the bodies have been utterly unfair to her during her battle with Bhabhiji makers, Shilpa also hurled a number of other accusations at them.

Talking to the media Shilpa stated that CINTAA which was formed to support actors have deviated from the primary goal. "They asked people not to work with me. They said I throw tantrums on the sets, but when have they seen me doing it? Whenever I have approached them to get any clarity, I have received zero response."

Shilpa and Arif also blamed CINTAA for not keeping enough checks on the sets for producers ill-treat actors. "The kids are not given proper food and time to study on the Bhabhiji sets. This is inhuman. And even when I informed the bodies of the same, they never took any heed of it. I am ready to help every artist in their fight with these bodies," she vowed.

The actress also stated that she was subjected to torture and extortion by her producers and the bodies chose to give her a cold shoulder. Shilpa has, thus, decided to fight legally and file a police complaint against them for deciding to ban her, even though she did no wrong.

Like they say, hell hath no fury like a woman scorned!!!

To get other side of the story, we spoke to Sushant Singh, Chairman, CINTAA, and he said "We have always worked in an unbiased way and will continue doing so. If Shilpa has been tortured and she can give us proofs of the same, we will surely take strict actions. But I really hope that it is not a fake blame game, or else we will have to look into it strictly."

Producer J D Majethia from IFTPC on his part said: "If industry bodies have decided something, it is in compliance with the legal directives. I cannot comment anything any further as of now."

Dilip Pithwa, General Secretary, FWICE, commented: "I know she held a press conference but on what basis did she file a police complaint? Extortion case against us? The producers can file extortion case against her as she tried to get more money by using arm twisting tactics. We have received a copy of the notice and will plan our future course of action."

As per the law, once a complaint is filed, the other party has to respond within the next 15 days.

Shilpa Shinde reacts to Shubhangi Atre's portrayal of Angoori Bhabhi

TNN | Apr 30, 2016, 05.38 PM IST
As the fight between Shilpa Shinde and the producers of 'Bhabi Ji Ghar Par Hain' continues, it seems that the actress is now at loggerheads with her replacement in the show, Shubhangi Atre, as well.

Going by the latest statement issued by the actress to an online entertainment portal, Shilpa seems far from pleased with Shubhangi playing her role. Shilpa said that Shubhangi is a good copy cat. And that it is easier to make someone look and dress like Angoori, but it is not easy to act like one.

Shilpa also added that Shubhangi is a good actress, but needs to stop imitating and do something original to do well in her career.

Now it will be interesting to see if Shubhangi is able to match up to the expectations of the audience with her portrayal of 'Angoori Bhabhi' in And TV's popular show 'Bhabi ji Ghar Par Hain'.

Shilpa--a desperate damsel. But why IF is still showing her name in the popular cast? Delete it immediately. We don't want to see even a shadow of her or her name anywhere. She should be completely ignored by all. IF please update and note Shubhangi's name as Angoori.
