Zoya is the most realistic portrayal of a muslim girl who comes from a liberal family atmosphere...mangalsutra is strictly not a part of muslim culture...but still zoya used to wear it when she was married to yash...it was a symbol of their love for her...we have never really seen zoya in hijab apart from jungle track and she used to wear a sleeve less salwar since the beginning of the show...and once she also took the prasad from madhu after the hindu prayer...all this indicates the free religious thinking of zoya...and trust me alot of muslim girls are like that today...even i am not very strict with religious customs...because i come from a very liberal family...zoya is not here to teach you muslim cultures and customs...zoya is here to show you that islam resides in your heart, your thoughts and your deeds rather than how you present it in front of the world...zoya is here to show you that it is fine to love and marry a guy from other religion...not once but twice...zoya is here to show you that one needs to be happy and has the full right to live your life the way you want to...zoya teaches you tolerance and importance of love and humanity over religion...i think her being a muslim was one of the most beautiful part in this story...

I think the reason for showing zoya marrying as per hindu rituals is because their friends conducted it and another reason i think there is no law in hinduism tht a hindu should not marry a non hindu.

And another major reason is trp! since islam forbids inter religion wedding makers conducted the wedding in the other possible way. I completely agree tht court marriage shouldhav been done instead of following religious customs but as i said the above points could be the reason. Plus all this decisions depends on individuals religion was never a problem in bp. Both the families hav celebrated all festivals. Makers tried to show tht love and humanity is above anything.

Another point could be all this happens in real life too non muslim marrying muslim and hindu marrying non hindu all these are happening in our soceity. Wedding decision depends solely on the the bride nd the groom. Here zoya respects all religion hence she married as per hindu out of her own decision. Even the families of adiya have no problem with religion. Every religion preaches the same . If the makers had shown adi converting into islam for marrying zoya then also i would hav been happy. At the end of the day whether true love wins or not tht is what is important.

I totally agree. The religious difference between them has been shown to be so harmless and normal. It is surely one of the reasons that sets them apart from the rest and I have never seen something even related to this in other shows, or even movies for that matter. I am so glad they made her a Muslim and him a Hindu. They are the most modern and progressive couple and it makes me want to see more of them in the real world as well.

I think in Hinduism , a conversion is not required when two people from different faiths decide to marry and since they needed TRPs they went for a Hindu ritual wedding. Although court marriage would have been the safest option

It was the easiest way to show a grand wedding that would involve some religious sacredness to it for the TRP audience.

I was hoping for a white wedding as it would be too tiring for Adiya to relive their past wedding rituals with their respective partners. Feels so good to imagine Zoya in that white gown with her mahagony hair shining in the faint Autumn sunlight. Adi in tux with his hair pushed back from his forehead...uuufff.

Wow some of you have put so nicely the thoughts on how awesome character is Zoya n her liberal values. . actually most of wanted to see how they being of different religion n still live in such a harmony n religion being no issue in love n love has no religion could be used by writer as a example that God is one n love is the only religion as u knw even though it is today's era...intercaste is still a taboo ..n in many areas it's not that easy to marry intercaste...both adiyas family r modern liberal though of different religion so that's good progressive one...bt it is for viewers to see how different cultured n religion ppl co exist n live in harmony n love between couple

Aditya and Zoya...or rather Harshu and Jenny! My God! These two take my breath away with their acting and skill! I actually feel its Harshu and Jenny and its all happening in reality! ๐Ÿ˜ณ๐Ÿ˜ณ๐Ÿ˜† (No I am not a hard core shipper...I just love both a lot and wish them all the luck in their lives...โค๏ธ Though, I wont mind ager in ki qismet bhi aik doosre ke sath judd jaye tou ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜†)
Anyway...so the question that has been plaguing me for a while is something that has probably been discussed before as well...
I dont understand Why Zoya has been shown as a Muslim?
You see, they could have shown her a Hindu as it is... Why go for her being a Muslim?
This question resurfaced in my mind during AdiYa's wedding. See, if they had shown AdiYa getting a contract marriage or court marriage, that would probably have made some sense if we keep Islamic restrictions aside and focus on legalities only. But they showed her getting married as per Hindu rituals. I just dont understand the reason behind her making a Muslim then. ๐Ÿ˜• Even after marriage, Adi puts sindoor and all... Its all very sweet to watch, but then Zoya could already have been a Hidnu na... why show her as a Pseudo Muslim- Pseudo Hindu? ๐Ÿ˜•
P.S. This post has nothing derogatory for any religion at all. I respect all religions and I totally love Zoya and Adi's wedding sequence and her post wedding avatar. Its just that I dont understand the CVS Logic behind making Zoya a Muslim rather than a Hindu itself... ๐Ÿ˜Š

maine bola tha simple court marriage kardo. We would be very much happy with Aditya and Zoya spending a night at Zosh and then going for a court wedding with a grand reception for their friends. They could still show the nagin with their exchange of garlands that we mostly see in the court weddings.

Any ways since somebody has brought this topic I would like to add my two cents to it. In Islam inter caste marriage is not allowed(I had done some research during the Arshad-Zoya wedding track). So almost all the rituals between AdiYa had happened as per the Islamic marriage except the nikaah as that would mean religious conversion of Aditya into another religion in which he wasn't born. Whereas to be a Hindu one has to be born a Hindu. Hence Zoya marrying a Hindu doesn't technically make her a Hindu she is still a muslim. The sindoor and mangalsutra are signs of their relationship of their commitment. The highlight of Aditya-Zoya's marriage are the seven vows that they have made to each other, more than the saath pheras.

Aditya-Zoya both are quite liberal in their thinking. Neither of them are very religious hence, its my belief that they will follow the seven vows they have made to each other and even if they fail to do so it will be for the welfare of the other.

Now if we see Zoya wearing Saris (though I preferred her in suits) to give Aditya the husbandly feeling we have seen Aditya doing prayer and calling Zoya Begam Jaan during the jungle track that was the pre phase of their relationship where Aditya didn't even see his future with Zoya. Aditya even did sayaris to impress Waseem.

My idea is the CVs made Zoya muslim to normalize inter-religious marriage. Plus Zoya's urdu galis give an appeal to her character and adds a charm to the show. Showing a female lead of another religious faith can help to garner larger audience of both the faith. It could have worked against them but I'm glad it didn't. Since the urban audience have become tolerant to the idea of inter religious marriage and relationship.

I think in urban India Hindu Muslim marriages are quite normal and even many of the big film stars have such marriages and are able to retain their religious identities. Maybe they showed Zoyas charcter as being Muslim so that she stands out from other leads and Jennifers previous characters? They did bring out the religious element in the post jungle segment and the riots but it was never anything that afffected their relationship. I think part of the reason Waseem wanted Zoya to marry Arshad so badly is because he was Muslim. I hope they don't lose Zoyas identity in the show and she just becomes 'Mrs Hooda'. Zoya Siddiqui had a charm abt her and i hope it remains.

Hey, I haven't read all the comments in this thread...But I liked the discussion anyway...!
I am a hindu, and I find Muslim culture very "Tehzeeb" oriented and beautiful. So, I love that the lead is muslim and I like the facets of what is shown in the show.

Secondly, I think CVs bought this 'Religion' angle because of the inter-religion marriages. I somehow, believe yash mom was actually so much against zoya because of her religion and nothing else.

But at the same time I remember a scene from initial episodes where waseem puts that he has problem with yash not because of his religion but because that guy is not good enough for his daughter. So, after that scene, I wished they could have tried telling why yash mom was not ready to accept zoya, but as far as I remember they never did.

So, I concluded, that as the religion topic is sensitive in india, CVs might have dropped it from directly saying it on TV that Yash mom had the issue of zoya's religion.

Anyways, No qualms with the religion thingy...Its just a way of life and it really doesn't matter!๐Ÿ˜Š
