Hi All,
I had a scene running through my head and thought I would pen it down. This is a short one! Enjoy!
Zoya:
Zoya could not sleep. She kept tossing and turning in bed trying to sleep, but the memory of the riots kept playing over and over in her head. She kept seeing Aditya's face as the brick had hit him and when he had fainted. If anything had happened to Aditya, she didn't think she would have survived either.
Giving up on sleep, she quietly got out of bed and called Arjun.
"Arjun, how is Aditya?"
"Bhai is OK Zoya. Please stop worrying. He is sound asleep due to the medications the doctor gave him"
"Arjun, I have to see him. I need to sit beside him and make sure he is OK. Please let me come over.."
Arjun was torn. On the one hand, he was worried about his mom finding out, but he could also hear the desperation in Zoya's voice. He knew from Noor that their abbu had forbidden them to go to Hooda house. If Zoya was willing to ignore both her abbu and his mom's order, she must indeed be very restless to see bhai.
"Ok Zoya, common over. Call me when you are at the gate".
Zoya quietly entered Aditya's room and locked his bedroom door. She did not want Anjana aunty to mistakenly enter and see her there. She went and sat on the bed next to Aditya.
He looked so peaceful asleep. As usual, his hair fell over his forehead in a complete and hopeless mess. She gently pushed his hair back and caressed his face. She observed him closely to make sure he was breathing OK and that he was not in any distress.
She continued to observe him for the next few hours.
Aditya:
Aditya's head felt like it was going to explode. He couldn't remember anything for a few seconds. As he slowly lifted his lids, the first sight he saw was Zoya. She was sleeping peacefully next to him. Her face was inches from his, and if he leaned over just half an inch, his lips would have been touching hers. As he observed her, he realized her breathing was uneven. She had been crying. Her left hand was holding on to his arm and her right arm was wrapped around his waist. His thighs were trapped under her right leg, that her left toes were touching his ankles. If he didn't know better, he would have thought she was trying to trap him with her body.
Suddenly, those almond shaped eyes opened and she looked straight into his eyes.
"Good morning" he whispered softly.
"Good morning. How are you feeling? Do you need anything? Do you have a headache? The doctor said you may have a headache when you...". She stopped when he put his finger on her lips to shush her.
"Zoya, I am totally fine. Or maybe I am not fine and I am hallucinating you. How can it be possible that not only are you in my room, but also in my bed?" He asked, looking at her intently.
Zoya looking away shyly for a second and then back at him. She suddenly broke down and hugged him and started crying hysterically.
"Aditya..Aditya...I was so scared. I thought I would lose you when you passed out like that. Why did you take that hit for me? Why do you always put your life in danger for me? Why? What if one day something happens to you because of me? Your mom will be so angry with me. And I will also be very very angry with you, because you have promised me that you will never leave me. Never Aditya."
Aditya was trying to decipher everything she was saying, but it was difficult. Her face was buried in his neck drowning some of the words and she was pressed against him so tightly that he could feel every part of her. It was getting harder and harder to ignore her soft body. Trying his best to calm her hysterical crying as well as his overactive body, he said:
"Zoya, stop crying. Please. Look, you are ruining my favorite shirt with your tears. Ouchhh...ok, sorry sorry. Cry all you want. But listen, do me a favor and stop getting into trouble. That way, I won't have to save you everytime and I won't have to put myself in danger either. Please please stay out of trouble for atleast 3 months. OK? For my safety?"
He finally felt a smile creep in against his neck. She started to relax against him and in a few minutes, he felt her starting to dose off. He figured she was exhausted and had not slept much the night before trying to keep an eye on him. It gave him hope that Zoya too had feelings for him. Hopefully he could confess to her soon.
"Zoya?"
"Hmm"
"I am glad we are both OK. And I love falling asleep with you in my arms. Will you share the bed with me again tonight? I promise, no hanky panky" he gave her his signature crooked smile.
Zoya smiled shyly at him and nodded.
Zoya may not have been willing to admit her feelings, but at least this was a step up from "azeez dost". Aditya had renewed hope as he watched her sleep like she had watched him the night before.
