Zoya held onto her hips breathlessly, "Gosh, I am so tired" she huffed as she pushed her feet to carry on walking. All these weeks without work had made her first week at her new job all the more difficult.

"Zoya, dont forget you have a new patient now" someone shouted

"Got it, on the way now" Zoya replied, pushing open the door to see a woman sat facing away from her, long black hair trailed down her back. "Good morning" Zoya chirped

The woman didnt move, Zoya stepped closer, sitting infront of her "My name is Zoya, im going to be talking to you today, if that's okay"

The woman nodded, still looking away "When will he come"

"When will who come" Zoya asked, confused

"My husband, I miss him" she said sadly

"Hm, I see, why dont you tell me about him" Zoya prodded

She smiled, turning to face Zoya "He's ever so nice, makes me laugh but he doesnt visit me anymore, I dont know where he's gone, my son says hes dead, but I dont believe him" she giggled, playing with her hair

"Why dont you believe him Anjana" Zoya began to write

"Because he wouldn't leave me Zoya, he loves me, but my son wont listen" she began to get angry, her hands gripping the table

"Tell me about your son"

"He always comes and eats lunch with me you know, he is good like that, but he doesnt like speaking about his father" she replied

"Hm, why do you think that is" Zoya inquired, she couldn't help but think of the mystery behind Anjana's husband and her son

"My husband didnt like my son very much when he grew up, my son could never forgive his father for his mistakes"

"Mistakes"

Anjana shook her head "My son will be here soon"

Zoya nodded "That's okay, it was nice meeting you"

Anjana paused "Why dont you meet my son, he will be here soon, he can be a bit scary, but he is kind"

Zoya laughed, she couldn't help but think of another certain someone with that description "Sure, I would be honoured"

The door was pushed open "Hey ma, I got lunch" he kissed her cheek then looked forward, his cheeks tinging red "Zoya" he muttered

Zoya looked up slowly "Oh, uh hey" she gulped, well this did explain a lot. "Uh, how are you"

Aditya's jaw clenched "Can I speak to you outside, now"

Zoya nodded, following him outside

"Look, I, me and my mother do not need your help, I dont care what you think of me, just"

"Hey" her voice softened "Dont shut me out now, im not going to judge you for your mother being in an asylum Aditya"

He huffed loudly "Stay away from my mother Zoya, and stay away from me, we dont need to be fixed by you"

Zoya frowned "Im not here to hurt you Aditya, I know you're scared and thats okay"

"Stop f**king analysing me"

"Don't swear" she argued back "Stop doing this Aditya, before you push everyone away, all I want is to be your friend"

"Well, I dont want to be yours" he growled, turning to see Anjana stood behind him

"Adi, why are you talking to Zoya like that, dont you like her"

Zoya pursed her lips "Oh, um we were just having a conversation is all" she smiled "Anyway, I best be going, it was lovely meeting you Anjana, but im afraid I wont be carrying on your treatment"

"What, why, no, please stay, I prefer you over the rest" Anjana pleaded

"Ma, we can find someone better"

"No, I want her Adi, please, that or send Harsh back to me"

Aditya's eyes filled with tears "Ma, he is dead, how many times do I have to tell you"

Zoya stepped infront of Aditya as Anjana raised her hand "Hey, listen, you know your son loves you right"

Anjana dropped her hand and nodded

"So, why would he lie, just because someone is gone doesnt mean they aren't still with you" she tapped her heart "He is with you, in your heart, giving you strength to get better okay"

Anjana nodded "Okay, will you sit with us"

Zoya shook her head "Another time maybe, take care"

Aditya looked down at her as she sighed, walking away. "Why are you so good Zoya" he whispered

Zoya stopped, turning her head "Did you say something" she watched as Anjana returned to her room

He shook his head

"You know, you're not the only one that gets lonely, you have your mother, I have no one, but if you're so adamant on pushing everyone away then so be it, what can I do, I cant force my friendship on you, just know if you ever need to talk, you know where I am"

"Why" he asked

"Because, I know how it feels to be broken" and with that, she walked away

KNOCK KNOCK

Zoya switched on the light, it was 3am in the morning, who was at her door at this time? "Yes, alright, im coming, dont break my door down" she opened the door to see Aditya facing her

"What are you"

"My father cheated on my mother, he was an alcoholic and he got ran off the road, that's why my mother is in the asylum"

Zoya nodded "Why are you telling me this"

He shrugged "I dont know, I just wanted you to know, what I said earlier, it wasn't okay, but its who I am, you either"

"Take it or leave it" she completed "Im assuming you're here because you want me to take it"

He nodded

"Well, welcome to my life then Aditya, I like 2 sugars in my tea and I drink a lot of tea, I hate bugs, I cry at everything even slightly sad and im trying really hard now to hold myself together, because right now the last thing you need is me crying for you, but if you're entering my life, you cannot just leave it, I wont lose anyone else"

Aditya nodded slowly "Im here to stay"

"Then you should come in, its 3am in the morning and I was raised better than to let you travel home this late" she turned to allow him to come in

But he didn't miss the burn that scarred the upper part of her back, his jaw ticked, who had hurt her? Who had hurt the only good person in his life?

Zoya turned back around "You okay, you know staring at people is rude" she pointed out

"Right, sorry" he smirked

Zoya led him to the sofa, passing him some blankets and pillows "Sleep well"

He grabbed her hand "Zoya"

"Yesss"

"You don't just see me as a pity case do you"

She shook her head "No, but I wouldnt be against you cooking me food as a thank you for my kindness, halal of course" she winked, lifting her hand she pushed it through his hair "Goodnight"

"Goodnight"

Hello! I just wanted to say a very big thank you for all your kind words and wishes for my exams, they went great! I really cannot say enough just how much your comments all mean to me, and im glad I have had the chance to speak to people as great as you all!
I hadn't realised before, but my mum read this story as I asked for her opinion and she said Zoya in this book is very much like myself, I guess the saying that writers have a little part of themselves in each story is true! But, on a serious note, if you ever do feel down, then please seek support, doing an Adi and bottling it all up is not good at all! Please remember I am always here to talk about anything!
