Why pray at all then? They shouldn't have shown her praying at all, then I wouldn't have said anything against her... Islam is very rigid when it comes to certain things and women though they have been given a lot of rights, but they are asked to preserve their modesty, that is very integral part of the religion.

Creative liberty, sure, but to what extent? Don't you think there should be a line drawn somewhere? I haven't even yet pointed out about Aaliya and Zain's dance which is completely forbidden in Islam, to be be at such close proximity with a na-mehram( someone who isn't your husband) is a strict NO. Sadly they have not shown any Islam customs here and that is what irks me a lot, There is always a misrepresentation about Islam in the media and they are doing the same. It is fiction I agree, but it still comes with a few responsibilities especially when it is open to the public.

I guess that's more of a personal thing? I dunno. I don't think anyone should be judged by their clothes. What if you're a dancer and you have to wear a skirt? That doesn't mean you're a bad person or that you can't pray to God. Everyone has their own relationship with God. And it shouldn't be dictated by anyone.

I understand that Islam is very rigid about certain things. But what if you disagree with something about your own culture? In my family, caste-ism is very much evident but I don't practice it because I don't agree with it. I just feel like religion lays a lot of rules for you and it is up to you as an individual as to how to interpret that and follow it. And as a person, I don't want to judge anyone else on how they live their life unless they're hurting someone or doing something drastic.

I don't find anything wrong with Aaliya and Zain's interactions so far. They haven't really done anything but stare at each other really. But I guess I might be considered more "liberal" and I admit, I'm not orthodox at all. But to each his own. You have your values and ideas and I completely respect them! But just a warning while watching Indian soaps: loosen up a bit! Don't think too hard about them or else your brain will go into overdrive! 😆

Muslims don't follow culture. We follow Allah's religion and Prophet Muhammad's Sunnah.

Culture is man made. I just wanted to point that out.

Btw, I replied back to you on the other topic about women visiting the graveyard ! : )

Edit: I think, If I'm not mistaken, there is a verse in the Quran about disagreeing with something.

As soon as I find that verse, I'll let you know.

Its juat a TV show for entertainment...do u think they show hindu customes correctly ?? I m a hindu n half of the rituals shown in tv shows r either too rediculous or imaginary...
If they dont glamourise the show then no one will watch...
I know lot of things r not allowed in islam but ppl still do it..
I hav many muslim frns who wear short dresses...go to discs...even drink alcohol...I m not saying tht its right or wrong but I dont hav any right to comment on their lifestyle...its their choice...I dont care.
Religious practice is more of a cultural thing...I hardly see indian muslim girls covering their heads or not wearing lehenga in real life...
Mixed dancing is also very common in weddings now...atleast in india its common n no one raises an eyebrow.
So they r just showing a moderate somewat modern muslim family which is not incorrect...they do exist.
Theres nothing to be offended about.

Religion and culture are definitely different thing but they influence each other greatly. I think because I've been brought up away from India my whole life, my culture and religion have become intertwined in some ways. And I guess I'm more of a spiritual person that likes to question everything and decide things for myself rather than just following a set of rigid rules. But I still find learning about religions very interesting!

Both of these are moving so fast! I can't keep up. I'll check it out though! :)

@Anamika:

About judging someone for the way they dress, yes you are right.

& here is something I wanted to share with you and everyone else.

"When you see a female dressed in a manner that is unacceptable islamically, do not for a moment think that she is lower than you spiritually. If you do that, you are lower than her. Believe me, that is the teaching of your religion. She might have a link with her creator that you do not know about. She might have a heart that is tons better than yours. She might have one weakness that is outward, and you have 50 weaknesses that are hidden."
- Mufti Ismail Menk

@Invisiblesmile:

Don't worry about it. It's ok hun ! <3 : )

I think you just summed up what I was trying to say for the last like 3 posts very well! 😆 Everyone does have their own way of following their religion. And at the end of the day, who are we to judge them?! To each his own! 👍🏼

I feel like we are just going around in circles. It is obvious that we both won't agree on everything, so let's just agree to disagree. 😆

See in Islam, while you have freedom of opinion and as such, there are are essential preconditions; to mean the right to think what you like or behave as you may, but only within the boundaries of what is permitted in Islam. It must be understood clearly that advent of modernity and new age, should never be accompanied by the supposedly inevitable retreat of religious teachings.

Like Aya pointed out, culture is man-made, while we are told to follow the teachings of Allah SWT and His messenger, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

I watch a lot of Indian soaps and I have never objected against anything shown because I thought it might be insensitive since I don't anything about the Hindu culture or religion. I spoke here because, I am a muslim and they have advertised this show as a '' Muslim social'' ? The juxtaposition of inadvertently claiming to depict a muslim social, when they have clearly shown no difference from a regular hindi soap is wrong.
Tell me this, how would someone like you know the differences in Islam, when they have shown none? If they just wanted to sell a romance, they could have easily done it under the banner of being a regular soap without offending many Muslims.

Yeah we are just talking in circles! lol I'm more spiritual than religious so we're bound to have differences in opinion. It's all good though!
