Goodbye Begusarai !

Hello members,

One of the most common rants of male Indian Television viewers is lack of quality fiction programming on GECs because of which hardly any guy that I know watches these daily soaps.

Begusarai was launched with unprecedented publicity and the fact that Tigmanshu Dhulia had conceptualized this show was one of the reasons that made me watch it from day one. This show captivated me with its attention to detail, the perfect casting, the uber-cool story-line..it felt as if I am watching a movie, something like Gangs of Wasseypur unfold before my eyes. The scale was lavish and I hoped that this show would turn out to be the game changer that Indian Tv was praying for.

Finally here was a show that guys would love to watch equally and majority of the guys at my office shared this view. For the first time ever we guys were discussing an Indian show at office- during lunch, at coffee machine, during the bus ride back home. Yes we were excited..and then within a week Begusarai stated coming apart.

Instead of creating several parallel tracks the makers decided that all we want is a 'love triangle'. Really Begusarai?? If people wanted to watch yet another love story they could blindly press any button on their remote and there it would be. Every show on every channel has a love story. Is that all that happens in Begusarai,in India ?

You have an awesome cast- the guy playing the Thakur khandaan supremo grabs your attention like a Boss but apart from a kickass introductory scene he is being used as a filler. Mithilesh, even though he is a mini Big B,performs really well in his scenes. Shweta Tiwari returns to TV in what would have turned out to be her most challenging role till date, a role that would have won her awards but the way her track is progressing Bindiya is turning out to be completely unidirectional. Vaishnavi Dhanraj- the best actress of recent times is being completely, totally wasted. I have loved her in CID and my family was a big fan of Na Aana Is Des Laado..she was pure dynamite in that show and we were waiting for her to ignite the screen but Maya is being made to serve tea nonstop.

& TV was supposed to be a different channel with a new and fresh content, a new direction of programming. It made unmitigated business sense to involve Indian males who are a solid 50% of potential viewership but after a promising couple of episodes the channel/creatives seem to have gone back to mediocrity and sleep walking. 75% of telecast is devoted to the teeny bopper love triangle leaving the rest of the time to be divided among the more promising and exciting tracks. If this was the direction the show was to go then a more apt name would have been something like- Padosi Sajanwa, Gussewale Saajan, Bandook aur Pyar...

Needless to add I have given up on this show and so has the entire office. What really hurts is that Indian TV would remain a slave to these done to death love tracks and channels would fail to realize their potential. I regret that the once in a lifetime opportunity to see such talent perform to their respective potential has been wasted. Imagine Phoolan Thakur vs Mithilesh, Imagine Bindiya vs Maya.. that would have been sheer fireworks but I guess everyone but the 'creatives' are creative in the land of hopelessness that's Indian Television.

Goodbye Begusarai , Goodbye And TV- you were too good to last.

Well I feel that the show is delivering to its promise. Woman (Joru) at the Center of all the drama. There is actually no love triangle happening right now on screen, but eventually it will. Right now on one side is friendship and other is 'could be marriage'. 3 weeks, I haven't seen so much of romance on screen as other TV shows offer. In fact the screen space given to other characters are fairly good as compared to other TV shows where lead characters and their chemistry occupy 95 percent of screen space. Unlike other TV shows I find few scenes to be bold; there are no filler scenes; and they don't keep actors standing in the scene like showpiece. And this show has more than 10 awesome characters, and I am sure their individual stories will open slowly once the show starts getting some loyal audience.

I am positive to play a wait and watch game.

They did'nt change anything in dis serial till now as they hav already shot bank of episodes before dis serial went on air.. so ur assumption is totally wrong !

Woh alag baat hai k afterwards if by viewers response they change dis show into a lovestory nd sideline all other chracters den i'll surelly be hell disappointed.. obviously there will be a lovestory in dis show as its already hinted in da intro promos bt it should'nt be da integral part of it nd other chracters should'nt be sidelined 4 dat !

i like those shows in which every chracter is given importance nd not used like a showpiece.. so really do hope dat dis wont happen in dis show as i'm loving it till now ;)

The only thing I can say is give the show a chance. I do not believe it is all about the triangle. The whole jar jameen and joru concept is at the heart of begusarai. And we saw a bit of it yesterday as well when phoolan decided to give a tenth part of his property to manjeeta. Mithilesh is straying from Maya and is attracted to bindiya. So the Maya vs bindiya thing might yet be in the wings. All the characters are to undergo the process called character development. Give them time to conjure up a proper track to focus on Maya and it is already in the making. Phoolan vs mithilesh is also bound to happen sometime soon as he is not quite happy with his father's distribution of property. . But you must understand that it is afterall a daily and not a weekly. And dailies are all about patience. They are gonna mess up at some episodes. Some episodes might not be up to your taste. But dismissing the entire show for the sake of a few episodes would get one nowhere. They are dividing the content as they have to keep the show running for atleast a year.
But nonetheless, if the show is really not up to your taste any longer than you might as well quit it. Or maybe you already did. And I really hope that Indian TV comes up with a proper show to cater to the male demographic as well.

But I do agree with the whole "bindiya is turning out to be unidirectional" part. Her character needs to be developed and quickly. It won't be long before the humour that we initially started out liking starts getting on our nerves. Shweta Tiwari is a brilliant actress. If you have casted her might as well exploit the pool of talent. Give bindiya some shades and layers. A monochromatic character is not appealing in the least. Come on begusarai team. They are high hopes resting on you. Don't let us down.

At first, I thought m the only male viewer of the show in this forum, good this show attracts many male. About the show, m liking it so far, love triangle is integral part of begusari. And m sure it don't gona be another ghisi piti love triangle. Every character of begusarai( except lakhans mother) are amazing, everbody have different story to tell. I just want this show to be finite.

Exactly like others I think it's too early to predict anything regarding the show. It will take sometime when u will be able to get what is going on and should u watch it or not? 😛
