Part Sixteen
As Divya was settling into bed, Sindoora prepared some medication. She came towards Divya with the strange looking liquid in a spoon.
Divya eyed her with fear. This medication could have something in it that could make her lose her senses for good. She recalled with dread when she had discovered Sindoora had been giving Sagar the wrong medication. What if she was planning to do the same thing with her and make her truly unstable?
She cowered with the blanket and refused to drink the medication.
She started to scream. To her relief she felt comforting hands cover hers.
" Divya kya hua?," he inquired.
" Auntie is trying to give me that nasty medicine. I don't like medicine. Please tell her I don't want it!," she whimpered.
Amar smiled slightly. She was so cute. He hoped they had a daughter who was just as cute someday.
He turned back to face Sindoora.
" Badi Mom, she is upset right now. I will give her medicine later," Amar assured her.
Sindoora sighed.
" Theek hai. Just make sure she takes it before she falls asleep. It's for her own good," she quipped.
Amar flashed her fake smile of acknowledgement.
Once the coast was clear, he turned back to Divya.
" Are you all right?," he inquired as he tenderly caressed her hair.
She nodded meekly. She slowly sat up before she embraced Amar.
" Thank God, you came when you did. I was so afraid she would make me drink that stuff and truly become mad," she declared.
When they pulled back, their eyes locked.
Bahon Ke Darmiyan was playing in the background. They imagined themselves dancing to the song. Divya had sindoor in her maang and was wearing beautiful light blue sari. Amar was wearing a matching shirt with a white suit.
He swung her around a few times and they gazed into each other's eyes.
Their trance was broken as there was a knock at the door.
" Beta, kya Divya theek hai?," Mahua inquired from the other side of the door.
Amar planted a chaste kiss on her forehead before answering the door.
" She's fine. I am just going to tuck her in," Amar assured Mahua.
She touched his cheek affectionately.
" All right. Just call me anytime if you need any help," she said firmly..
Amar nodded.
After she walked away, he went over to Divya and tucked her in.
She fell asleep with a smile on her face. Amar stood a few feet away hoping she could always be this at peace. He didn't know what tomorrow would bring, but he really hoped their plan worked this time.
He silently thanked Shivji that he was able to persuade Sindoora to leave them alone. He thought about the dream too. He hoped he and Divya could dance together soon.
The next afternoon everyone was gathered outside to play cricket. Bharat asked Divya to wait before they started because they needed more team members. In the mean time Divya and Amar wandered off in different directions in search of anything that could help them build up a few broken pieces of their memory. Yes they knew Sindoora had mistreated them and killed them in their last janam, but they to figure out if there was a way they could nail her.
Divya stumbled into an old building. It smelled musty. She grimaced as she made her way inside.
She stopped as she noticed something that was quite strange.
There was a car there that seemed familiar. She gazed at the license plate.
Why would it still be here after twenty-two years?
