"DAMN!" Tusshar formed a tight fist and hit the car wheel.
"ab? Ab hum kya karenge tussharji?" vidya asked, almost teary eyed.
Tushhar gazed into vidya's eyes and saw the vulnerability and fear in her moist eyes. How beautiful those eyes were, he thought to himself. He had a sudden urge to wipe her tears and wrap his arms around her fragile body. But of course, that wasn't possible. She was married, that too to his best friend. All he could do was offer her some comforting words and a reassuring smile, even if he longed to do so much more than that.
"Uff Vidya… itna pareshan hone ke kya baat hain? Its okay…hum kuch na kuch kar ke ghar pochenge…ab kafi raat ho gayi…im sure we will get a lift in the morning. If only my phone's battery didn't die! Damn it… and the stupid gas just HAD to run out here… in the middle of nowhere, that too when its raining so heavily! Vidya, im sorry, its all my fault… I shouldn't have--"
"Nahin tussharji, asa maat kahiye… party mein jab who log meri saat… bure bartav kar rahe te, aap hi to hain jo mujhe waha se legaye… aap mujhse kyun mafi maang rahe hain… maafi to mujhe aap se maang ni chahiye…" vidya said, her eye lids drooping and voice full of remorse.
"Arre vidya, tumhare koi galati nahin hain… please fikar maat kaho…we'll be fine!"
"ji?"
"mera matlab… hum theek thak ghar pochenge. Oh, age dekho, waha ek chota sa stall hain, chalo… shahid wahi sahara mil jaye raat ke liye." tusshar pointed to a little hut lyk barn.
"ji.." vidya agreed as a smile lit her face.
"to…chale?" tusshar asked and flashed a cute grin. (*faint*)
Tusshar and vidya got out of the car as the pouring rain made them drenched within a few moments. Oh how long it had been since vidya played in the rain, carefree and happy. A childish delight lit up her eyes and made her giggle. Vidya looked up at the sky and let her delight overwhelm her, the joy of the moment, the giddy happiness she felt by breaking all ties and being free, even for a moment. And as she enjoyed her little moment, tusshar watched with a twinkle in his eyes. She was so beautiful and looked like an angel. It was the first time he had seen her so happy and it made him happy as well. It was almost as if he never wanted to let this moment go, seeing HIS vidya be overwhelmed by joy just by letting the rain pour. But… NO… she wasn't HIS vidya… she was sagar's.. and belonged to only sagar. A mangalsutra hung around her neck, and her smothered sindoor was a sign of her married life.
Coming out of his daze, tusshar coughed, trying to get vidya's attention.
"to… chale vidya?" he asked.
Vidya, too, came out of her daze as her little joyful moment came to an end. She nodded and quietly followed tusshar.
Vidya plopped herself onto the comfy hay and rubbed her arms with her hands, trying to warm herself up. Soon enough, she realized that she was not only wet and cold, but her sari was not drenched and see thru. She blushed and tried to cover herself up while tusshar was busy trying to get his cell phone to somehow work. But he too, began noticing a shivering vidya's desperate attempt to cover her wet self. With out a word, he took off his jacket, walked over to vidya and draped it across her, making sure she was comfortable and warm. Smiling, he simply walked back to his little hay sack and began fiddling with his phone again.
Vidya stared at tusshar. A warm smile spread across her face watching him and his childish antics. He was so cute, banging his phone repeatedly, knowing that the battery was dead. They should be panicking right now, but somehow, tusshar's presence calmed vidya… made her feel safe. She remembered the first time she saw him, how something awoke in her, something that she could not describe. Maybe, just maybe, it was desire… desire that she had never allowed herself to experience… always tied down by the harshness of reality. He remembered how he trusted her when no one else did, how they defeated surili and sindoora together… how he made her feel so good about herself, which people seldom did. And vidya remembered how tusshar had taken her out of the party filled with drunkards and flirts trying to hit on her despite her husband begin with her. When sagar had refused to take her home, it was tusshar that held her hand and drove off with her, though not having enuff gas that is. She saw such passion and anger in his eyes, as if she meant the world to him. As if she belonged to him. When he had held her hand and stood by her, she felt something rising within her again, the desire, that hope to be with him and let her heart overtake all that bound her from doing so. Those times that they spent together, she had locked them up in a little corner of her heart… those memories where they shared so much with each other… as if offering a part of their souls. And as she stared and thought of that desire within, she wondered if she had given her heart to this man, this man who was not her childish and disabled husband, this man who had no place in her life, who would leave her one day…but rule her heart and soul…forever.
Suddenly coming out of her revere, Vidya sneezed. Tusshar looked up as his brows furried in worry. He rushed to her side.
"vidya…tum theek to ho? Bohut thand laggi? I hope u don't catch a cold now… itna der barish mein…" tusshar mumbled to himself wearing a concerned expression.
"aap…aap mere bare mein bilkul chinta mat ki jiye… mein theek hoon…" vidya said softly, taking off the clip from her hair and letting it loose so it can dry faster.
Tusshar watched her in awe, she looked even more beautiful with her wet, frizzled hair loose, touching her face and coming down her shoulders. Vidya blushed as she saw tusshar watch her intently. She smiled as she felt the heat rush the her face. Tusshar watched her and smirked at her shyness.
"u should keep ur hair loose more often," he whispered huskily into her ear.
Vidya looked up. "kya? Hum…samjhi nahin…"
Tusshar smiled sweetly. "kuch nahin" he gazed into her soft questioning eyes…
Loud thunder roared and startled vidya. Frightened, he hugged tusshar, holding onto him tightly. With her eyes closed and body trembling… she held tusshar with all her might. Tusshar, though hesitant at first, wrapped his arms around her and held her close, as if he never wanted to let her go. Both melted in the moment, in each others arms… as if time seemed to come to a beautiful standstill. Soon, vidya loosened her grip, yet not wanting to let go, rested her head on his chest. Tusshar gently stroked her hair and her brushed his fingers on her cheek.
No…she couldn't do this…vidya couldn't betray sagar and her family… she couldn't disregard the pheres she took with sagar in front of the agni… she couldn't insult her sanskars… and no matter what… she couldn't listen to her heart and give in to her weakness. Vidya got up and looked into tusshar's confused eyes.
"tusshar ji…mein…aap…--"
Tusshar put his hand over her mouth. "tum mujhe tusshar JI kyun bulate ho? Itna bhi Buddha to nahin ho na?" he grinned playfully.
Vidya blushed. "ha…who… ji… ummm…"
Tusshar cupped her face with his hands and came closer to her. Vidya closed her eyes and leaned forward as tusshar kissed her lightly on the lips. It was vidya's first kiss…the sweetest sensation she had ever felt. Tusshar kissed her again, this time more passionately as she kissed him back. She buried her head into his chest and hugged him, becoming crimson. He laughed huskily and wrapped his arms around her once again. They fell asleep in each others arms that night…for first and last time.
Because with the rising of a new sun, came a new day and the old life. And with the old life came its reality and its truth…but also memories to cherish for a lifetime. But as they say… one moment of love is good enough to last a lifetime…be it of happiness or pain… those memories will always be locked in a little corner of the heart. Those memories of a sweet forbidden love.
