Hide and Seek

Sagar with exaggerated style and attitude smirks as he gets off his horse and walks towards a defeated Karthik, who has a pleasant smile on his face. Sagar leans his head to the side and relaxes his muscles, walking towards Karthik. With a smile, Sagar says 'toh phir se haar gaye?' Karthik flashes back his toothy smile 'Woh toh aaj mera goda thakka hua tha isiliye…warna aaj toh tum haar hi jaate.'

'Haar tha woh hai...jisse 'haar' ka matlab maloom hota hai…mujhe toh uska matlab hi nahi maloom…mai aaj tak na haara hoon, na kabhi haroongi…tum aaj ki baat kar rahe ho…har waqt haarte hi toh aaye ho….' Another thought running simultaneously in his eyes, he glares at Karthik icily 'par dhoke zaroor khaaye hai…'

At this, Karthik shifts uncomfortably, his smile disappearing to be replaced with guilt. Sagar begins to walk towards where the women were, but Karthik practically runs after him, 'Sagar rukho…tum aaj raat rukh kyun nahi jaate..shaam ko party hai?' Sagar stops in his tracks and turns around, staring at Karthik as if he had lost his mind. 'kya kaha..mai yahan rukh jao?? Ruk jao…isse..isse jage pe..isse jage pe...jahaan..' he halts mid-sentence a dark expression clouding his eyes and turns around without another word to Karthik. Vidya who was observing their interaction with keen curiosity was puzzled by their expressions and thinks to herself 'Dost toh nahi lagte…par essa lagta hai..ke ine dono mein kuch juda huwa hai.'

As soon as the two men approach the women, Snigda walks up to Karthik, shoving her hand into his. 'Karthik, Chandra aur mujhe shopping karne jaana hai...party ke liye kuch pehne ko nahi hai..' Karthik shrugs 'toh tum uske saath kyun nahi chali jaati?' Snigda pouts her lips. Karthik looks uneasily at Vidya who is looking at him. 'Nahi Snigda zidd math karo..mujhe office mein bohoth saara kaam hai..'

Chandra slides her arms over Vidya and smiles at her 'tum kyun nahi chalti humare saath?' As she says this, she risks a wink at Sagar, whose eyes are twinkling. Vidya flinches at the horror of even a thought of going anywhere with Sagar. She was in no way going to allow herself to be put in a nightmare as such. 'Nahi…mera mann nahi kar raha hai..par poochne keliye thanks' Sagar urges Chandra to force her signaling through his eyes. 'Come on Vidya…bohoth mazaa ayega…waise bhi..hum ek doosre ko jaane bhi lagenge.' Vidya, who is still miffed at the whole scenario of Chandra and Sagar hugging each other, is in no mood to be friendly with her. 'Nahi...sach mein...'

Snigda rolls her eyes exasperatedly, tightening her grip on Karthik. At this Vidya stifled a smile, what did Snigda think, that she would burn with jealousy at the sight of Karthik and Snigda together? Forget jealousy, she feels nothing for him. How can she feel for a man, who has merely been a name in her life, a person with whom she has never spent even a moment of quality time? Snigda was kidding herself or she didn't trust Karthik's love for her. Just to spite her more, she designed a fake, sugary smile 'teek hai...aggar tum itna insist kar hi rahi ho...toh mai tum logo ke saath chalne keliye tayyaar hoon. 'Sagar bit his lip, stifling the smile erupting inside of him. 'This is going to be fun' At thisKarthik turns to face him, 'kya?' Sagar just smirks 'maina kuch kaha?'

So off they set to the shopping mall. Vidya's earlier sourness had vanished into thin air as she explored the world outside of her through the window of the car. It was the first time in a long time that she had seen the Mumbai roads. The smell of gas and spicy chat pati food from food stalls wafted through the air, people's voices echoed through every street and activity buzzed all around. Whether it was cars honking, customer's arguing and bargaining with sabzi waale's, rickshaws zooming past every nook and corner of the roads and chattering people everywhere. This was definitely something she had missed but hadn't realized till now. She felt like she was locked away to a different world and was just experiencing to be free, a free bird. She was comforted by the winds that blew through her hair, infusing fresh air into her system.

Snigda groaned at the other end of the seat. 'AC on hai…aur window khol diya' she grumbled. Unfortunately, Snigda and her were forced to sit together at the back seat since had Chandra occupied the other front seat whilst Sagar drove. Out of the corner of her eye, she felt like she was being steadily gazed at, so she turned her face away from the window and looked ahead, her eyes meeting Sagar's in the rearview mirror. She quickly averted her eyes and slowly sneaked up a look again, he was still looking at her. How her heart skipped a beat every time he gazed at her with such intensity, how wrong could this be she asked herself. Steadying one hand on the steering wheel, he turned on the radio. 'Kehne ko jashn-e-bahara haia...ishq yeh dekh kar heraan hai…phool se khushboo kafaa kafaa gulshan main…chupa hai koi ranj fiza chilman hai..saare sehme nazaarein hai..soye soye waqt ke dhaare hai..' The beautiful song echoed in every corner of the car, filling it up with its melodious tune and beautiful lyrics.

Sagar hums the lines softly 'kehne ko jashn-e-baharaa hai..ishq yeh dekh heraan hai…' all the while smiling at Vidya, who is fidgeting awkwardly. God, she was so beautiful, how blind can Karthik be? How could he not be attracted? Unable to resist he continued playing hide and seek with her, through his eyes. 'So…Vidya aap badi chup chap si beti hai…Mumbai ko esse jaakri hai..jaise barso ke baad dekha ho...kya wa keyi mein arsa ho gaya hai Mumbai ko goome huwe?'haan huwa hai arsa...toh?' 'Nahi bas esse hi…' 'Accha Chandra…you know what..hum aaj disco chalte hai..bada mann kar raha hai aaj..' Whilst saying this, he looks into the mirror at Vidya's fuming face and smiles smugly. Chandra however is excited 'that's a brilliant idea…bohoth mazza ayega…in fact…mai Sapna aur Neal ko bhi bu laadu? It'll be so much fun…hum sab saath mein chalenge…' Vidya twists her dupatta in her fingers, her face knotted in misery.

Preview: 'Sagar kya aap hume kahin le jaayenge?' Sagar looks at Vidya, mischief written all over his face 'ek shart pe...manogi kya?' Suspicion slowly spreading through her eyes, Vidya shakes her head.
