Part Seventeen: Together in Pain
(Sorry for not updating in an extremely long time, but finally, finally I have updated two parts, and I hope to finish up this fan fiction soon) I hope you all enjoy these two parts as much as you all have enjoyed the previous chapters. I love you all for your warmth and encouragement)
They finally reach the shopping mall and they all get out. Chandra and Snigda rush into the mall, gushing at all the stores that they want to check out. Vidya and Sagar tag along behind them. Snigda and Chandra rush ahead, Sagar is about to follow them, when Vidya stops and touches Sagar's shoulder ever-so slightly. Sagar with a smirk, hesitates and looks around avoiding eye contact with Vidya and points to himself 'Mai? Aap ko mujhse baat karni hai?' Vidya presses her lips together into a frown and rolls her eyes in frustration. 'Haan karni thi…par mujhe nahi lagta ki mai woh kahungi jo mai kuch der pehle kehne waali thi..' Sagar gives up mocking her and with a real genuine expression and softly says 'kya baat karni thi?'
Vidya stares at the ground and slowly with emotion overcoming her composed mask says 'kya tum…kya tum mujhe Pine Mental Assylum le chal sakte ho?' Her voice shaking at the last bit, Vidya bites her lip as tears well up into her eyes and threaten to spill over. Sagar is astonished at this bit. 'Par tum waha kyun jaana chahti ho?' Vidya gets a grip over herself and with a semi-composed voice says 'tum mujhe sirf itna batao tum mujhe le jaoge ya nahi?' 'Agar tum nahi bataogi ki tumhe waha kyun jaana hai, to mai nahi le jaunga…' Vidya collapses into a near by bench and puts her head down into her knees. In a muffled voice she says 'Meri m..m..maa waha pe hai..' Sagar is taken by surprise as he didn't expect a reply from her and that too such a shocking one. 'Tumhari maa? Waha pe hai?' 'Haan.'
Sagar gets directions to the hospital and then leads Vidya back to his car and they sit inside. Whilst driving to the Mental Asylum, a heavy curtain of silence hangs in the car as Sagar and Vidya speak nothing. Somehow, even though no words were spoken, it was as if like the other's pain reached over and touched the other and held each other without physically touching. Sagar glanced at Vidya out of the corner of his eye, opened his mouth to utter words of reassurance, something comforting but his tongue held back. He had no idea what to say and if she needed his reassurance or anything of him out of all people. Without thinking about anything,
Vidya began talking as if her the lid that held her feelings locked had opened up. 'Mai apni maa se bohoth pyar karti hoon, unko dekhe huwe arse ho gaye, mai yeh bhi nahi jaanti ki woh mera chehra dekhna bhi chahti hai ya nahi ya unki deemagi haalath thori si bhi teek huwi hai ya nahi.' A fresh dose of sobs erupted from her and this time she didn't even make the effort to restrain them. 'Maa shayad mujhse nafarat karti hai kyunki woh abhi tak bhai ke mauth ka zimedaar mujhe maanti hai…' "Mai..kya..' Sagar felt a stab of pain seer across his heart and tears well up in his eyes as he grazed through her pain. On impulse Sagar reached out and put his hand onto Vidya's. 'Don't worry...I'm sure tumhari maa tumse nafarat nahi karti..' Vidya turned and looked at Sagar and slid out her hand from his. 'Thanks…mai tumhara ehsaan kabhi nahi bhoolungi.'
Part Eighteen – Feelings Unleashed, Reality hits
At last they reach the Mental Asylum. Vidya steps out slowly, nervously clutching her sari. She touches the Asylum's door handle and hesitates. 'Chalo…gabrao math..' She steps inside with Sagar close behind her. Her heart pounding in her chest, Vidya asks the nurse at the front desk if she could meet her mother. The nurse refuses straight out to let her meet her mother because patients like her aren't allowed visitors. Vidya pleads with her and promises to just look at her mother through the window of her room door. The nurse agrees but tells her not to try and get inside or else she won't be allowed to stay there any longer.
Vidya, Sagar and the nurse head towards her mother's ward. They reach the ward and Vidya gulps down a sob as she touches the window, gazing at her mother who was asleep in her bed. It was after all a long time since she had seen her. Wishes and thoughts came flooding back to her, thoughts of how much she missed having her mother, how much she missed having her mother love her, how much she missed talking to her mother and how such things would probably never be as destiny hasn't written that for her. 'Nurse…meri maa ki..ki tabeeyat ab kaisi hai? Kya unki haalath mein sudaar aaya hai?' The Nurse shakes off her tough demeanor and softens up. 'Kuch zyada nahi par pehle se kaafi shant hai…' She pats Vidya's shoulder and then leads her back to the reception area. Sagar squeezes her hand trying to comfort her and she lets him, too much sadness overwhelming her. Outside Vidya completely breaks down, crying her heart out. Sagar gently pulls her against his chest, and Vidya allows herself to be held in his comforting arms. Sagar caresses her head gently, holding her close. Vidya shuts her eyes and also wraps her arms around Sagar, embracing the comfort that seems to be radiating into her from him.
The sky darkens as sheets of grey clouds spread below. The trees dance wildly and stray leaves fly all over the place. A single drop falls onto their faces, they both turn their faces slightly up as the heavens open up and the rain comes tumbling down on them. In seconds they were soaked. Vidya realizing what had happened a few moments ago, pulled back, pushing Sagar's arms away. She wrapped her pallu around her and goes and sits inside the car without a word. Sagar runs his hand through his wet hair and gazes at Vidya from outside and realizes the intensity to which he burns to be with her and kicks a peddle hard. After all that he needed to do, he had to…his heart had to…betray him…everything was so over for him.
