By her own admission she is an adventurous girl. An NCC cadet and a gold medallist in rifle shooting Divyanka wanted to become an army officer. But she didn't pursue her dream when she got busy participating in talent contests like Sahara One's Mr. & Miss Bollywood and Zee's India's Best. While she won the Sahara's Mr. & Miss contest and did a tele-film for the channel called Saathi Re, she got eliminated in the second round of Zee's India's Best.

She tried her luck at the Miss Bhopal beauty contest and emerged a winner. She soon participated in Zee's Teen Queen contest where she won the Miss beautiful skin title. "It gave me a lot of confidence and I thought of doing serials," recalls Divyanka who debuts on television next week in Zee's Banoo Main Teri Doolhan.

Of course she had donned the grease paint and emoted before the camera before for Bhopal Doordarshan in a tele-film called Gulra Ke Baba which was based on well known literature Markandey's novel of the same name besides Sahara's Saathi Re. But those were one-off short films made on a much smaller scale and lacked the glamour and glitz of the mass entertainment daily soaps.

Though she was based in Bhopal she dreamed of working in regular television serials. Luckily her co-actor from one of her tele-films came to her aid. Through his model-coordinator he did the groundwork of reaching her pictures to the production house's office which was looking for a girl to play the main lead in Banoo Main Teri Doolhan. "I was called to Mumbai for an audition and to my surprise I was selected for the role," she smiles.

The show, according to Divyanka, is based in a small town and deals with a young girl's struggle to come up in life against all odds. "Like most small town girls, Vidya is a chirpy, confident and positive girl who strives to come out of her small town existence. Destiny helps her reach her goal. It's a beautiful story with lot of masala," laughs Divyanka who feels small town girls are more smarter and ambitious than big city girls.

"That's because when you have access to a lot of stuff your ambition takes a hit because things are taken for granted. On the other hand, small town girls dream big because they have limited access to opportunities." She is really excited about her role and big television debut.

"This is my first real big exposure and I hope I live up to everyone's expectations," she adds. But then like most small cities and town girls Divyanka is also not low on confidence. "In many ways I am like Vidya. I am a positive thinking girl and can face problems confidently. I love challenges," she asserts.

This is my first real exposure and I hope I live up to everyone's expectations. In many ways, I am like Vidya, a positive thinking girl and can face problems confidently. I love challenges - Divyanka, TV actress.

Aankhon dekhi: Divyanka Tripathi and Sharad Malhotra in Dulhann
It seems that Divyanka Tripathi (Vidya of Zee's Dulhann) is having second thoughts about her longtime boyfriend, for she is now drawn to her co-actor, Sharad Malhotra (Sagar).

A reliable source from the unit tells us, "All of us know that Divyanka has a boyfriend. She had decided that if the serial doesn't work, she would settle down with him and have a baby. But these days, Sharad has become her first priority."

Divyanka and Sharad's body language on the sets clearly exemplifies that they are more than just good friends. They continue to hold hands even if the director calls 'Cut'. The source tells us that they even share the same make-up room and leave together when the shooting is over.

Waiting game
"They wait for each other's work to get completed. If one of them gets free even four hours earlier, the other will patiently wait. Sharad has even shot an MMS where he is kissing Divyanka, but I don't blame them."

While Sharad denies this, Divyanka admits, "We do wait for each other. But that's because Sharad, Manish Nagdev (who plays Sharad's cousin) and I are a trio. But I am not in love with Sharad. Yes, we are very comfortable with each other. But that's because we have known each other for the last two years; we were in India's Best together."

No kiss and tell
Divyanka maintains that she has a special somebody in her life. "There's somebody else in my life, but I will not reveal his identity. I am in regular touch with him. As for my marriage, I'll marry someone my parents approve of," she says.

As for the infamous MMS that Sharad has apparently filmed, both actors deny its existence. Divyanka brushes it off, saying, "There was a scene in the serial where Sharad kissed me on the cheek. That's about it."

Actress Additie Shirwaiker might be single in real life, but in reel life she has two weddings to prepare for. The actress is getting married in both her serials Dulhan and Saarthi around the same time. Talking about both her weddings the actress says, "It's funny, because I move from one shoot to another getting married, but it doesn't feel like I'm in a different show because the atmosphere, costumes and storyline in my serials are similar."

2 marriages for Additie!

Additie Shirwaiker is getting married at two places at the same time! We are talking about her marriage sequence that's incidentally taking place at the same time on both the shows Star Plus' Saarthi and Dulhan. In both the serials, it's finally her turn to tie the knot. So how does it feel to be shooting for two marriages? "Its funny, because I move from one shoot to another but it doesn't feel like I'm in a different show altogether because the atmosphere, costumes and the line of drama are all similar. It gets hectic with all the make up and deck up but its going smoothly otherwise." Well Additie, all we can say is enjoy your wedding(s)!

Married to her job?

Recently when Aditi Shirwaikar got married on-screen, her friends thought she had tied the knot in real life!

Sapana Patil Poojary

Red herring: Aditi Shirwaikar

Last week Aditi Shirwaikar (of Saarthi and Banoo Mein Teri Dulhann) tied the knot in both serials. As a result, Aditi had to rush from one set to another dressed in her bridal finery.

Although Aditi is single, she enjoyed playing a married woman. "I wore exclusive saris and jewellery through the entire week. But it was also inconvenient oas thje air conditioner was switched off nly during the shooting," Aditi says.

Aditi can't help but recollect the comedy of errors that resulted because of the sequences. She recalls, "I was wearing sindoor during the shooting. The colour was so strong that even after washing it some of it remained. Hence my friends and neighbours thought that I had got married without telling them. In fact they even asked my dad about it! He had to explain that it was just part of my job."

"I was excited as I have acted in several serials to date but this is the first time that I was getting married in two of my serials," adds an excited Aditi.

"Sindoora is closer to my heart"

She's definitely on her way to redefine the vamps of television. We are talking about none other than Kamya Punjabi whose portrayal of vicious but subtle and realistic Sindoora in Zee's Banu Main Teri Dulhann has sent the TRPs soaring each time she glares through her hazel contacts. And as Kamya (her character name) in Woh Rehne Wali Mahlon Ki, she offers serious competition to negative characters currently ruling the small screen.

With a string of serials to her credit - , Kehta Hai Dil, Piya Ka Ghar, Kyun Hota Hain Pyar and Astitva to her credit, this sassy and vivacious actor is fast coming one of the most identified faces in the industry.

In a heart to heart chat with Prashant Golecha, Kamya talks about her journey in this industry, what makes her current roles so special and what lies ahead for her. Excerpts.

What differentiates Sindoora from other telly vamps?
It's the simplicity of the character. She drapes simple cotton sarees. Contact lens is the only flashy item she sports and that's being appreciated by the audience. Though I act spontaneously I have really worked hard for it.

Make a choice between Sindoora (Dulhann…) and Kamya (Woh…)
Sindoora is closer to my heart. But both shows and characters are important. Kamya in Woh …is quite comic and I have avoided being loud by choice Working with Rajshri's is an excellent experience.

How do you manage these two dailies simultaneously?
It's hectic but I have no choice. And above all I enjoy my work.

Going into the reverse mode, did you even think twice before taking up your first negative role in Astitva?
I wanted to work with Ajay Sinha as I loved his serials, especially Hasaratein. I accepted the role of Kiran without a thought and it worked for me. And post that show I have done only negative roles!

How come you have not worked with Balaji Telefilms yet?
I was offered Kitni Mast Hai Zindagi but the kind of money they offered was not acceptable. I was also approached for a role in Kkusum. I would love to work for Ekta Kapoor because she is mind blowing. She has an amazing attitude and has really made it big. She is not bothered about what people comment about her shows and does what she feels is right.

What is the real Kamya Punjabi like?
I am a difficult person to understand. I prefer being very straightforward and hate liars. But I'm very emotional when it comes to my family.

Any special person in your life?
I am too focused about my career so where is the time for love?

It is learnt you dislike pets. Why so?
I had a cat who died when I was in school and I went into a depression. Probably that painful memory is still etched in my memory. Thus I don't like pets at all.

Who are your best pals from this industry?
Kavita Kaushik. But I don't get enough time to interact with her these days as I'm committed to two dailies.

Any memorable fan encounters?
Some time back when I was shooting in Madh Island a fan came up to me and recognized me. For a moment I was thrilled that I am known by my real name. But later he blasted my saying that he hates me because my on-screen characters only annoy others! The man gave me such a look that I was literally thought he would hit me any moment.

Is there a crossover to Bollywood on the cards?
I am happy doing television. If at all I do films in future it has to be a relevant role, nothing insignificant.

Pyaar ki kashti mein….!

Sharad Malhotra and Divayanka Tripathi who play the lead pair in Banoo Mein Teri Dulhann, are an off-screen couple too.

Ranjib Mazumder

It's a typical Bollywood-style love story that is brewing on the sets of Banoo Mein Teri Dulhann. It started with small catfights between the lead pair of the show, Divayanka Tripathi aka Vidya and Sharad Malhotra aka Sagar.

Sharad Malhotra and Divayanka Tripathi in Banoo Main...

A co-actor from the serial says, "When they started the show, both Divayanka and Sharad took a long time to adjust as Divayanka is from Bhopal and Sharad is from Kolkata. Initially, they both used to fight a lot and also not talk to each other. As time passed, the chemistry became evident and the two are extremely comfortable in each other's company now. They love to spend as much time as possible together on the sets. They also rehearse the dialogues together, eat food from the same plate very often and also leave the sets together."

An actor on the condition of anonymity says, "You can easily tell that they are very fond of each other and often go out for dinner. They also visit Siddhivinayak Temple on Tuesdays together. Although, Divayanka is not a party animal but as Sharad likes to go out, she accompanies him to most parties. In fact, Divayanka danced very well at the Dulhann bash. They are definitely in love."

Divayanka said, "Yes, we started with fights, but now we are very good friends. Our chemistry is also showing very well on screen and we are very happy that Dulhann is doing well."

On being probed further, she added, "Yes, we do go to Siddhivinayak on Tuesdays, but our common friend Manish Naggdev is always with us. The three of us also go for dinner together. As far as the rehearsals are concerned, it's bound to happen when we are working together. We share a special bond of friendship."

Sharad said, "People will always link up the lead actors, and I have no qualms as it is a part of the game. Divayanka and I are the best of buddies."

What about their new found love? "I have known Divayanka for the past two years when we participated in Zee Cinestars. Our friendship has grown over the years and it's a very healthy relationship. Whenever, we get time after shooting, Manish, Divayanka and I make it a point to hang out together. We are just very good friends," Sharad added.

Dulhann's Vidya engrossed with Antakshari

Apparently, Dulhann...'s Divyanka got so engrossed and involved in the Titan Antakshari episodes that she makes it a point to check on her team (Vidya Ke Mastane) from the sets. So much so that recently when Rajesh Balwani was playing in the episode to go on air on Friday she was constantly on the phone with him. The director had to remind her many a time to concentrate on the shoot rather than on Antakshari! Rajesh finally did win the episode, much to Divyanka's relief.
