Once a child is adopted, s/he is tied by every relation. There is no distinction made to alienate them. What would be the purpose to adopt them otherwise.
Can Waghelas marry Waghelas? Absolutely. Atleast in the Gujarati culture. The caste system is so convoluted, it would cause one's head to spin. Although I am a gujju I know very little. But here's an example, there's one group of Patels (biggest clan ever! 😲 is split in a variety of caste levels) that are known as chh gaam (6 town/villages) Patels. One can only marry within these chh gaams....oooppss with the 5 of the 6 villages as any boy/girl from the same village is considered a brother/sister. This would make it such that Patels only marry Patels!! 😕 oh there are a few other surnames that reside in these 6 villages but talk about rigid customs!
Anways, I am digressing but many are surprised at Motiben's behavior but it is not too uncommon. Sure she is portrayed a bit OTT but the underlying behavior is still very much common.
