His own wish/desire to have the rose. No one forced to do so.
He very well aware of what and where was getting into.
He had to do the mehnat required as he too knows that 'rose' is not the normal flower which he had normally found in many gardens.
As the rose is special of all, so that much thorns were expected by him too. Its he who took the path all by himself to get that rose even after seeing those thorns.
