Why should engagement be perceived more lightly than marriage? The expectation of the type of commitment is the same.
Now if it does not work out on its own because of natural unforeseeable reasons, then it is one thing -- definitely a broken engagement is better any day than a broken marriage.
But to step into something deliberately knowing that there are mismatches, and then saying it is "only an engagement and not a marriage" is not correct or ethical.
I also feel that the shekhars would only have been insulted if he has said no to saanchi and then perhaps gone on to get engaged to another woman. Then, in a worst case scenario, they might feel miffed "Is our daughter not good enough for him, arrogant bas***d"... But if he had just made it clear that at this point and time in his life, he was not ready to get married to any one, unless he was emotionally ready, the shekhars would have been fine with it. They are a bit of a whacko family but perfectly reasonable in most respects.
Personally, I feel Jagat is behaving this way because he doesn't have the guts to break off the engagement himself. So, he is just trying to create situations where saanchi will herself find it unpleasant and break it off herself, so that he will not be held liable or responsible in any way. It's subconscious desire to teach saanchi a lesson.

I like to see Jagia break his engagement not because he is in love with Ganga, but because
He does not like Sanchi as his life partner and he does not want to get married now. That is his true inner feelings and his prerogative. I want him to realize he does not owe his family a marriage
Just to make them happy. That should be a valid message from this serial. Lot of abuse and
Miseries happen because older people control adult children too much. They dont want them to be
adults and make their own choices and learn from that.

Excellent point Jan50! Maybe the serial makers missed out on this opportunity by introducing ganga too soon into the picture in a parallel fashion to saanchi.
The saanchi story could well have been brought about in a ganga-less universe, with Jagya just having to grapple with his lack of feelings for saanchi and having to stand up to his family just for the conviction of the issue of his own adult choice.

Sectoreight, we all know jagia said yes to this alliance out of compulsion and blackmail. He did not
Even have time to think it over. He just got a few minutes where his mother made scary faces at him and brought up "anandi sasra" non sense. How can a person who is going thru guilt feelings of the
Past and being reminded of that guilt to take a decision with clear mnd?
Day by day he is witnessing Sanchi's true colors. I dont know what the cvs have in mind? Is J
Going to be ok ifbhevcomes to know how Sanchi manipulated everything along with his mother?
What if he comes to know Sanchi is just acting to embrace all thevtraditions but has every intentions
Of taking him away from Haveli. Is he going to be very thrilled?
If Jagia nreaks the engagement it is because that is his nature? Despite all these herafaries from sanchi?

I have repeatedly said this in previous posts in this same thread. Saanchi's heraferies do not give Jagat a license to not live up to his part of the commitment. I do not have any sympathy for saanchi either nor am I her fan. I do have expectations of Jagya since he has "reformed"
If he breaks off the engagement, I will be the happiest person and will not blame him.
I have no issues with his breaking the engagement.
I do have issues with his continuing his engagement and seeing ganga on the side.

And her mahaan brother and great bhabhi will explain to this baby bechari what jagyas goals are and how she should be understanding .. And fill the screen space.. And become more mahaan...

No matter whom the other person is, if that person is related to jaggiyya, that person will become mahaan or sympathetic to everyone.

It is sad to see people judging jaggiyya for saanchI. the same saanchi who is still deceiving her own family and singhs purposefully.

Since Ganga is getting close to jaggiyya, people have no nice words for her either.

jaggiyya clearly mentioned his intentions to everybody verbally and through actions, and like always is is being single sided again by everyone. everybody knew about jaggiyyas mixed feelings for Ganga, but they don't want to consider it. his family was never there for him.

So Anandhi can pretend in front of shiv about her feelings and she is okay. She took shiv for granted and that is fine too. she knew who jaggiyya is leaning towards and she is fine. she knew ashima loved shiv since childhood and inspite of that anandhi married shiv and she is fine...

Bit jagiyya is being fair now, I meant to say the only one who is being fair and he still need to face the blame from everyone.

I now truly wish they kill jaggiyyas character and I really want to see how long this show will continue. And I can quit this show.

Another thing is, Anandi has not set any precedent how haveli's son/daughter should behave in their second/third marriage - at this rate, we should be prepared to hear "mujhse nahi hoga" also.

Perhaps I could not write it clearly, my resentment is why do CVs show such insult towards the institution of marriage? Jagya could as well reject the rishta, if he has accepted, then why there is no bonding with his future wife/her family? Did they ever show Jagya himself trying to talk to Sanchi or her family (except when he was trying to say that he will not be available because he is going to Mangalore), did they ever show him thinking about Sanchi? No all he thinks about is Ganga and Mannu. This serial is so preachy, so they should at least should not show something that is all wrong- agreeing to marry some girl but bonding with some other girl. If Jagya could shout at her mother for her inability to stop Ganga from going out during night, he could as well shout (better without shouting but with firm stand) and say that he is not ready for marriage with Sanchi. He tormented his previous wife with his alliance with some other girl, now he is again on the same path, it is just that so far there is no love interest from his side (however a lot of emotions are still there) and instead of the other woman, his would be wife is the bad girl.

So we can always find tons of reasons to understand why anandhi must have done something wrong. eventhough none of these reasons are never said or showed in the show.

so now jagiyya has to follow a protocol and get saanchis sanction for everything. saanchi can I go to hospital now or can I go check on patient in room number 7, I am asking you because she is a woman and I need your permission...

everyone knew jaggiyya is developing feelings for Ganga including saanchi herself and forced this guy with emotional blackmail and still he is at wrong.

Does shiv or anandhi or rest of couple seek each others permission before taking every single step?

So jaggiyya informing his family about his out of town visit is not enough. at this point, he is confused with his feelings for ganga and he is just doing it out of his responsibiliTy. so this point is very hard to understand
